Wrapping up my last week of veg! The girls are definitely drinking a lot more and consistently. I fed them the Jacks 321 two part at a 1000 PPM level and 6.5 PH. The rest was all watered with tap water at 160 PPM and 6.5 PH and watered to run off, about every two days. Ive started to notice some weird growth and discoloration on the leaves. Im doing more research but Im thinking it may be a pest problem as I see fungus gnats in my tent.
Today will be my first day in 12/12 flower! excited to watch them stretch and grow as they blossom. Got the new flower light set up and man this thing is BRIGHT.
@wreckbeast,
yeah. slight, slight breeze will strengthen the stems but as far as a squat stature goes you'll have to turn up the dimmer (or lower) the light more.
@kaneownz,
you will get some stretch once in a while in seedlings. just like you said, bury it if you need too.
after about ten days or so you should see some roots (which you are starting too).
go ahead and transplant.
Hey mate,, I think less is more in these early stages and it is easy to overdo it. Definitely too early for full strength feeds,, but they are well established for seedlings and will be fine. Get through a couple more weeks before ramping up feeds. 🍻
@kaneownz, too easy Kane,, it’s a great hobby and you always shower them with attention in the early stages. This site is the perfect learning platform. Growers are friendly and usually happy to pass on advice. Some guys that really got me going and are still helping me all the time are @Mrs_Larimar , @Grey_Wolf and @Med _in_Tropic . Their experience is key to success and their diaries are very well detailed. 🍻
@Shooey, thank you so much for the advice! Youre very right.. way too early for the feed. I got eager as a first timer and def over did it. They seem to be fine now but Im struggling with not over-watering i know theres a fine line between dry out period. Im still working towards my first full day of not looking at the girls lol
Good luck on your first run!
And yes she stretched a bit but don’t worry, put the lights a bit closer and she will stop stretching and when you put her in a pot put her e bit deeper
And @ this stage a t5 with 6400k spectrum works very good only you need to put lights very close max height is about 12” if I’m not mistaken..further away and you lose a lot of power
And I don’t think you can hold her for a month an a tiny root cube, give her some space to develop a nice root system
I transplant from the moment I see the taproot so it can grow straight down in the pot
Peace and good luck
Definitely gone follow this grow
@kaneownz,
Those seedlings won't survive at 40% rh, you gotta jack that up real quick. Grab an ultrasonic-type humidifer from any store. To control it, pickup an inkbird IHC -200 (you can also use this to control a dehumidifier for flower, but if youre humidity is always 40% thats not necessary). Set the humdifier it in your tent, and run the sensor for the humidifier in there as well. My Inkbird was way off on purchase, and I needed to calibrate it against my govee hygrometer. Now though, I just keep that humidifier full, and my rh stays within 2 points at all times.
You can also use a dome that you mist the inner walls of, but i think you're gonna need humidification for the later stages anyways.
@kaneownz,I did some research on your set up and plans because I’m not familiar with us growstuff :D
Your raymatix hamr is to far from your seedling ,in the product guide they recommend 18 inch
This is probably your stretch problem
Your leafs are curly and wavy because your rh is to low should be above 60 at minimum
And try a humidifier with the lights on..rh raises automatically with lights off so I can imagine your tent was soaked :D
Where do you keep your water bottle ? If direct light or sunlight can reach your water iron in the water starts to degrade or something like that,I don’t know the exact word 😅
Keep water stored away from light and sun.
I use 300 l tank in my basement
And jacks 321 looks like an awesome nutrient line for soil and coco so I don’t really know what to recommend.I'm curious about what you gonna choose and the outcome
And a 1gal should be fine for e few weeks of veg
And for the discoloring, don’t worry you don’t feed enough or something,a seedling has energy on it’s own to last a week.a transplant into your medium of choice waterd with a half dose of feeding should bring her right on track
@Belgiums_basement_budz, Thank you the advice already helped me out a lot. I know Im coming up on week 2 but figured I'd do a mini update in hopes on getting things back on track and if you arent able to follow my journal each week.
My girls are def experiencing some trauma. Here are some issues I see (have pics if you have the time or interest):
1) Stretch: all are 3-4" tall and none have had their center leave fully pop out yet
2) Yellowing: The veins of the plants seem to be yellowing. The leaves seem to be lightening up from the center. The oldest seedling is even crisping on one end.
3) Pruiny / Wavy leaves (think like really wet fingers or bubbly type texture): almost looks like drying but not sure what this is. Not on all leaves but on the oldest and its starting from the center
Environment:
Lights: Raymatix HAMR lowest dim and 24" away (more cool spectrum but not a blue tint)
RH: 40%
Temp: 70-75F
Water & Feed: Water with 3ml clones solution in water bottle (drinking spring water). Been keeping a dry out period in my opinion but subjective I know.
Light: 18 on
May be worth mentioning on the 4th night I tried a humidifier in the tent overnight and soaked the whole tent.
