Spent a good amount of time researching for my first grow. Getting the temperature and humidity right was a bit of a challenge, at it's worst I woke up 35% humidity and 85 degrees F. I did a few mistings through out the days to keep the ideal 60-70% humidity, and the temperatures usually ranged 79-83 F. Turning the dimmer screw down on the light down to 50%-25% seemed to be my golden ticket to keep things in the low 80's. Over all it seems like my efforts payed off. Always open to criticism and comments.
Transplanted from the dixie cup to the fabric pot around day 13, dusted the transplanted soil/root mass with mykos as well as the the middle level of soil is dusted. The next day the humidifier I ordered came in. This DRASTICALLY helped, as I was able to keep those temps down while having perfect humidity that didn't involve me using wet wash cloths. (raydrop Cool Mist Humidifiers for Babies on amazon) As well as a bluetooth temp/humidity tracker with a new thermometer. Because of these changes I can now run my light at 100% with out cooking the inside of the tent. I'm using fox farm ocean forest soil so I've been really reserved about feeding it anything as to not over do it, hence just using cal mag and ph balanced water for the initial soaking. I've done little to no watering as it's been holding water a little too well. I suspect this will changed when the root mass grows. Bent tips lead me to think there could be a nitrogen toxicity issue, I just have to do normal cal-mag watering as there already is a ton of nutes in the soil that could lead to a build up if I just kept feeding.
Started the week getting the TNB natural c02 bottle, looks like it's working pretty well, not like I can measure it though. I've been trying to get the environment to fall with in the VPD parameters I've been reading up on. On the 5th day after the initial repotting I noticed it wasn't draining so I removed the plant, and mixed more perlite in to the seemingly water logged FFOF soil. I threw some more mykos in because I broke a few roots getting it out and am under the impression it's one of those things you can't really have too much of. I also watered with a sprayer instead of pouring the food/water in to avoid the massive soil compaction I was seeing the first time. After two days I thought it would be a good idea to FIM the top as it was about 5/6 nodes up. It was little close but it seems to be working. I have a little brown spot on one of the leaves and the plant is still pretty stumpy, but outward growth seems great. Lights been cranking at 100% and temp/rh has been a steady 79F/65% in the tent. Last Day it recently climbed to 83F/68%, but this is still inline with the VPD charts and I have extra co2 so I should be just fine. I might hold off watering another day or two to try and get the roots to really max out. Very happy with my work so far. As always, love feed back, so let me know what you guys think.
Everything seems to be bumping along smoothly, besides it being a dense and hard to manage bush. I was using regular tap water for my humidifier and it was causing mineral dust to built up on the filter big time, replaced it with a new ipower 4" filter and I'm using distilled water for the humidifier now. It also seems like my c02 is running low or is done, so I put in an order for the refill packs. Temps are ranging from 78-84 F and RH is between 55-70% all keeping within a VPD chart(some what). Started LST around day 27, it's pretty awkward to do as it's really short and stumpy, but I took my time and tried to do it gradually. I fed her on day 24, day 26 and day 29 about 1/3 a gallon of calmag/bloom big. I see zero reason to add the other nutes as I have no clue how much of the FFOF soil's existing nutes it's used.
So to wrap up this week I do have some questions I'd love to see some feed back in the comments
-Are larger leaves touching the soil an issue?
-When do I trim fan leaves?
-When should I start adding the harder nutes?
-Is the LST being done efficently/correctly?
-How many more weeks in veg would you give it? (leaning towards 2)
As always thanks for taking a look and feel free to give me as much feed back as possible, this is my first grow, no matter how good it looks 😏
EDIT: the other cups are Chocolate Carolina Reapers/ Genghis Khan Brains, I might sneak a picture in here and there if you guys like those kinda things.
Nothing too crazy happened this week. I've done a little defoliation of the massive fan leaves as the LST was putting some leaves in the dirt. I bumped up the bloom big to full strength as well as the cal-mag. I've still been reluctant to use the FF Grow big as the soil should still have plenty of nutes available. Temps are averaging 80F and a range of 65-71% RH, I'm trying to walk down the humidity a little bit and I think in the next week or two I should be ready to switch to flowering. I've noticed some yellowing at the tips and it looks like light bleaching kinda, but not sure, I raised the light (that's still at full strength) about 2 inches to help it stretch out after LST, seems like it's getting there, but still stumpier then I'd like. If playing with the lights doesn't stop the yellowing I'll probably just water with plain PH'd water for a week and see what happens. As always feel free to comment and help a dude out.
Besides a few leaf spots here and there everything is going smoothly, 2 waterings this week, one with just PH'd and 3ml of cal-mag water, the other with the mentioned nutes, around a half gal each watering( first time I actually used my growbig). When I've been watering, I've been going off pot weight, so no set schedule. Doing half strength compared to what fox farm suggested because of the soil still holding nutes. Going to bump it up to normal strength the coming week. I turned the light intensity down for a few days to 70%ish. I thought this might help with some stretch and the discolored tips. I went ahead and did some major defoliation this time around compared to last time as well with the goal of narrowing down my bud sites/colas. I also ended up just snipping off the FIM'd tip as it was very scrawny and funky looking.
