Greetings fellow growers 🖖 and welcome to my first grow ever. This adventure actually started several months ago when I decided to stop buying flower from dispensaries and just grow my own bud. How hard can it be!? This is actually my second seed of this strain. The first bean sadly died due to over watering (sorry girl, RIP). I was literally watering the cube to the point where water was dripping from the bottom, then heavily sprayed the humidity dome and tray with the vents completely closed. Everyday. Multiple times. I never let the dome or try dry out. So after about 8 days of not sprouting, there was a funky smell of rot. So that was that. Later I learned that rockwool retains a lot of water and can easily drown seeds. So a wet/dry cycle is best for rockwool germination. So even after hours of researching and digging through forums and tutorial videos, I was still under prepared for this journey. Did not consider how delicate the germination phase is. Oh well. Lesson learned. Reset and try again! I hope everyone is safe and stoned during this corona crisis. Just like everyone else in the world, I want this pandemic to be over with. But in the meantime, let's grow some weed! 🖖 [START OF WEEK 01] Day 01 - Monday - 08/03/20 - Total Days: 001 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: Light Schedule: 24Hrs/0 --- Soaked cube in 5.5 PH water for 10 min. Did not shake water out. --- NO NUTES! Only PH'd down to control the PH levels. --- Did not use the default hole (way too deep). --- Flipped cube upside down and made a shallow hole for the seed (less than 0.25" deep). --- Placed seed in and pinched hole close. No additional water added. --- Sprayed the tray and dome with straight water (5.5 PH). --- Vents are cracked opened a for ventilation (about 1/4 opened each). --- Distance between the light and tray was 53" --- AC was set to 80 °F --- Exhaust fan was set to 86 °F --- Room average temp was at 85 °F --- Dome humidity was at 85-99% when sprayed. --- Allowing to completely dry before respraying. - [2200]: Dome and tray were completely dry! Sprayed only tray and dome with more water. Day 02 - Tuesday - 08/04/20 - Total Days: 002 ----------------------------------- - [0845]: Sprayed dome and tray in the morning. Everything was dry. --- Hoping for the best! - [2130]: Everything was dry again, so sprayed dome and tray at night along with a light spray on the cube. Day 03 - Wednesday - 08/05/20 - Total Days: 003 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: Everything was dry again. Resprayed dome and tray. Slightly sprayed cube. - [2125]: Hooo damn!! She popped! Am little stub is visible! Resprayed dome and tray again. --- Still going 24/0 for lights. - [+0033]: Just checked up on her and I swear she grew a bit taller! Getting excited! Day 04 - Thursday - 08/06/20 - Total Days: 004 ----------------------------------- - [0845]: Wow! Went from a little stub to fully sprouted overnight! Everything was pretty dry again so resprayed dome and tray. - [2200]: Tap root is visible! Over 1" long too! Just resprayed dome and tray again. -- Going to prep for hydroton transplant tomorrow! Day 05 - Friday - 08/07/20 - Total Days: 005 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: She keeps growing! -- Added a bit of CalMag to the spray bottle (8 drops to 650ml of distilled water). Resprayed dome and tray. Water was at a 5.4 PH with 141 PPM. - [1045]: Prepped the bubble bucket with 4.5gal of water. Water is high enough to reach about 0.25" above the bottom of the net pot. --- Added 3 drops of Superthrive --- Added 3.5ml of CaliMagic --- Added 2ml Hydroguard --- Then PH'd down to 5.6 --- Solution Strengh: 120 PPM --- Water chiller is set to 20 °C - [1100]: Transplant time! --- Filled the net basket 1/3 with hydroton. When placed in the bucket, air bubbles are not visible, but are slightly below the surface (slight digging will reveal the water/bubbles below). --- Removed plastic on rockwool cube and placed in basket, then filled around and covered with hydroton. Making sure to block any light from passing through the net pot and into the nutrient solution. --- Covered with a half-bottle dome sprayed with the CalMag water from earlier. --- Hoping for the best! - [1300]: Raised Bucket 5" higher. Now light distance is 48" to top of bucket. - [1820]: Lowered tent exhaust temp to 76 °F --- Lowered AC to 75 °F --- Raised bucket even higher so light distance is 30" to top of bucket. - [2300]: Looking good! --- Sprayed dome and surrounding hydroton with more CalMag water. --- Attached timer to light! So new 18 Hrs On/6 Hrs Off light schedule. --- Lights On: [1600] (4pm) --- Lights Off: [+1000] (10am the next