MELs_Garden Dr Grinspoon is in da house!! As always, thanks to CRAZY ROOTS for the support and everything because without you guys, it wouldn't be possible. This one's for CRAZY ROOTS!! So, we received a 35 cm plant of Dr Grinspoon from Barney Farm. Let's break it down: Genetics: Sativa family relic phenotypes Sex: Feminized Type: 100% Sativa Indoor Flowering: 95 - 100 days Indoor Yield per m2: 350 gr THC: 25% CBD: 0.4% For growth, we'll be using: Lighting: Grow the Jungle 15w LED Strips Homemade grow tent Substrate: Atami coco 4l pot It arrived here around May 5th, and that same day we practiced LST to keep it as low as possible in the pot. On May 8th, we did the first watering with about 0.5l 0.2ml Roombastic + 1/1.5ml of calcium max pH 5.25/5.9 EC 0.66/0.97ms T h2O: 24.3/20.9°C From what we know, this plant doesn't need too many nutrients, so we're going to take it easy. WEEK 1 (May 9 - 15) On May 9th, we did Supercropping on the stems at nodes 2, 3, 4, 5 starting from the top. The idea is to train it and make it strong, then transplant it into a good pot with a good reservoir and give it a meter for a good SCROG. We know it's a very complicated plant and recommended for expert growers, so we'll try to give our best version. May 12 Now that we’re in it, this is a plant that supposedly doesn’t eat too much, that should be quite special and recommended for experts... So what we'll do is act without thinking too much, going on an adventure 😂😂😂 we might have to abort mission in week 3, or it might turn out great... Russian roulette... Transplanted to 25l pots with Atami coco. Dismantling LST and redoing it in the 25l pot. We have it tied around the pot, the idea is to achieve the full circle by training the plant, and since we have space and aren’t in a hurry, you see how it is. Watering with Atami Roombastic at 0.2ml•l with an EC of 0.3ms, a pH of 6, and a temperature of about 19°C. May 16: The plant keeps growing although it’s recovering from the severe punishment. Despite the fact that the watering I did had a low EC (0.6/0.9ms), it seems like it was too much? 🤔

MELs_Garden WEEK 2 (May 17 - 23) This plant is quite peculiar. After the previous watering with an EC of 0.9ms, it showed slight signs of over-fertilization with the tips curling down and a bit yellow at the peak. It turns out that the new shoots are coming out with a lighter green (In my opinion, it's demanding N). Since I have a 25l pot and the roots haven't colonized all the substrate, it doesn't need to be watered too abundantly. May 21 We performed foliar feeding and watering the pot. 5g•l diatomaceous earth (preventive) + 1 ml Neem oil + 0.2ml Rootbastic pH 5.52 EC: 0.25ms T h2O: 18°C We pruned the large leaves that were bothering us a bit or touching the substrate. We took some cuttings.

MELs_Garden Week 3 (May 24 to 30) We're continuing with the LST. We’re not paying much attention. We're still training but not much else. And it's doing its own thing, growing like crazy, and it's going to be quite an odyssey to keep it under control. Temperature and humidity are totally under control. Since it takes up quite a bit of space, we're giving it 12 hours of LEC and then about 6 hours on LED to keep the growth cycle going. I had to loosen the supports a bit because the stem is getting so thick that it was starting to strangle... hahahaha

MELs_Garden Week 6 (June 14 - 20) Well... this is pulling like a champ. We reduced the hours to 16h ON/ 8h OFF. We changed rooms and put it under a 315w lec light at minimal power (165w) and a good fan. The temperatures are around 22/23 °C with the light on, so that's great. The level of nutrients we've been giving has been minimal. The maximum EC we administered doesn't exceed 1ms. We do LST almost daily, from the tip to all the shoots. Some shoots grew a lot and we had to do some topping. Preventatives: We did a preventative watering with Neem oil at a rate of 1.5 ml • l and 15ml•l of Spruzit. On two occasions, we also used the sulfur burner for about 5-6 hours; every little bit helps when it comes to prevention.

