This Green Crack was my 3rd round of started seeds in my perpetual garden of auto's. I decided to get a little experimental and try topping and bending this girl at the beginning of the flowering stretch (about a week ago). So far she has not missed a beat, she just keeps stretching and growing. Starting to see the bud sites develop. One branch did take a little damage from the bending, but I put some blue painters tape on it and expect a full recovery.
Growing in organic composted 'super soil'. Have not added any additional nutrients yet. Looks great to me so far.
Setup:
24x48x72 grow tent
1 Viparspectra V300 300w LED fixture
1 Viparspectra R300 300w LED fixture
1 CFL 100w (26w actual)
4” exhaust fan w/carbon filter 190cfm
6” clip on fan
Electric oil filled radiator behind air intake
Still growing great! Starting to show sings of flowering and still growing strong after the topping and bending. Looking forward to watching this one as it does it’s thing
Green Crack really took off since the last update. She's the tallest plant in the tent! Topping and bending didn't seem to slow her down at all. Check out the multiple tops! 😃
Going strong. I think she's finally stopped stretching, which is good because the top is about 15" from the LED fixture now. Tons of bud sites, she should start packing on bud weight soon. Pictures are from Tuesday and Friday. Sorry some are a bit fuzzy.
On a side note... My perpetual harvest concept does seem to be working, I have plants in various stages all going strong. But I feel like I'm running into some over crowding with 5-6 plants. I'm going to try staggering new plants on a 3 week interval and see if that helps me get to 3-4 plants at a time.
Green Crack is still the tallest girl in the tent. She’s in early flower and the bud sites are looking great. I defoliate day her this week and she bushed back out again in a couple of days. Fed her lightly with some Espoma Organic Bloom. I guessing probably another month til harvest.
Fed Recharge for the first time this week, also fed Espoma Organic Bloom. Did some defoliation too. She seems happy and healthy overall, but I see what I believe is LED light burn on some of the sugar leaves on the upper most buds. I jacked up the LED light as high as I can without completely reorganizing all plants, lights, etc. Even completely reorganizing the tent, I'd only be able to gain 2-3 inches of height so not sure if its worth it. Now that I harvested the Blue Mammoth I have a little room to try some LST-style bending and try to get the plant farther away from the light that way. We'll see what happens during the week.
I think she's suffering from some light burn from my LED's, take a look at the pics of the top bud sites. I completely rearranged my tent and got the LED on her side up as far as it can go. I hope that helps. The buds themselves look completely fine but the sugar leaves are turning dark purple and yellow. This is only happening on the upper most bud sites. Any other feedback suggestions are welcome. Please comment away.🙏
I got some Fox Farms Organic Big Bloom this week and added it with Recharge in this weeks feeding. Looking forward to seeing the results.
Feb 5, 2018 update: Raised the LED light even more and removed most of the damaged leaves.
I did feed her with Recharge and Big Bloom last weekend, but since then I've been giving water only and gave a good flush watering on Thursday. I am planning on harvesting her in stages. I'm going to cut the top 2 nodes (the ones with the most LED burn) on Monday, then cut the rest of the plant next weekend. I'm curious to see how much the lower buds benefit from this.
Green Crack is the plant on the far right in the group shots.
Update: I started cutting her down today. Cut down the top 2 nodes and left the rest of the plant. Will let the rest grow one more week before taking her down completely. So far 6.5 oz wet weight. That alone should be over an oz dried! 👍
New pics added too
I cut down the 2nd half of my Green Crack plant today. Did a wet trim this time. Will post the harvest report after she's dried and cured. So far the buds seem loose and airy overall. Probably stressed her out a little too much with the topping, HST and then the LED burn. I'm still pretty happy with the results so far 😃
Root sone looks more developed than the last harvest (Blue Mammoth). I guess Recharge is working 👍
First of all I give Fast Buds a 10 on the strain and give myself a 6 for my mistakes during the grow. I put her through topping, HST, defoliation, light burn, and broke a few branches accidentally just before harvest. She still pulled through and made it to harvest (thanks to great genetics from Fast Buds), but the results were loose and airy buds with burn on the main colas. However, she still gets me high as hell! 👍
She was over 3.5 ounces dried, but that included the small popcorn stuff that will probably be going into the hash bin. So I lowered the weight on the results to 3 oz.
Started using Recharge with her about halfway through flower, she seemed to like that. Also fed her Big Bloom organic.
Overall the grow was a great experience, I learned a lot (from my mistakes). My conclusion after trying to do more aggressive training with autos is that even though you can do all of these things to auto flowering plants, it does slow them down in growth. In the future I'll be doing a lot less training with my autos and using LST instead of HST, FIM pinching instead of topping, and less defoliation.
As always the GrowDiaries community was great! I love you guys! 👍 Keep spreading the positive vibes!
@zannabis7, @ripper, @tryhard, @fraqs, Hi buds! Looking of some feedback on this Green Crack please. I think the discoloration of the leaves with the top bud sites is light burn from my LED’s and made adjustments to get the LED higher earlier today. But please let me know if you think there’s could be something else going on. Thanks!
@Ripper, Measured again today and I do have 24” clearance now. Only 4” above for ventilation, but I thinks that’s fine. Added a new pic that shows the light placement and clearances
@420johnny, as company we don't advise any particular technique to be applied to the plants.
Although we have seen over the years the work of many growers ( see Tripaholic or Green75 for example ) and topping and LST work just perfectly on all of our genetics.
We think that a correct grow always gives the best yield, whatever the technique.
@Fast_Buds, Thanks again! I’m open to any tips, tricks or advice. By the way what do you think about topping and bending here? So far it does not look like she has missed a beat to me. Do you think I’ll yeild better or worse in the end?
Hi my friend. Your plants are looking great. I have a problem and I need comments from friends with experiences.
I'm feeling that my buds are so small, maybe they're not but I think like that. The feathers have started to turn into.brown and I think the harvest time will come after 15 days.
Will the buds continue growing up at that time? For the last, can you say anything abou the harvest time? I have added a video to my diary today.
Best regards. 🤗🙏
Defoliated today and took off a bunch of yellowed leaves. I checked all Buds carefully and definitely no signs of bud rot at all. The buds are nice and green with mostly white hairs, some orange hairs too. The buds still look like they have time to go and the trichomes look more clear/cloudy, than cloudy/milky to me (no amber).
However, I kind of feel like the yellowing is related to the plant being near the end of its life cycle. It will be 3 months old soon. The buds still seem to have development to come so I won’t start flushing now. But, I’m going to stop feeding any Bloom food and just give her water and Recharge in case I need to flush and harvest quickly.
Getting what I think is some light burn from my LED's. Reorganized the entire tent and got the LED on her side as high in the tent as possible. Hope it helps, looks like she still has a few weeks to go. New pics coming soon.