day) --- Decided to go with lights on during the evening/night and off during the later mornings/afternoon (the hottest part of the day) to see if temps can be controlled better. --- Please survive girl! Day 06 - Saturday - 08/08/20 - Total Days: 006 ----------------------------------- - [0800]: Everything was dry. Resprayed hydroton and dome. - [2000]: Here first night cycle seemed to go well! Get'n taller! --- Dry again. Removed the dome. --- PH went up to 6.5 so PH'd down to 5.7 --- Ran the top feed drip ring for a bout a minute to wet the hydroton and rockwool with the nutient solution. ---Too scared to leave the top feed on 24hrs (I don't want over water her and cause dampening-off). Will let dry before re-watering. - [2100]: After closer inspection, I think she's looking a bit yellow. --- Decided to add a bit of grow nutes to the bubbler solution. --- Added 2ml of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2ml of Sensi Grow B --- Solution strength after adding more nutes: 176 PPM --- PH went up to 6 --- I hope that the extra chelating properties of the 'PH Perfect' solution is enough of a buffer for proper nutrient uptake. Day 07 - Sunday - 08/09/20 - Total Days: 007 ----------------------------------- - [0800]: Water dropped a bit (mostly due to evaporation) so solution strength was at 190. --- Checked PH again. Was still at 6, so PH'd down to 5.4 --- Ran the top feed for a minute to wet the hydroton a bit. - [0915]: Since she's looking perky but still a bit yellow. So decided to up the nutrient concentration even more before lights out. --- Added 2ml more of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2ml more of Sensi Grow B --- Solution strength after adding more nutes: 199 PPM --- PH went up to 5.8 - [1700]: Checked nutrients. --- PH: 5.9 --- Solution strength: 202 PPM --- Added 4ml of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4ml of B-52 --- PH after adding more nutes: 5.9 --- Solution strength after adding more nutes: 238 PPM - [2130]: Decided to make a new foliar spray to address the continued yellowing. --- Started with 500ml of distilled water. --- Added 3 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 3 drops of Sensi Grow A --- Added 3 drops of Sensi Grow B --- Added 3 drops of B-52 --- Added 1 drop of Superthrive --- Solution strength: 164 PPM --- PH was at 5.9 and did not adjust. --- Gave her one spray. --- Also sprayed the surrounding hydroton. Week 02 Introduction This week has been a bit of a struggle. Had my first experience dealing with slime and brown algae. But I think adding enzymes and increasing the beneficial bacteria helped to fix the issue. Also experienced nutrient burn for the first time. My nutrient solution strength got as high as 671 PPMs. So backed it down to about 430 PPMs during the end-of-week reservoir change. Also cut Hydroguard (expired?), CaliMagic, and Superthrive from this grow. Now she's still stunted, but is starting to recover. Hopefully... [START OF WEEK 02] Day 01 - Monday - 08/10/20 - Total Days: 008 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: Still looks a bit yellow. But getting larger! --- Solution strength was at 248 PPMs. --- Just topped off with a bit of distilled water --- PH went up to 6.1 so PH'd down to 5.8 --- Ran the top feed for a bit to wet the hydroton. - [2130]: She's looking even more yellow now. --- Even the new leaves are really yellow. --- Decided to add more base nutes. --- Added 4ml of Sensi A --- Added 4ml of Sensi B --- Now at about --- Solution Strength went up to 304 PPM. --- PH was at 6, --- Also raised the water level a bit more. --- I really hope it's a nutrient deficiency and not an over-watering issue. --- Please live! Day 02 - Tuesday - 08/11/20 - Total Days: 009 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: Looking less droopy. But still yellow. --- Decided to do a reservoir change. --- 4.5gal of distilled water --- 8ml of Sensi Grow A --- 8ml of Sensi Grow B --- 8ml of Voodoo Juice --- 4ml of B-52 --- 4ml of CaliMagic --- 4ml of Hydroguard --- 4 drops of Superthrive --- PH'd down to 5.8 --- Solution strength: 302 PPM --- Since I didn't want to risk over-watering the rockwool, I did not to do a top feed, may do one tonight after the sleep cycle (lights are still set to go off at 10am and back on at 4pm). --- As I was doing a reservoir change, I noticed that the tubes and bucket were a bit slimy. Didn't really stink or anything. Is this normal? Maybe due to the Hydroguard and Voodoo Juice? --- I hope she gets better soon! - [2215]: Getting larger! But still yellow. --- Also can see a root growing through the net pot! Tiny little thing but it's there! Will have to start dropping