MELs_Garden Since I haven't been able to be in the garden this week, I'll combine the next two into one. WEEK 6 (June 14 - 20) June 14 5 hours with the sulfur burner to keep smashing the thrips and other pests/fungi. June 15 We did a foliar spray with 1.5 ml•l of neem oil + 13 ml•l of Spruzit. We continue the battle against pests. The temperature is between 21/22.7°C with the light on (better than we expected at this stage), humidity is stable around 60%, and we have the LEC running at 165w. LST training to the max 😆 Week 7 (From June 20 to 26) We're back with updates; apologies for not doing daily updates, we're busy with a new project so we'll probably do all the follow-ups weekly. June 21 We watered with just water, we want the plant to take advantage of all the nutrients left in the substrate. PH 6.2 Ec: 0.2ms Th2O 23°C June 23 She's pushing like a champ, some shoots we didn't expect have gained a lot of strength. June 26 We did leaf defoliation to let the light in.

MELs_Garden From July 5 to 12 Hello everyone, another week has passed. Things are progressing well and this will be the last week we update only once a week; we will return to daily updates. We continue with our LST daily. July 8 and 9 We used the sulfur burner for about 5-6 hours as a preventive measure against possible pests. July 10 Today was pruning day (quite severe); we pruned some leaves and continued bending the branches. The dpblamps are everywhere, underneath, on top... All over, it's wild. The temperatures are looking very good compared to what I've heard about the indoor setups of those around me and other growers. We have about 25-26°C with a max of 27.8°C and a minimum of 23°C. Get ready because the good stuff is coming. July 11 We watered via foliar with 1 ml of neem oil + 10 ml of spruzit + 1 ml of a product they gave us to try as a preventive and insecticide. With this same liquid, we flooded the tray a few centimeters to perform an absorption watering. Why? Because thrips feed on the surface but live in the soil, and many of them are at the bottom of the pot, so these little bugs won't have an escape. My battle with them has been going on for a while, and I want to keep them in check.

MELs_Garden Let the show begin July 20 We switched to 12h. A big one is coming, I’ll try to provide daily updates if possible because I'm really interested in seeing how it develops, and I hope you are too. WEEK 0 July 20 to 26 Unlike my usual grows, this time I'm starting from week 0. Our friends at Crazy Roots are helping us, and with their experience, we’re jumping in with our eyes closed 😜 It's already starting to lift the branches we supercropped. We're very happy with the training we did; the results are looking really good. July 21 Watering with about 2.2l 1 vitamax + 2.5 Only tec + 2 bloom fuel + 0.3 silica power PH: 5.6/5.7 Th20: 25°C It's a pleasure to see her; the truth is, she's looking pretty, but again she's asking for food. We’ll take it easy since this is a long battle, and it’s better to stay on the low side than to overdo it. July 23 Foliar spray with diatomaceous earth as a preventive measure. July 24 We have some white residue from the diatomaceous earth on the leaves, but it’s nothing to worry about, more of an aesthetic issue. Plus, we took the opportunity to do some leaf pruning that was due, and we had a bush... we’re cleaning it up and leaving the branches we want for flowering. The temperatures are around 27°C, but we’re making an important change. We’re going to swap our 315w lec for 2 Jackson (LED panel) of 150w from Grow the Jungle; we’ll see what comes out, surely something good. We hope to lower the temperatures a bit with this change and achieve more homogeneity in the grow. July 25 We’re doing a lighter watering to avoid over-fertilizing. Watering with about 1.5l 2.5 ml Bud fuel pro + 2.5 ml bloom fuel PH 6.2 EC 0.6ms Th20: 22.5°C July 26 That first week 0 is over. Today we’re running the sulfur burner for about 5h; we need to prevent everything we can because once the flowers come out, there will be no margin for error. We’re also doing a foliar spray with Delta nine using 4.5ml•l Just to reflect: Never in my life had I seen anything like this. I had read that it was a complex plant, that you have to feed it drop by drop, that it stretches a lot... But experiencing it firsthand is different, and we’re not even in advanced flowering yet. This plant has long stopped making sense. It’s very difficult to take photos because it’s so bushy and complex; it’s incredible how it branches out. I’ve been bending branches and intertwining them nonsensically in an attempt to control it, but it’s untamable. Since I have some Amnesia in the same grow, the nutrient level is quite low, but even so, you see it asking for nutrients, but watering with an EC of 1ms and the leaves are curling (over-fertilization). I’ve seen diaries of people putting it at 30cm and doing apical pruning before switching to flower and ending up at 150cm... So how will this react to the change? As of today, I wonder if it was a good idea to train it so much and if we’ll be able to control it. Ladies and gentlemen, THE SHOW IS GUARANTEED!!!!