Corrective plan of action:
1) T5 LED 6400k 18' light at 6-12' away
2) Let roots get more dry time
Is there anything else I should be doing? At this point Im contemplating repotting into 1 gal and not wait 2 more weeks. I have Happy Frog soil or I can go with a coco coir mix I have. Planning to use Jacks 321 formula for the feed. If you arent able to get back to me now worries! Good notes for my next post lol
Hey bro don’t worry so much..it’s your first grow so you gonna make mistakes..in the past and the future, that’s the journey of growing 🤷♂️ But some advice is always handy eh 😁 you already spotted the fly’s and adjusted that so 👍🏻
If your pot takes 5 day’s to dry out it doesn’t mean you overwatered,if you overwatered her you will notice it when the leafs hang down and she really doesn’t look happy..my auto’s where planted directly in a 12l pot and I use 10% of the potsize at the start of the grow to feed or water them and in the beginning of the grow I can take up to 12 day’s in between waterings(depending on what light source you use..12 day’s was with led..hps or hotter fixtures dry out quicker and in full sun even more) and in full flower it can take up to 3l every day
Best thing is to lift your pots after watering so you get a feeling of a full pot and a dry one..the important thing is you get a good wet dry cycle going on,your roots benefit from the oxygen you provide this way
Your plants are smaller then others probably due to fact you kept them for 2 weeks in a rapid rooter, plant them once you see a root so it can start spreading and your ladies grow faster these first 2 weeks
If you lose 2 weeks growth in the beginning they’ll always look smaller compared to other plants of the same age.i would compare them plants a bit younger than yours and see if the growth looks similar (just don’t compare India’s with Sativa’s 😅)
But once more it’s your first grow, make mistakes and learn from them
And most important of all enjoy growing
😉
Happy growing and stay safe ✌️🌱
@kaneownz,no problem we all had that feeling on the first run I think..I sure did 😂 but I didn’t had other diary’s to compare back then so didn’t noticed my slow growth 😂 I just add 2 more weeks of veg and in the end both my plants yielded 200+g each
Feel free to contact me if you have more worry’s 😂
✌️
@Belgiums_basement_budz, Thank you for being a voice of reason! Thats a very good point... 2 weeks of not feeding in the soil def could be part of the comparison issue Im reacting too. Im enjoying the process so far but as you can tell Im anxious! Thank you again for the kind words and the helpful advice.
Don't worry about some questionable formation on the older lower leaves ( I usually remove them once she is growing well ). Seedlings sometimes do this, and outgrow their awkwardness like most teens do. It is important to watch the new growth.
@kaneownz, Look at my comments in week 1 of Aztech Alice Nicole diary, and check out how she came back around. It took some time, but look at her flowering now!
@DeaneR, this def makes me feel more confident now thank you. For some reason everyones plants look perfect on the internet lol well most on this site seem like great seedlings. This is my first grow so lots of questions and concerns. Thanks again for dropping by. Im def checking out your diaries for some notes!
Hey brother if you want you stem to get thicker drop your light closer to the plant . All that is happening is its growing upwards too quick . Happens all the time !😆 nice work !
@kaneownz, I don't think you need that par meter . Put you hand over the top of the canopy if it burns your hand It is too Close. If your lights are too close your leaves will start turning away from the light.
Are you using a C O B ?
@TeamQuality420, Thanks for the tip! Im honestly a bit hesitant messing with the light height and intensity on the dimmer. I think I mightve burned my girls a little in the first days lol.
Ive honestly been looking into investing in the Apogee Par meters but they cost as much as each of the lights I just bought. Big investment but would really help me understand my lights and dial in my environment. Maybe I can just turn my dimmer up a but instead of dropping closer to them (currently at the lowest setting).
At this stage mate I'd say your girls are just settling in so to speak overall they look ok just keep up the rh watch the watering n they will be sweet
@Seedtoweed, Thank you!! Im a bit worried some wouldnt/wont make it but Im being hopeful. If you say they have a chance then Im confident lol Thanks for taking a look!
KEEP GOING THEY LOOK GOOD AND ARE RIGHT WHERE THEY SHOULD BE NORMAL GROWTH!!!!
What are you expecting the plants to do at this age? they are right where they should be, I think you should do the flip to flower soon so you should have room for the roots. when you go to flower that is where you will see more growth.
the plants will stretch and fill in,
during flower is when everything happens!
Doing well Dude........its time for the medium in my opinion. As soon as I see a root come out it goes into the medium.........unless cutting clones then I have waited to see more roots popping out.
There is a learning curve with all this. There is a lot to learn about timing for nutes and lights at the different stages. A person really needs to go through this a couple of times to build your comfort level. In the end you will have some smoke to enjoy and it will make you smile because you grew it yourself and you know everything about what is in her😉😋 Your next run will be even better than this one and the after that will likely still better yields yet👍👊
Have a puff and enjoy the ride along the way👌..........Cheers fellow grower!!!!!
ok you will need to put some of your sprouts into bigger pots as the roots look good and are ready. so put them in bigger pots. remember to water about every 2-3 days. I go by weight of the pot when it is full of water/nutrients. another thing is when they start growing just leave them be as they will grow with out much effort. your job is to provide light/food/and air. the plants will take off. the best thing is to leave them be and your results of not doing much will surprise you .. good luck and happy growing.
remember there is nothing like growing your own