water once more appear. --- After looking over a few DWC diaries using AN nutes, seems like my solution strength is still too low. Most around this stage average around 500 PPMs with about 4ml per gallon. --- Top fed for a minute to wet the top of the hydroton. --- Solution strength went down to 263 PPM. --- Added 8ml more of Sensi A --- Added 8ml more of Sensi B --- Now base nutes are at 16ml for 4.5 gal of water. --- PPMs went up to 411. --- Still lower than 500 PPMs, but that's okay. --- PH was at 6. Not sure if I should adjust PH using AN nutes. So going to not ajdust unless PH goes above 6.1. Day 03 - Wednesday - 08/12/20 - Total Days: 010 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: Looks like more root growth! --- She still looks yellow. But leaves are perky. --- PH was at 6.2 so lowered down to 5.8. --- Solution strength was at 394 PPMs --- Since roots are still growing, I decide to lower the water level a bit. Now water level is a bit below the net pot. - [2200]: Root is getting longer! --- Slime is returning. Not sure why. --- Solution strength: 357 PPMs --- PH: 6.1 --- Decided to add an enzyme along with more beneficial bacteria to hopefully cure the slime. --- Added 16ml of Sensizym --- Added 5ml of Hydroguard --- Added 8ml of Voodoo Juice --- New solution strength: 430 PPMs --- New PH: 6.1 --- Top fed for a minute. --- This slimy residue is really freaking me out! I hope the added enzymes will help eliminate the slime. --- Going to do a full reservoir sterilization/nutrient change over the weekend. Please survive until then girl! Day 04 - Thursday - 08/13/20 - Total Days: 011 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: I think the enzymes worked! There is little to no slime now! --- Although I think the root was also dissolved in the process. It's now just a little stub sticking just below the net pot. The enzyme is also suppose to dissolved dead roots too but guess that root was too weak? Not sure what happened there. But I think the slime is cured! --- Solution strength went down to 395 PPMs. Decided to add more base nutrients. --- Added 8ml of Sensi A --- Added 8ml of Sensi B --- Added 4ml of B-52 --- Solution strength went up to 598 PPMs. --- PH was at 6.1 --- As long as the PH is between 5.5 and 6.3, I'm not going to use PH Up or Down. But still will monitor PH levels. - [1715]: Checked up on her after her nap and shes looking alive but stunted. But no slime! --- Decided to add some sugars to help maintain the enzymes and beneficial bacteria. --- Solution strength was at 587 PPMs. --- PH was at 6.2 --- Added 8ml of Bud Candy --- Solution strength went up to 671 PPMs. --- PH also went up to 6.3 --- Lowered water level a bit to hopefully promote more root growth. --- Top fed for a minute. --- She is getting bigger, but still looks yellow. Day 05 - Friday - 08/14/20 - Total Days: 012 ----------------------------------- - [0915]: Leaves look a little burnt on the tips. Still no slime. --- Going to back off on the PPMs to hopefully fix the nutrient toxicity. --- Solution strength was at 632 PPMs --- PH was at 6.3 --- Added/Removed water until PPMs were at 536. --- PH was still at 6.3 --- Raised water up a bit, then top fed for a minute. - [2200]: Looking better. Still yellow though. --- Solution strength: 514 PPMs --- PH: 6.5 --- Added PH down. --- New solution strength: 518 PPMs --- New PH: 5.2 --- PH was kind of high. So decided to PH down. Had to use quite a bit to bring it down. But eventually got it to drop down to 5.3. A little low, but so far, the PH has always gone up so wanted to start it really low. --- Ran the top feed for a minute to re-saturate the top of the hydroton. Day 06 - Saturday - 08/15/20 - Total Days: 013 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: She looks stunted. leaves are still yellow. --- Solution strength: 514 PPMs --- PH: 5.6 --- Top fed for a minute. --- Not sure what to do at this point. Going to do another reservoir change soon. Hoping she lives until then. - [2145]: Looking pretty much the same. --- A bit of slime has returned. Since I've been diluting the nutrient solution, the enzyme ratio has dropped. So I guess this is expected. --- Also noticed that slime build up was on the air-stones. Never really checked the stones so not sure how long that has been there. Looks brown too, which can't be good. --- Going to do an H202 sterilization of the system (minus the net pot) tomorrow so did not add anything. --- Lowered the water level to below the net pot. --- Then top fed for a minute. Day 07 - Sunday - 08/16/20 - Total Days: 014 ----------------------------------- - [0900]: STERILIZATION DAY! --- Decided to skip today's night cycle for