What do you think about defoliation? Did I go too light? Enough or excessive?

When defoliating, the best thing you can do is identify future bud sites, locate densely packed areas of foliage, and see which leaves aren't getting enough light to be useful. If leaves aren't getting enough light, they will take from the plant more than they give. We call them "sinks" and the best thing to do is cut them away. Too densely packed foliage will limit airflow and open you up for molds and also block light penetration. You obviously want future bud sites to be getting enough light to grow big and strong, so cut away fan leaves that are blocking the light. Never remove more than 1/3 of the fan leaves at once. When deciding to trim off a leaf, *stop*, ask yourself, "why do I want to cut this leaf?" If you don't have a good reason, leave it alone. Find that happy balance and keep up the good work!

MELs_Garden Week 1 July 27 to August 2 July 28 She's thriving. I don't know what's going on today, but she looks gorgeous, radiating health from all sides and the buds are already starting to pop. We're very happy. July 29 Tomorrow it's time to water. July 30 Today it's 39°C outside, 30 in the room. We did watering with approximately 2L: 1 Only tec + 2.5 Bud fuel pro + 2.5 bloom fuel + 1 vitamax pro + 0.3 silica power from BAC + 0.2 Rootbastic PH 5.8 EC: 1.5ms Th20: 22°C July 31 The heat continues outside.. for now, we're holding up pretty well, plus I know this strain doesn't mind the heat. Today we released the tip that was stuck to the pot so it can catch up with the rest of the plant. By the way, it's been a couple of days since she showed sex 😋 August 1 We did watering with approximately 2L: 1 Only tec + 2.5 Bud fuel pro + 2.5 bloom fuel + 1 vitamax pro + 0.3 silica power from BAC + 1 calmax PH 5.8 EC: 1.5ms Th20: 22°C

MELs_Garden Week 2 From August 3 to 9 Incredible, the show goes on and you’re all invited. Come on in and take a look. It's already stretching nicely and it's a bit scary, it looks very healthy and I don't know what else to say. August 3 Today we freed the tip of the plant from its punishment so that it can catch up with the rest and not stay behind. Temperatures are dropping again and we're at 26°C 😊 August 4 We noticed that the last watering might have been too strong, so we took the opportunity to do several things. • The plant has 0 signs of pests, no bites or anything.. it seems the preventative measures have worked well, but we’re not letting our guard down. We sprinkled the top layer of the substrate with diatomaceous earth and moistened it. Since the substrate had already gone down quite a bit, we added a layer of substrate (monkey soil coco) and sprinkled again. • We did a watering with almost 2 liters. Used 0.16 Mammoth P + 1 calmax pH 6.2 EC: 0.4/0.6ms Th20: 23.5°C I almost forgot to mention, it’s starting to give off that authentic grinspoon smell. August 5 Today we freed the beast. We released almost all the LST because it’s so tough that I doubt it will deform much.. August 6 This just keeps growing and branching out like crazy, so today we’re back to the torture to try to keep it controlled, but we know full well that this battle is lost 🤣🤣 we’re bending them again, we’ll see the difference in tomorrow's photos 😉 The heat is back, but we’re holding up pretty well although the humidity is now almost 70%. August 8 Today it was thirsty, so it was time to water. 5ml•l of Delta 9 pH 6.01 EC: 1.2ms Th20: 26.6°C We removed some leaves from the bottom. It’s already getting up from its punishment, the little bitch, this plant is laughing at me 🤣🤣 August 9 We finished this week 2. We’re still dealing with the heat and humidity, in that sense it’s been a bad day. The temperature is around 28°C with a max of 30 and a minimum of 24.5°C (in OFF)*, we’ve been told that the GRISNPOON handles heat well, so we’re not too worried. The humidity has been around 60/70%, we hope the conditions improve when the flowering is more advanced, although with this specific strain I don’t think we’ll have problems with mold or anything. Today we did the last preventative, about 6 hours with the sulfur burner, and after ventilating for a while, we did a foliar spray with 15ml spruzit + 2 neem oil + 2 a test product. Wild as ever, a maze of branches and in conclusion, it’s madness. This is already giving off quite a bit of aroma, I don’t even want to think about it in 8 weeks.

MELs_Garden Week 3 From August 10 to 16 We face another week, although we still have a long way to go. August 11 We did a watering but without nutrients. The only thing we added is 1ml of calcium and another of magnesium at a pH of 6 and an EC of 0.6ms with a watering temperature of 24.3°C. We see that it has a slightly intense green, and I prefer to give it water until it lightens to a lighter green. Other than that, we’re thrilled; it gets back up after every hit and is producing quite a few flowers, much more than I would have thought for being so sativa. August 13 We’re feeling pumped. We placed 4 fiber bars at the ends of the tray and set up a net with large holes; this will be the first of several. Our main goal is to position the most important branches. We don’t mind if several branches are positioned in the same spot because as it grows, we’ll be adding different nets of different sizes. We didn’t have time today, but I hope to finish it tomorrow and update it since it will be time for watering. We raised the light about 20 cm because otherwise, it was practically going to touch it. 😅 August 14 We did a nutrient watering with about 2.5l. 0.1gr•l of blossom Blaster + 2 bud fuel + 1 vitamax + 1.3 solo tek pH 5.7 EC: 1.2ms Th20: 24.5°C The net is not fully set up yet, but we’ll give it a few days to settle a bit, and then we’ll do a pruning of everything that remains in the shade. August 16 We finish this week 3 and we’re amazed. It shows no signs of deficiencies or pests and looks great. Soon we’ll do a pruning of everything that isn’t useful to lighten the workload. The temperatures have dropped, and humidity too; we’ll be around 26.9°C and 62% relative humidity.

We placed some more stakes in the tray and then set up the nets. We placed one at mid-height and guided the branches, placing the second net a few cm higher but without aligning the meshes so that each branch can take its own path. We also did a severe pruning, removing all the leaves that are far from the light or that are a nuisance, as well as the lower buds. While pruning, we noticed some leaves marked possibly by spider mites. We removed all the affected leaves and that's it for today; tomorrow we'll take measurements. August 20 Due to the high temperatures and humidity (even though last week we had a max of 62% and a min of 44%), we found some fungus gnats, so we put yellow traps, one on each plant. We're going to wait for the pots to dry well to avoid these problems. To top it off, we sprinkled diatomaceous earth on the top layer of the substrate to eliminate any possible larvae. August 22 After these days, the pot is dry again and I'm sticking to my usual idea, to go easy, so we'll do a watering with water. 0.16 Mammoth P + 1 vitamax pro + 0.6 final solution (catalysts to activate enzymes that better utilize the leftovers and dead roots) PH 5.9/6 EC: 0.3ms Th20: 22°C

MELs_Garden Week 5 From August 24 to 30 August 26 We noticed that some leaves were marked by spider mites, and indeed they were. The good thing is that I've been on top of it and caught them early. We removed the affected leaves and will wait until tomorrow. Let's hope it cools down because with the heat outside, it's a bit difficult to work. We see that the soil is well dry, so we watered with about 2 liters. 2 bud fuel + 2 solo tek + 1 vitamax pro + 1.5 heavy bud + 0.15 monster bloom.. EC 1.8 PH 5.8 Th20: 23.2°C This watering might be a bit strong, but we'll see how it reacts. We sprinkled diatomaceous earth from top to bottom to combat the spider mite infestation; we'll wait a few days to see the effect. August 29 Well, today we took measurements... but first of all, as always, thanks to crazy roots for everything; without them, none of this would be possible. So, half an hour before turning on the lights, we did a foliar spray to deal with this infestation. 50 plant vitality + 2.5 cinnaport + 15 growth efficiency method 1 We added a fan to improve air circulation.

