Hey guys! Started my first indoor grow with seeds from ILGM. I'm hoping this will be a smooth run but already see myself micromanaging a bit. I would love some advice from you experienced growers! Wanted to do my first run all of one strain but made the rookie mistake of putting more down after the first beans didnt pop as fast as I wanted. Here's the timeline and where I am today:
Day 1: Planted 3 Gold Leaf seeds in rapid rooters in mondi dome with heating pad around 75-80F. raymatix on lowest dim setting and about 15 inches away from seeds. Wateres with solution of 5ml Clonex and some Mykos in the bottle.
Day 2: After seeing the first seed struggle to unfold after being buried so deep I was worried and planted tow more seeds. One Blue Dream and one MK Ultra.
Day 3-7: Gold Leaf #1 curled up a bit after experimenting with the lights. I was worried they were too strong and too close so I brought in the mini T5 LED light from sunblaster. I realized much slower growth so decided to go back to having the Raymatix on but raised up. Gold leaf #1 is about 3in tall today and shows a little curling but not much. Not sure how well shes doing but seems strong. I got a surpise and one of the original gold leaf bean sprouted but wont make it most likely.
I've already added a wrinkle of difficulty to this with different strains but the lights have been giving me the most concern. Thanks in advance for any advice!!
There was some ups and downs this week. Unfortunately more downs I believe but below is the detailed overview.
During week two of the rapid rooter growth the roots seemed to be getting stronger all around. However, my strongest girl started showing signs of damage. Yellow/crisping end, wilting/pruny texture. I also noticed some of the other seedling leaves yellowing from the center out and the leaves losing their smooth surface and edges.
Light: 18-24"
RH:40%
Water: Spring water
I know I made some mistakes and have adjusted the following after getting advice (thanks guys). RH is now +60%. I ditched the idea of one month in the rapid rooted and repotted them all into 1-1.5 gallons pots (all stores had at time) with Happy Frog soil. However, I made one more rookie mistake. I decided to feed them a Jacks 321 formula at full strength. During the transfer I sprinkled Mykos to cover before burying. I then sprayed top soil around stem about 10-15 time with squirt bottle full of the feed. The PPM of my tap is 170 and PH is nearly 8. After mixing a one gal solution of feed (couldnt do less without proper scale yet) PPM came to 1000 and PH at 6.5. They were repotted on Friday and I havent given any water since. I plant to water tomorrow with around 20 oz my my tap water or so.
Im pretty conflicted on what to think of my plants. My once strongest plant now seems to be the weakest (all of the damage came before the feed) and they all seem to have some sort of problem. Any advice will help as I hope to take this girls to the finish line my first go around! Thank you!
This wee was relatively uneventful in the garden. Got some beautiful new growth with some questionable formation on the older lower leaves. Some of the leaves seem to be deformed or not filling out quite properly. I believe I need to tone down the watering a bit. I used a full drinking water bottle the first time and got each pot very wet. It took about 5 days to dry out about a inch down. I decided to water with 3/4 the amount this time around.
I noticed some fungus nats hanging around due to the standing water in the trays under the pots. I have yet to have my first full day of not looking in on the girls haha. I am also needing to refill the humidifier daily. The stocks still seem very thin compared to all the other people I keep reading about in their diaries.
The girls seemed to have taken the initial mistaken feeding pretty well but please anyone please chime in if you see anything I can be improving on.
Should I continue with my first grow or did I stunt these girl too badly? My plants are now 21-28 days from seed and seem very underdeveloped.
So, I would like to get your opinion on if I should try and start new seeds or try and take these girls to the finish line. I'll start with an update of how the week went and then Ill list out all the mistakes Ive made since Day 1 (and probably continue to make) to get your opinion on what could've stunted these girls (or are they?)
Planted Apr 5
Week 4:
Water - one time with 160 PPM and 6.5 PH (using PH down) used 3/4 a water bottle on the 2 gals and 1/2 water bottle on the 1.2 gal
Light - 18-20 inches at 100-120w
RH - 60-70
If you havent read the past weeks I can briefly catch you up:
-Sprouted 4/8-4/13
-Kept in rapid rooter for 2 weeks watering with clonex and spring water (water bottle)
-Moved in 1.25-2 gal pots with happy frog fox farms
-At first transplant I fed them at full strength using Jacks 321 (1000PPM including 170PPM tap and 6.5 PH) I used a spray bottle and squirted the bast of each plant with about 15 sprays. No other watering upon transplant was give
-3 days after transplant watered with tap water at 160PPM and PH'd down to 6.3 ish; watered to run off - noticed fruit flys in the tent
-Took 5 days from initial water to dry out and watered less next time
-Week 4 (April 28th to be exact) I noticed I still had the light on full dim around 20w or so; immediately turned it up to 100w and raised from 18" to 20"
Issues with plants/environment:
-Leaf tips curling and becoming serrated
-One or two tips yellowing
-Very slow growth
-Fungus nat/fruit fly
-Overwatering (taking 5 days to dry out)
Current plant height and age:
Gold Leaf #1: 28 days - 7"
Gold Leaf #2: 21 days - 4"
Gold Leaf #3: 21 days - 4"
MK Ultra: 21 days - 4"
Blue Dream: 21 days - 4"
Can anyone give advice to if this grow is worth continuing given the growth rate? Am I just too anxious and my expectations of plant growth are wrong? Every other grow I seed at my same stage (21-28 days from seed) are thicker stemmed and many more leaves.
Thanks!!
I could really start to see the growth with the girls this week all around. They still seem very short to me and not what I expected at this point in veg. I plan to do another 3 weeks or so of veg and then flip to flower. Is that too long? The girls are also really starting to smell. The Blue Dream has some serious funk to her and the other has a minty rub to them. Overall I raised my light up because I noticed some weird leaf growth and characteristics on the MKU. I also want them to stretch more because as I mentioned they seem too short to me.
Looking forward to seeing these girls continue to grow! Any advice from seasoned growers is always appreciated!
Wrapping up week 6 (which is really more like week 5 after doing the math on when they all actually popped. This week was pretty smooth for the girls. I think Im starting to notice two signs of stunted damage I've done to them: 1) over-watering (some purple stems on fan leaves - wilting and clawing fan leaves) and 2) Light damage: lights too close caused them to stunt and no longer stretch.
So far theyve been slowing increasing their water uptake. The water I used to give them lasts about 1.5 days so Im upping that. I also gave them on feed at 500PPM of the jacks 321 at 6.3-.5 PH. My last update for this week was I finally got my carbon filter up as well as the flower light I decided to give them the flower light for the last week of veg to get them used to the spectrum. My thinking was also that they may start stretching again on this last with with the added spectrum of the new flower light.
Do these girls look ready to go into flower at then end of this week? At this point I feel I have no choice I cant wait it out think they will grow more. Looking forward to learning more as I continue with my first grow!!
Wrapping up my last week of veg! The girls are definitely drinking a lot more and consistently. I fed them the Jacks 321 two part at a 1000 PPM level and 6.5 PH. The rest was all watered with tap water at 160 PPM and 6.5 PH and watered to run off, about every two days. Ive started to notice some weird growth and discoloration on the leaves. Im doing more research but Im thinking it may be a pest problem as I see fungus gnats in my tent.
Today will be my first day in 12/12 flower! excited to watch them stretch and grow as they blossom. Got the new flower light set up and man this thing is BRIGHT.
