Finally invested in better lights for this grow! I got a couple of clones flowering right now under my full spectrum reflector LEDs but didn't bother creating a diary for it since they were a few weeks into veg when I got them.
Settled for a DIY COB with 6 CREE CXB3590 running 50W each @ 1.4A, passive heatsinks, and semi custom rails. Though about a quantum board but settled for the COB.
Started germinating a few seeds from MSNl. Durban Poison and Pure Power Plant was my choice this time. Durban Poison is feminized but the Pure power Plant is regular. I have separate diaries for each strain to follow.
Soaked the seeds overnight and sowed into soil. Driver for the COBs has a dimmer. During the seedling stage, this will be at its lowest setting.
Day 6 - 3 out of the 6 seeds sprouted. Kinda disappointed on the germination rate but it is what is it. Another thing to keep in mind these are regular seeds, hoping to get 1 female. Lighting is is about 16 away from the canopy at its lowest setting. I will gradually increase intensity as we get good growth.
Good growth on 3 babies, 1 is a late bloomer. Giving them distilled water and maintaining ideal temp and RH. The new COBs are keeping the room around 70°F even at night. Also hooked up the exhaust fan on the timer to keep the heat during the night. Low dose of nutrients will be introduced next week.
Transferred these Pure Power Plants to fabric pots and started giving them Real Growers Recharge. Lights will be increased from 50% to 100% this coming week
It's pretty disappointing that the germination rate of these seeds is 50% (it's not me! I germinated Durban Poison at the same time at 100% success). Only got 2 strong ones out of the 3 survivors. I'll be happy with 1 female since I won't have space in the flower room for more.
3 Pure Power Plants showing growth after being transferred. Still got to take cuttings from them to test for sex. One of them is growing with 3 sets of leaves/bud sites (is there a proper term for this?). If this one is a female I might have to use mainline technique. It'll be pretty cool to grow.
Started giving them Fax Farms Big Bloom along with the Recharge.
Don't you wish you have more space to grow? Well I do. I don't really have space for these Pure power plants once I flower my Durban Poison. Hopefully by that time the Pineapple Express are done. Keeping fingers crossed that I timed it right.
This week, I took clones to test for sex. Just waiting on them to root and will be in the flower room soon. By day 34 2 of the 3 are showing pre flowers sown in the last two pictures. What do you think?
I got lucky and the last one of the batch turned out to be female. Due to grow room limitation and timing, I switched over to 12 hour light schedule. High stress training to keep her low. This grow will be for breeding and just playing around with training and nutrient ratios. I have a female Durban Poison that I would like to get feminized pollen from to cross with the female Pure Power Plant that I have. If I'm not successful with the feminized pollen then I can always use the male PPP that I have.
At Day 40 I gave them 24 hours dark period before getting them on the 12/12 schedule. It's just something I've read about and I'm buying into the theory of it. lol
Ended up donating the last female to a fellow grower. This diary will now be about breeding Durban Poison X Pure Power Plant.
Once I harvest the Pineapple Express, I will have a breeding room. Enjoy the pics of the Pineapple Express. Pineapple Express diary cover = Click Bait! 😂
Doing some training on both male and female plants to keep their height in control. I have two males to choose from but I don't really know what to look for. It'll will be based on overall health and growth I guess.
The couple is doing just fine under the Viparspectra 450. Eventually, this will be replaced with a quantum board once they're are readily available. The male Pure Power Plant has already dropped some pollen at day 24.
This week I collected more pollen from the male Pure Power Plant and stored it. The actual plant was cut down to minimize the risk of pollenating my other ladies in the other room. Female Durban poison looks like she stopped growing and focused on the seed development. I should of waited for the buds to fatten up before pollenating. Oh well, there's always next time.
Seeds are developing real well. As you can see they are almost bursting out of the Calyx. I think I'll be deleting this diary once the seeds drop or maybe just leave it open so it won't affect my stats.
Just giving some time to let the seeds mature. They're getting the same water as my Durban Poison which is ph'd water with mammoth P since they're all flushing at this time.
Female Durban Poison was pollinated by Male Pure Power Plant around week 3 of flower. You can tell that the Durban Poison focused on making seeds instead of fattening up buds. Nigh and day difference compared to my non pollinated Durban Poison.
I got a decent amount of mature seeds (9 grams) that I will run again. Pheno hunting will begin and stabilize the strain. Might even try to get some purple in there for bag appeal. So much more work to put in but definitely worth it to make a new generation strain in the end.
@GardenOfHerbs, #2 looks like a male to me, #1 I'm not too sure though but leaning towards male. It's too bad but I got some Durban poison growing that I can probably cross it with 😕
@Short_N_stockY, Heck yeah! Well it looks really good and you can tell your plants are loving it too! Im eventually going to spend money on upgrades to system, but alas, I am not as good with financials as I am loving my Ladies lol 😉
@diamondtrichomes, @underfunded, Thanks! I just picked up "The Cannabis Breeder's Bible" by Greg Green. I'm a few chapters in but has great information and easy to read. I suggest picking up a copy if you want to learn a little bit more than just crossing strains and getting F1 seeds.
Your grow is looking killer. Stocky and healthy. I just ordered some recharge and would be interested to here how you have incorporated this product into your feeding regimen. Thanks in advance. - Zannabis7
@Short_N_stockY, This is good to know. Thanks for sharing your insights. I will certainly look into your other grow. Best wishes on the remainder of your grows - Zannabis7
@Zannabis7, I just started using recharge this cycle. So far, i've seen explosive growth after each use during veg. I alternate nutrients and microbes during watering. Ended up cutting back on the Fox Farms Trio due to nute burn. Check out my other diary to see the Real Growers Recharge result.
@diamondtrichomes, it would be nice to get it lab tested and see the numbers. Maybe someday I can stabilize the strain for high THCV. I just followed you on IG, keep in touch 👌
@DabCrab, I never liked the idea of chopping down males. It’s my first cross and deffinately wont be my last. Just picked up a book on breeding and hoping to someday stabilize a solid strain.