a deep clean. --- I'm hoping that skipping a night cycle won't be too stressful. --- Temporarily moved her to a new bucket. --- Used about a half of gallon of straight distilled water to flush out the net pot. --- Drained the system and wiped up all the brown sludge. Also removed the air stones and cleaned up all the goo. --- Filled the system with 2 gallons of distilled water and at least 30ml of food grade hydrogen peroxide (35% strength). --- Yea its a lot, but since I'm not going to sterilize the system overnight, I went with a really high doseage. Basically I kept adding until I started to see little bubbles start to form. --- Then I ran the water pump. - [0915]: Boiled the air stones in tap water for about 10 min. Then reconnected them to the airlines. --- I let the air stones and hose soak in the sterilization solution for about 5 minutes so the peroxide can absorb into the stones. Then ran the air stone to help mix and agitate the solution. --- Occasionally, I'd repeat the process of turning the air pump off for a few minutes to let the stones soak. - [1000]: Covered the top two row of holes of the net pot with some aluminum tape. Hopefully this solves the light leaking in through the hydroton. - [1200]: Used an old toothbrush and scrubbed the pump clean. Then drained the system. --- Refilled with more distilled water and peroxide. Again added a lot. --- Ran system again to sterilize even more. - [1530]: Drained the system and refilled with distilled water to rinse. --- Ran the system for a few minutes, then drained and rinsed again. --- Did this a few more times over about an hour. - [1630]: Added 4 gallons of fresh distilled water. --- Added 15ml Sensi Grow A --- Added 15ml Sensi Grow B --- Added 12ml of B-52 --- Added 16ml of Voodoo Juice --- Added 16ml Sensizym --- Solution strength was at 430 PPMs --- PH was at 5.6 --- I was going to add Hydroguard, but I think the bottle is expired. Since 2017 or 2018!? I think Hydroguard is good for up to 2 years from the date on the bottle or 6 months after opening. So not going to use from now on. I wonder if this could have contributed to the slime build up. --- Also removed the CaliMagic and Superthrive too. Going to only use AN products to eliminate the chance of incompatible nutrients. --- Placed her back in the bucket and top fed for a minute. --- Here's hoping for the best. Going to let it ride until morning! Please feel better! [END OF WEEK 02]

Week 03 Introduction Going to be a long intro this week... Had some technical issues with my local files and somehow lost all of week 3 (days 1 through 6)... Not going to really stress over it because shit happens... No worries over the lost data. Wasn't really a productive week anyways in terms of plant growth. But I did fix the slime! Going to try to remember the last 6 days the best I can (writing this on Sunday) and will just log the solution strengths/PHs for the days (thankfully I have a written copy). This week was a lot of slime control refinement. Kept the slime at bay so should be good from now on! The slime was forming on the air stones a few days later, but eventually resided after adding a bit more enzymes/beneficial bacteria (2ml of Voodoo Juice and Sensizym). Haven't had any slime issues since. The dissolved tap root started to grow back sometime during the week so that was pretty cool. I ordered and received a fresh bottle of Hydroguard so going to be giving it another go (using it in the end-of-week reservoir change). Had a bit of an issue with the timestamp on the bottle but should be okay. The biggest decision of the week was to try to plant another seed this Sunday (same genetics). I think the slime really stunted my current girl so going to try again! Going to let the new one develop more root grow in the rock wool cube/humidity dome longer before transplanting into the bucket. Also I will be germinating under 18/6 lighting instead of 24. I only have one bucket, so when she catches up with the stunted one, I can just swap her out. But going to continue with the current one until then and hope for a recovery. [START OF WEEK 03] Day 01 - Monday - 08/17/20 - Total Days: 015 ----------------------------------- - [2200]: Solution strength: 425 PPMs --- PH: 5.8 Day 02 - Tuesday - 08/18/20 - Total Days: 016 ----------------------------------- - [2200]: Solution strength: 416 PPMs --- PH: 5.0 Day 03 - Wednesday - 08/19/20 - Total Days: 017 ----------------------------------- - [2200]: Solution strength: 415 PPMs --- PH: 5.4 --- I think slime started to form around this day. Day 04 - Thursday - 08/20/20 - Total Days: 018 ----------------------------------- - [2200]: Solution strength: 462 PPMs --- PH: 5.2 --- I think this is when I added more Sensizym/Voodoo Juice. Day 05 - Friday - 08/21/20 - Total Days: 019 ----------------------------------- - [2200]: Solution strength: 420 PPMs --- PH: 5.4 --- I think I decided around here that I'd give a 3rd seed a try. Day 06 - Saturday - 08/22/20 - Total Days: 020 ----------------------------------- - [2200]: Solution strength: 457 PPMs --- PH: 5.7 --- I think around this time I added an extra 1ml of Sensi Grow A & B to increase the solution strength. --- Top fed with the new solution for about a minute. Day 07 - Sunday - 08/23/20 - Total Days: 021 ----------------------------------- - [0815]: Looking stunted. Leaves are a bit larger though. --- Compared to other grow logs at this stage, she is way too tiny. Poor girl... I think it was the combination of slime and the high nutrient ratios during week 2 that halted this grow. --- Solution strength: 460 PPMs --- PH: 5.8 --- Did not adjust anything. Leaving alone until reservoir change. - [1615]: RESERVOIR CHANGE! - ALSO NEW GERMINATION DAY! --- On a side note, she's actually looking pretty perky too!? --- Could be because it's just after lights out. Not really sure why but not complaining! --- Soaked a new rockwool cube in distilled water that was PH'd down to 5.2 --- Moved her to a new bucket. --- Drained the system. --- There was quite a bit of brown floating bits in the water. Especially in the tubes for the water chiller. But that cleared up after several rinses. --- The important thing was that there was no slime! -[1645]: Filled the system up with 3.5 gallons of fresh distilled water. --- Added 16ml Sensi Grow A --- Added 16ml Sensi Grow B --- Added 12ml of B-52 --- Added 16ml of Voodoo Juice --- Added 16ml Sensizym --- Added 6ml of Hydroguard --- Solution strength was at 436 PPMs. --- PH was at 5.6 -[1715]: Placed her back into the bucket and top fed for a minute or two. --- Rockwool cube has been soaking for a bit now. --- PH went up to 5.4 --- Removed from water. Did not squeeze or shake water out. --- Flipped cube upside down and made a new hole just barely below the surface. --- I then dropped the new seed in and pinched the hole closed. --- I did NOT water the cube. --- I only sprayed the humidity tray and dome with straight distilled water. --- The dome vents set about a quarter of the way open to allow for some air circulation. Week 04 Introduction Well this week was an ending and a beginning. By the end of the week, I unfortunately decided to just end the current seedling and do an even stronger sterilization of the system. Followed by a very high enzyme/beneficial bacteria solution for the week. As for a beginning, this was week 1 for the new girl! So I guess this grow log will be 3 weeks behind. This time I'm going to tray feed her in the rockwool for at least a week to develop a better root zone (maybe even longer). I'm pretty sure I rushed things last time with transplanting so I want more than just the one tap root before I move her to the bucket. [START OF WEEK 04] Day 01 - Monday - 08/24/20 - Total Days: 022 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Looking better! --- Solution strength was at 435 PPMs --- PH was at 6.1 --- Did not adjust anything. --- Humidity dome was dry. Sprayed the tray and dome again with straight distilled water. - [2200]: Not droopy, so looking good! --- Solution strength was at 433 PPMs --- PH was at 6.2 --- PH'd down to 5.9 which brought the PPMs to 450. --- Top fed for a minute. Day 02 - Tuesday - 08/25/20 - Total Days: 023 ----------------------------------- - [0925]: Solution strength was at 465 PPMs --- PH was at 6.1 --- No adjustments were made. --- No top feed neither. --- Humidity dome wasn't completely dry, but the tray was. --- Sprayed both with more distilled water. - [1630]: Slime? What slime? Looking good so far! --- Solution strength was at 448 PPMs --- PH was at 6.1 --- Added 3ml of CaliMagic --- New solution strength was 553 PPMs --- PH did not change. --- Top fed for a minute. --- Again, the humidity dome wasn't completely dry, but the tray was. --- Sprayed both with more distilled water. --- Raised the tent temperature to about 85 °F - [2100]: Checked humidity dome and tray and was mostly dry. --- Re-sprayed dome and tray. --- Solution strength was at 544 PPMs --- PH was at 6.2 --- Adjusted PH down again. --- New PH was at 5.7 --- New solution strength went up to 558 PPMs Day 03 - Wednesday - 08/26/20 - Total Days: 024 ----------------------------------- - [0900]: Solution strength was at 540 PPMs --- PH was at 5.7 --- Dome and tray was dry, so sprayed both with more distilled water. -[2145]: Oh! I see a bit of a mound forming on the rockwool cube. Should