So far I'm very happy with this strain(I have nothing to compare it to lol), but I know it's time to switch to flowering in a week, two tops. Just going to keep taking my time with her and making sure we have a happy plant, not a rushed one. As always I'd love to hear from the community on what you guys think. Thank you and God Bless
Works picking back up if you can't tell by the much fewer pictures. This week we did 2 regular PH'd waterings and one in between with nutes. Also hit it with another defoliation and removed some of the shittier bud sites. It's preflowering fairly strong now, so I guess it's her way of saying she's ready, tomorrow we'll flip the lights and start with flowering mix outlined in the FF schedule (albeit, reduced strength to start with).
Everything is growing well still, starting to see a little flower development. Decided to go a little lighter then recommended on the nutes based on what I've seen with the leaves. Regular PH'd water between each feedings. Refilled the TNB naturals c02 canister mid week, did a nice clean up removing some fan leaves and minor bud sites as well, I also adjusted my LST wires. I bumped up the exhaust fan to help lower the temp and humidity as well. Staying around 75-78F and 52-65% RH.
A little warmer than I'd like this week with it sitting around the low 80's, humidity has been in the low 50's. Besides the temps going up a bit the leaves are looking healthier. Gave her an aggressive trim to remove some light blocked bud side colas and 2 alternating waterings and 2 feedings. I've been watering solely based on weight of the pot and look of the leaves as well. Haven't touched my LST wires all week, I'll probably remove them soon. Very happy so far, it looks great and putting out a nice little stink
Super busy week so the temps spiked a little on the higher side again with it being around 85 at its peak. I finally ditched the TNB can for a exhale c02 bag. As usual 4 waterings, 2 just water(with cal-mag) 2 with nutes. Had some moments where the humidity got in the low 30's as well. Seems like it doesn't care too much, a rusty brown spot here and there, but overall looks fantastic. Took off all the wire ties from the LST as well. Did a some trimming right before posting as well.
Personal life has had me pretty busy lately so I've let it slip once and a while and got some pretty rough temperature spikes, it was 90 under the lights for a few hours on it's worst day because the humidifier ran dry. Humidity has been all over the place. 30's to 60's in RH. Same watering pattern, only 2 (no calmag in the water either) no nute, and 1 nute this week so far. Looks like it's bulking okay so far and it starting to smell amazing citrus, sweet, and pine. Towards the end of this week I did a fan leaf trim so the lower growth could get a little more light.
Side plot: The peppers are starting to form blossoms
I've been pretty hands off this week, I've only done 3 waterings so far. I've noticed some brown spots and I think it's possible it needs a flush before the last week or two of feeding and the final pre harvest flush. Temps are still sitting a little on the higher side (high 70's low 80's), but nothing alarming. Humidity has been right around 50% as well. No more trimming as it's entirely done growing new leaves. Happy 4th to all burger bro's!
Not much has been going on with the temperatures and I've been able to keep an eye on the humidifier more. Seeing some of the leaves get some deficiencies this late in the game I asked a IG grower if I should flush it and use PH'd water from here on in or flush, do a last feed then flush again. The prior option was deemed the best route. So it's water from here till harvest. Colas have been fattening nicely, in the future I probably want less colas on a plant. Can't be long now till it's ready, hoping in the next 2-3 weeks!
In the final stretch! This week I turned down the dimmer on the led driver to help make the temps drop. It worked great so now the temps are 74/75F when the lights are on. RH is around 50 when lights are on and 40 when lights and humidifier are off. Just waiting for more hairs to turn orange, the trichomes already got a little bit of amber to them. I've been giving her only PH'd water for the last week and a half.
In the final days and watching the last clear trichomes turn milky. I've turned off the humidifier, let the rh drop to high 30's, reduced the light to 25%, watered with cold water and iced the pot. I'm pretty much done watering and looking to speed up the ripening as it's getting too heavy for the branches to support anymore. There's no real science behind any of what I'm doing, it's just internet forum witch-doctory.
Not a full week, and a little late. It started to get too heavy to hold itself up. The trichomes and hairs we're pretty much on point so I'm happy with the end of it.
Great experience but I got a little hasty towards the end as it was starting to fall over in the final week. I could have really benefited from a net on this grow and will definitely use one for this strain when I grow the other seeds I got. It hasn't cured yet so the smokes not that smooth and the smell is not yet "ripe" We let it dry for a week and after the dry trim I put it in a brown bag for a day. 8 days total dry and because I let the heat go up to about 90F and the RH drop to 37%. I'm sure this will lead to it not being perfect. The RH in the jars is around 45%, but I'm getting humidity packs to getting it higher to help mitigate the dryness. Other than that the highs great and as expected of a sativa dominant. Thanks everyone who kept up with this grow!
