Fine Nutrients, although I probably could have done without the "Grow"for the entire cycle. The packaging absolutely sucks though, bottles look nice but the seal never really closes. I'll be trying something new when these run out.

I seriously stunted the plant, and that meant she was too far away from the lights, but she really threw off a bunch of bud sites!

Grow Questions

Jay_Gardenerstarted grow question 5 years ago
Looking for experienced high pressure aeroponics (HPA) growers to input on nutrient levels. This strain seems to be pretty sensitive to nitrogen, and higher ppm levels in general. What are the best nutrients and levels to ensure good bud growth? How do the plants and roots look?

I am not using high pressure Aeroponics but I am using high flow rate Hydroponics with lots of air and water. I notice I have to do almost everything differently then what a lot of others are doing.. I have to feed very light amounts as if I use recommended on bottle amounts it just throws everything for a Loop ha ha. But yes my observations are like 1/4 recommended feedings and I don't even bother with EC.. I just stabilize PH, Change reservoir weekly and use a schedule... I'm thinking by continuous feeding we may hurt and hinder ladies and there is also a very popular thread on Icmag where a guy uses R/O water has good values at reservoir times. But he purposely lets the ph go all out of whack, he swears by it. We are the frontiers brother... Not a lot of understanding or research has gone into growing Cannabis and even less has gone into growing Hydroponic Cannabis. So really opinions and ideas are gonna change and it'll be a while before we have anything really concrete.. And the system to system variable coupled with water source is huge so it's hard to pin down something that is going to work for everyone.

Is this just "Fade" or am I missing something? Also, Upon zooming in I am starting to catch glimpses Amber, am I getting close? The more mature colas are starting to show yellow /browny purple on the leaves, younger ones are still nice a dark green. Any help is appreciated!😏

Nope you are not missing anything.. Your seeing what would be described as micro deficiencies in the leaves.. But do not be alarmed this is actually a good sign. It means she's clean and a lot of the "excess" you see in a lot of other grows are not present in yours. Depending on the Configuration of your 50watts cobs.. You would have pulled a lot more weight by having them closer... Like 12"-14" or something around that.

Great diary! I do believe in self learning without any major learning process beside internet reading! I wish you a great grow!! I just didn't understood a thing, what is the role of the solenoid? It will close the water passage and keep the line pressurized? The water that you spray is going to where? I would love to see more pictures of the grow! Have a Shroom !1!!11!!!111 🙌

@Psilocubensis, trying my best to minimize waste, hopefully there wont be much runoff. it might get used to feed the photos.

@Jay_Gardener, Such a perfectionism, nice! I mean, at the totes, after the water irrigate the roots and go to the bottom, to where it goes? It's clean water with nutes, will you use it again? "Waste" is a term that seem so wrong nowadays...

@Psilocubensis, Thanks for checking out my grow. The Solenoid is normally closed, when the pump turn on, it opens, and when the pump turns off it closes. There will still be a slight delay in hitting full pressure for the misting (90psi), but once the pump cycles off the solenoid shuts and only the pressure between the solenoid and nozzle will have to drain. This has reduced low pressure/dripping from about 5-7 seconds to 1-2 seconds. The Water is misted into the 64L tote where the two plants will have their roots supported in net cups. the fine mist should deliver nutrients effectively and allow for maximum oxygen.

MadeInGermany has a love affair with EC.. I don't care about it at all unless I see problems and I avoid going "thick" or high EC. I'd love to pick your brain a little and get an idea of your system. My rigs are all hand made so I'm 4 mist outlets and timer away from an Aeroponic system and gonna follow along and she how she grows for you.

@Jay_Gardener,I started with Diy that had 3-4 different plants in them and it's almost impossible to balance them all. That's why you see five gallon buckets in big tent now. Seemed to be the easiest/cheapest way to make em all self contained. Just cheap aquarium water pumps to recirculate and a heavy duty air pump running 24 hours. Then I started to add supplements from Advanced Nutrients and let me tell you dude do not use their supplements it's terrible how are you suppose to balance feed with all the stuff they pump into it... Anyway I'm learning every day as well, there is a lot of information out there and many different approaches. Hoping it all turns out great for you.

@DeadwebsiteBoringcommunity, Mine is all home made too. Trying to piece together information from a lot of different sources. The Super Cali Haze has seemed to be pretty sensitive to nutrients (particularly nitrogen) which sin't ideal seeing as she's sharing a tote with two younger, and hungrier AK47 x Critical Mass autos... makes threading the needle difficult. That said, I feel like I'm starting to learn more every day.

Week 1 looks great! Curious about a couple things: What nozzles are those? How is that pH Perfect working? Is it completely dissolved and smooth? Looking at trying diff nutrients next grow. In my aero, I decided to recirculate halfway through my first grow. I felt I was wasting a lot of my reservoir because the the small roots of newly veg'ing plants did not catch and absorb much. I reasoned that the runoff was largely untouched nutrient solution and started to recirculate in early veg. In later veg to flower, my root systems were much larger, and I had very little runoff.. I decided to just recirculate that and re-purposed the container for dehumidifier runoff. This is my experience and decisions, just sharing with you. Always excited to see more aeroponics!

@Jay_Gardener, Ah, thanks for getting back at all. Those are the same brand nozzles I have, FYI they work better than the Drip Depot variety (a little large on the droplet size). Good to know about the pH perfect, the pH drift has been my biggest issue with GHE Flora series. As for the run-off, I have very little of it once good size roots are established. I made the opposite decision though, running a ~15 gal reservoir I figured it wouldn't impact it much to recirculate the small amount. I use my waste reservoir to collect dehumidifier water now, it reads <20 PPM so I use it for topping off and building nutes. Agreed on the adjustment game, just wish I could make adjustments on the fly. The Arduino has to be physically connected to my desktop to change timing-- it's a mild inconvenience.

@ThatsMyPurse, Hey there, sorry I didn't see this before. I'm running TEFEN nozzles. They seem to be working for me now. I had lots of struggles figuring out the nutrient mix and cycle timing, but finally seem to have gotten it figured out. The pH perfect seems to work nicely, there's very little drift once you get your target pH reached. I was actually recirculating early on, but had some issues with a combination of burning an deficiencies (weird, I know) which encouraged me to switch to DTW. I've done that and haven't looked back. plus now that I've got the timing pretty well dialed in there's actually very little run off. right now I'm getting about 1L every 36-48 hours. When it starts getting much lower than that I basically just reduce the off interval to make sure my girls have plenty to drink. It's certainly an interesting game!

Is your ec really at 0.5 all the time? 😳
Jay_Gardener
Jay_Gardenercommented5 years ago
@MadeInGermany, My EC levels have ranged from 0.5 to 0.9 depending on when in the grow you're talking. My PPM's have been a low of 200, and a high of 460. I know EC depends on how it's calculated, but i don't think that ppm does. So I kind of prefer to use that. What levels do you run?
