I'm growing northern lights auto and just started to flower should I thin out the canopy so light can get down further?

I am always in favour of defoliation and I really saw its benefits especially during flowering. You can use a high-defoliation by removing all the big fan leaves at the beginning of flowering. She will grow new fresh leaves within 2 weeks, and the flowers will get more light in the meantime, and get bigger. You can also notice that the leaves which don't get enough light doesn't develop much and the plant left it to dry anyway. So under the canopy you should also take away the leaves which doesn't get any light. I hope this helps. Happy growing! Y

Sounds like you're pretty well on track for your harvest in approximately 10 days; my Northern Lights grows usually need 7 or 8 weeks in flowering mode. Regarding drying time, that's dependent on your set-up. I use an 8' x 8' closet without a window and keep the temperature at 75F and the humidity at 50%-55%. Under those conditions, with sugar leaves removed and stems kept short, I can usually get them dried in 2 to 4 days. When the small stems crack with moderate pressure but the large stems still bend, plus you can click a small bud off easily with very slight pressure, your buds are probably at the sweet spot range to start curing. Keep a close eye on the buds in the jars; if after the first couple hours they seem moist on the outside, take them back out and spread them out on a clean, dry surface for another few hours, then try them in the jars again. When you've done this once or twice it'll seem like second nature. BTW, your Lady looks great!

@AuldKelt, that's so funny I was just reading the complete guide to growing and curing last night from the growweedeasy website. Haha thanks for the tip tho

@GrowingGracie, I should have also pointed you towards an excellent tutorial on that topic on the GrowWeedEasy website. Look for The Complete Guide to Drying & Curing; it covers the subject very well and should provide everything you need to know. I don't agree with ALL the advice the site offers, but nobody agrees all the time😊. I'd have given my eyeteeth for a resource like that when I was first growing, but computers and websites weren't even a bleak in the eye back then! Take Care.

Seems like you might be over watering. Trying drying the plant right out then watering slow to bring back the soil

Congratulations on your successful harvest! So glad to see the final stretch went well for you. That's exceptional for a first grow. A Blue Ribbon performance for sure. Give yourself a hearty and well earned pat on the back! Take Care.