MELs_Garden Week 6 From August 31 to September 6 August 31 The spider isn't backing down; it seems the mix we applied is having an effect, but I don't think it's enough. We'll probably hit it again this week to finish them off. We did a watering of about 3 liters. 1 solo tek + 1 vitamax + 2.5 heavy bud + 2 bloom fuel + 1 calmax pH: 5.8 EC: 1.7ms Th20: approx. 23°C September 1 We took down the top net to work more comfortably, removed the most affected leaves, and we can see that especially on the left side, it's quite affected while the right side isn't much. In the coming days, we'll tie it back to the nets, but we'll see how it goes. The temperature is still maxing out at 26°C and dropping to a minimum of 23.3°C. September 5 Since I don't fully trust it and it's a bit affected by the spider, we gave it a watering with about 4 liters of water + 8ml of canna flush to correct the excesses created. Tomorrow we hope to give it the final pest control and kill all the spiders so we can move forward.

MELs_Garden Week 7 From September 7 to 13 September 7 Since the spider won't give up, we're doing a foliar spray with spider killer. We'll be applying this product every 2-3 days until we get rid of it. September 10 We haven't finished off the spider and we're still using the spider killer. Some are falling off, but we can't get rid of all of them. September 13 We're doing a foliar spray with 50ml/l of vitality plus to deal with the damn spider that's becoming a nuisance. Many leaves are marked and we've removed them. It's really bugging me... On top of that, we're watering with 3.5l of water at pH 6.2 and EC: 0.3ms.

MELs_Garden Week 8 From September 14 to 20 The buds are looking nice, but at this rate, I don't even know if we'll survive the spider... September 16 First, we did 2 foliar sprays a few hours apart. The first with vitality plus and the second with spruzit. We want to get rid of the damn spider, but I don't know if we'll have time.. We watered with.. 0.3 monster + 0.25 carbomax + 2.5 heavy bud fuel + 0.5 vitamax + 1.5 solo tek + 1 calmax + 1 magnesium pH 6.2 EC: 1.8 ms Th20: 22°C September 18 Good news, it seems we've managed to turn it around; we examined the plant with the microscope and didn't see any spiders. We saw black spots, but they were the dead spiders that got stuck there as if they had burned. Some live spider we saw had a black belly and was moving really weird compared to how they usually do, like it was drunk. Tomorrow we'll set up the net floors again to get it back to its maximum. These days it's been hot, and we're around 29°C.

MELs_Garden Week 9 From September 21 to 27 On the 21st, we watered with plain water at a pH of 6.2 and EC: 0.1ms. It’s a calm week, they are fattening up and the smell is quite strong. It's a mix of ammonia, I don't know if I should say, citrus and herbal. They are taking in a lot more than I expected and they look pretty good. The temperatures are dropping day by day, the cold is coming and we like that.

MELs_Garden We harvested on October 30th. We put it in the drying room. Once it finishes drying, we will cure it, and then I will share all the conclusions. November 14th We now have the Dr. Grinspoon well dried and we're moving on to jars for its subsequent curing. Before putting it in the jars, we finished cleaning it and weighed it. In total, we got 72.5 grams of pure buds, without branches or leaves, plus a bag full of small buds and leaves for some kind of extraction. You can already see in the photos the shape of the bud, and no matter how much it looks, it hardly weighs anything. Now let's move on to the evaluation and conclusions of this DR GRINSPOON that we've had in our garden for 6 months: • Growth Phase First of all, it does NOT like nitrogen, rather it rejects it. In the vegetative phase, every time I watered it with nutrients, it complained; at the first sign, it showed signs of over-fertilization. I ended up watering it with water + CalMg, and just with that, it pushed forward. This plant is the one I've seen branch out the most in my life. It's very responsive to training techniques; LST and supercropping suit it well (something essential if you want to grow this variety). It's very resilient; every time you lay it down, it stands back up at the first opportunity. It also tolerates apical pruning well, but this can be a problem because it gains a lot of volume and can be an issue in the long run. It's a wild one; it stretches, stretches, and stretches again. I had to start bending it from the beginning to keep it in check, but it took many hours to support the branches with nets and ropes. We even used a total of 3 nets at different heights so that each branch had its space and to keep it contained; thanks to this, we managed to keep it at 85cm, quite an achievement in my opinion.. 😅 Regarding pests, it went through a spider mite infestation, and compared to other varieties, it was affected much more. I think its smell and taste are appealing to bugs, but this is just my observation. • Flowering Phase: Here, things go slowly... it took a little over 3 months to be ready. Things are moving slowly but surely. After stretching and sexing, it starts to produce buds like any other plant, but as time goes on, you see that this is not just any plant. Over time, you see how the buds start to stretch and stack on top of each other. Thanks to Crazy Roots, who helped and advised us on this strain, we managed to get these "churros" to grow close to each other instead of each going in a different direction; this way, we achieved the most "compact" buds possible, forming several colas. The smell during flowering reaches a point where it is quite strong and very unique. It reminds us a lot of cat pee, and from what we've read, we're not the only ones. My girlfriend has commented more than once that the cats had peed, and it was actually the door to the indoor that was open. The smell is like ammonia, lemon, and some herbs, and I would dare to say mint... although as it progresses, the aroma changes. In terms of resin, it's not a very resinous plant, but in the last weeks, those "churros" turn bright white, but only the buds, not much more. • Harvest Knowing that it's a plant that doesn't produce compact buds, I'm very happy with the 72 grams; now we will cure it for at least 1 or 2 months, and then we'll light it up. As you can see in the photos, the buds are unlike anything I've smoked until now. I've smoked a bit to try it, but I haven't drawn any conclusions yet; it needs to cure to acquire flavor, and then we can talk. December 25th After a few months of curing, we light up the Dr. Grinspoon. The buds, with their peculiar shape, take up a lot of space but don't weigh excessively; however, when it comes to grinding it, it goes much further than it seems at first glance. The smell is 100% Grinspoon and practically tastes like it smells. I wouldn't know how to describe its flavor; it has hints of lemon and earth, but above that, another flavor prevails, that peculiar taste that I wouldn't know how to define in words. As soon as you take the first hit, you realize this is no joke, and the people I've let try it have been blown away because they had never tasted anything like it. It doesn't mean it's incredible; people's tastes vary, but it is definitely different from everything we're used to. I would have liked it to be a bit more intense in terms of flavor, but it's still quite tasty. Honestly, when I smoked the first joint of Grinspoon, I initially felt a bit disappointed... but that feeling didn't last even 10 minutes... shortly after, I felt a rush of coolness from my feet to my head and an incredible sense of euphoria. My cannabis tasting buddy was amazed, and my hands were sweating 😂😂 incredible. During that high, I noticed that I couldn't focus my vision well, and the sensation could be described as a bit hallucinogenic because when I couldn't focus both eyes on a lighter, it looked like a Siamese lighter 😂😂 this effect was brief, and shortly after, my eyes opened wide, and I started doing a ton of things because my heart was racing quite fast, and I couldn't stay still. 😂😂 In the following days, I've consumed it again, but I haven't had any weird effects, just a 200% energy boost. In conclusion, I liked the experience. I think it's a strain that every grower should try at least once in their life. I recommend it only for daytime smoking; it's very pleasant and suitable for any activity. I don't recommend it before sleeping because you wouldn't be able to fall asleep... Thank you very much to Barney's Farm for this strain and especially to Crazy Roots for the help and support.

Hi mate nice grow and congrats on being patient enough to grow the grinspoon!! Big Question - knowing what you know now regarding the 6 months time it takes to grow etc ... would you bother to grow it again?? I have been wanting to grow it myself but the flowering time really puts me off unless it was really as good as they make it out to be Cheers mate

@Grey_wolf, first of all thank you 😊 I'm sure I will grow grinspoon again 100% the only thing I will in a few years. It is a herb that is particularly going to last me a long time because I use it as something special. From my experience in this crop I would tell you that if you grow it apart or treat it individually with respect to the rest because it is a bad beast (it is incobtrolable and must contain it) and because its nutrition is much lighter than the rest, it does not like nitrogen. What we were going.. for me the taste is nothing spectacular.. this good and it is different but I have better strains.. that if.. its effect is a real madness, here if I do not know anything that resembles it.It is not like the “normal” cannabis, in my case why I have smoked and why I have given them to prove the conclusion to been the same, resembles the rise of the “drug" (their words) I hope I helped you something 🙏 🙏

@MELs_Garden, Thankyou for your excellent reply , I think I will eventually grow the grinspoon but maybe in an outdoor environment and with about 5 plants so i get maximum return for the 6 months wait time 😀