be popping anytime now! --- Dome and tray were dry again. Sprayed again with more distilled water. --- Solution strength was at 522 PPMs --- PH was at 5.9 --- Slime started to form again on the tubing so added more enzymes and beneficial bacteria. --- Added 1ml of Sensizym --- Added 1ml of Voodoo Juice --- Did not add any Hydroguard. --- Did not top feed neither. --- Also lowered the water level by removing about 2 cups. Day 04 - Thursday - 08/27/20 - Total Days: 025 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Oh snap! She popped! The shell is still attached to the top of the sprout. My little helmet head! --- Again the dome and tray were dry so re sprayed both with straight distilled water. --- Not going to add nutes until roots start to form at the bottom. --- Solution strength was at 558 PPMs --- PH was at 5.9 --- Lowered the water level even more (2 cups less). --- No top feeding. - [2230]: More growth on the cube! --- Re sprayed dome and tray again. --- Solution strength was at 558 PPMs --- PH was at 6.0 --- Did not adjust anything and just top fed for a minute or two. Day 05 - Friday - 08/28/20 - Total Days: 026 ----------------------------------- - [0925]: Nice! New seedling is sprouting nicely! --- Still has her shell on, but that should fall off soon. --- Dome and tray was dry so sprayed more distilled water. --- Did not water the cube at all since the initial soak. --- Solution strength was at 560 PPMs --- PH was at 6.1 --- Added 1ml of Sensi Grow A --- Added 1ml of Sensi Grow B --- New solution strength: 586 PPMs --- New PH: 6.0 --- Did not top feed. - [2245]: Aye the new seedling grew more! --- Using a pair of tweezers, I helped her out and removed the stubborn shell. --- Sprayed the dome and tray again. --- Solution strength was at 563 PPMs --- PH was at 6.1 --- Added 1ml of Sensi Grow A --- Added 1ml of Sensi Grow B --- New solution strength: 663 PPMs --- New PH: 6.1 --- Top fed for a few minutes. Day 06 - Saturday - 08/29/20 - Total Days: 027 ----------------------------------- - [0815]: She's so yellow. I think she's pretty much dying. --- Hard for me to determine if this was underfeeding or overfeeding. --- Solution strength was at 663 PPMs. --- PH was at 6.1 --- Flushed the hydroton with a bit of distilled water. But I think she's done for... --- The new seedling is looking great! --- Just re sprayed the dome and tray with more distilled water. - [1930]: I guess she's almost dead... --- But I'm pretty sure it was the early onset of slime is what killed her. --- Going to clean her out tomorrow. RIP girl... --- I'll sterilize the whole system again. This time, including the hydroton. --- Also going to use the AN recommend feeding dosage for this new girl with the addition of Sensizym to keep the slime under control (Sensi Grow A+B, B52, Voodoo Juice, and Sensizym). --- New seedling is looking good! --- No roots yet and a cotyledon is a bit bent because of the seed shell, but her first set of leaves are looking pretty healthy! --- Planning on mixing a B-52 foliar spray along with a Voodoo Juice tray solution (1 drop for 500ml of water). Day 07 - Sunday - 08/30/20 - Total Days: 028 ----------------------------------- - [0915]: Removed the old seedling in preparation for the new one. --- After I examined her, she was healthier than I thought. She didn't stink of rot and had more roots that I thought. --- But she's just too stunted. Sorry girl. RIP. - [1000]: Rinsed and boiled the hydroton in water. - [1020]: Strained and placed the hydroton in distilled water. --- Hmm. Noticed that the Hydroton actual sinks? Last time I cleaned them, I did not boil. I just soaked the Hydroton in bleach (yea, I think that was a mistake) and most of them floated to the top (even after overnight soaking). But this time, after boiling, all of the stones sank straight to the bottom. --- PH'd the water down to 5.3 - [1030]: Drained the system. --- Boiled the air stones. --- Scrubbed the bucket and rinsed with distilled water - [1100]: Added the air stones back. --- Filled with about a gallon of water and about 8oz of H202. Bubbles started to form. --- Ran the pump. More algae/slime oozed out for a bit. But eventually cleared. --- Stopped the pump for a bit, then re ran. Did this for the air stones as well. - [1130]: Added about a gallon more water to dilute the solution a bit. --- Placed the empty net pot back in and ran top feed. - [1315]: Prepared some seedling tray solution. --- Filled a measuring cup with 100ml of distilled water. PH'd down to 5.2 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice. --- Poured the entire content into the tray. Also a little bit on the top corners of the cube. Not much. