Welcome to a new grow journal. This time I’m focusing on Sativa heavy strains, so I’ll need to manage their height and longer flowering period. I’ve never grown a Sativa, so that’s new. I will also be experimenting with hydro by growing a couple of plants in coco coir and the other plants in soil.
Wednesday: I’m soaking seeds in RO water for 18 hours. Keeping them in the humidity dome at 78 degrees.
Thursday: Transferred seeds to jiffy pellets with RO water. Holding at 78 degrees.
Friday: No sprouts yet. Holding at 78 degrees
Saturday: i can see activity in 4 of the 6 the jiffy pellets holes
Sunday: Four sprouts above soil. No other activity visible. Moved jiffy pellets with sprouts into solo cups with coco.
Monday: starting to doubt whether the other two seeds will sprout. Raised sprouts by 3 inches to increase lux to 20-22k. They were stretching too much.
Tuesday: Planted another Black Jack seed in a jiffy pellet. Two seeds still unsprouted.

We FINALLY have 6 seedlings from seed along with one experimental monstercropping of OG Kush. The seedling stems were growing too weak, so I dismantled the humidity dome. I need to get a small fan for the humidity dome to strengthen stems. For now, I’m misting with RO water, seaweed extract and CalMag. The seaweed extract is staining the leaves brown.
I Started foliar spraying seedlings multiple times per day with seaweed extract and CalMag.
Seedling leaves are twisting on me. I don’t know if my nutrient feed was too much, or if I should have rinsed my coco again. I initially fed too high of a ppm.
Sunday....stems are too long and lanky. Can’t withstand a fan or even being misted without bending over.
Replanted in one gallon containers and buried long stems. Placed oscillating fan on them too. Much better!
Tuesday. Fed with Recharge soil conditioner.
These girls are growing faster than soil in the coco. Raspberry Cough is the largest of the seedlings. One more week under the fluorescent lights and then we will move under the LEDs in the tent. Once we get to 5 nodes, I plan to top them above the 2nd true node. This topping technique (Uncle Bens topping technique) results in four main colas.
Continuing to foliar feed with seaweed extract.
Monday. Transplanted the largest plant (Raspberry cough) to a 5 gallon and moved into the grow tent. Still less root development than I expected, so I’m leaving the rest of the seedlings in one gallon containers. I just topped them above the 2nd true node, which will give me 4 main colas.
Moved the plants from the fluorescents to the LEDs. Currently under 25-35,000 lux worth of light. Feeding daily. 720 ppm feed. 5.8 ph. Uncle Bens topping technique on the 4 more mature plants worked great again. Expect 4 main colas per plant.
Planning to flip to flower at 18 inches high.
The seaweed extract is being used in a foliar spray exclusively.

Sunday. Topped the Black Jack above the 2nd true node. A little young for topping, so I’m curious how quickly she will respond.
Monday. Used LST on the Raspberry Cough....my fastest growing plant. She responded well to the topping for 4 main colas. Now I will LST those 4 main colas.
Friday. Used Super Cropping on the small Afghan Kush plant.
Plants are growing very fast in coco coir. They’ve been topped above the 2nd node in order to get 4 main colas. This week I will clean up the lower portion of the canopy to allow more airflow.
The Raspberry Cough and Jock Horror are the fastest growers so far. I used LST to slow them down a little. Cleaned up the leaves around the lower canopy to improve airflow over the coco.
Week 3 of flower. Surprisingly, the Afghan Kush is the tallest of the bunch. Sorry that the commentary is boring....I’m just using this site to remember what week I’m in.
All 6 plants are doing well, but I still regret growing so many. Ideally, I find four plants much easier to manage.
So far, I have found that I like growing in coco better than soil. Keep the ph at 5.8 and don’t over feed.
The Sour Diesel hit me with a calcium shortage by showing brown spots on her new leaves. Upped CalMag to 5ml per gallon.
That’s all I have for now. I’m just using the app to track weeks.
Plants are starting to burn at the tips......tells me that I need to water more frequently. The last feeding was at 775ppm in.....1275ppm out!! Feeding twice a day will help prevent the high ppm water at the roots which is causing burn.
I’m feeding at 50 percent of the GH Trio feeding schedule and have been all grow.
Wow....the aroma has really come out this week. I’m two weeks away from harvesting the Jock Horror and Afghan Kush based on the look of their buds. The others will take 4-6 more weeks I suspect.
Sorry for the lack of documentation...I primarily use this to keep track of weeks. The aroma is getting stronger by the day. One plant I suspect is one week away from harvest, another is 2-3 weeks away, and the rest are still a guess at this point of 5 weeks. I like the staggered harvest....quite different than growing all the same strain at once.
One plant is still looking a little rough.....calcium deficiency early in the grow.
Entering week 9 of flower. Overall very pleased with the transition from soil to coco. I truly love working with coco over soil EXCEPT for the excess amount of watering required. I do over 20 percent runoff with each feeding. So I’m giving the plants 6 gallons of water and I find that I’m suctioning out about 2 gallons of water per feeding. That also means I’m spending more on nutes I suspect.
Plants are loving the General Hydroponics trio....easy to use and relatively cheap. I’m only feeding once per day hence the brown burned tips. I should be feeding twice per day now I suspect.
Most of these are 9-12 week strains, so I have a while to go.
Week 10 since the flip. I anticipate that the Afghan Kush and Jock Horror will be harvested within the next 10 days. That will give me more room in the tent to photograph the others better.
Another great week with coco coir. I love this stuff and the plants seem to also. GH trio fertilizers are working great too. Using 50 percent of their recommended dosages.
This has been an interesting grow as I try to dial in my environment. I just realized that I need a dehumidifier for this time of year. Flowering tent is at 65 percent humidity and I need to bring that down. A new dehumidifier is on order and due next week.
I also have concluded that I’m very impressed with these Timber cob LEDs. They really do the job well!
As of Wednesday, I don’t anticipate harvesting any this week.
Starting week 11 since flip and this week I expect to harvest the Afghan Kush x Black Domina strain. It’s a 50-55 day flowering plant and I’m sitting at day 70 since flip. Trichomes are mostly milky with the occasional amber.
Jock Horror will also likely get harvested this week. She looks ready, but I need to check her trichomes closely.
Blackjack is an 8-10 week strain. I think I have another 2 weeks with that one.
Once I harvest these, I will provide more photos of the raspberrry cough, sour diesel and Tangie. They are in the back of the tent and difficult to reach. The Blackjack is foxtailing on me. It’s not heat....but perhaps the light is too close.
UPDATED on Jock Horror. Harvest window is open....going to sit on it for a week or so and wait for more amber
The sour diesel displayed a calcium deficiency early in the grow and never quite recovered. She wasn’t pretty to harvest, but she’s sticky with beautiful buds. I harvested the tips and plan to harvest the rest soon.
Harvest is progressing. So far I harvested the Afghan kush x Black Domina and the tops off the sour diesel. The rest are still waiting for more amber trichomes.
Thirteen weeks since flip. I expected these sativa dominant strains to take longer. Two plants harvested, four to go. Still seeing clear trichomes on these, so I plan to wait until next week. Much better airflow with the two plants gone.
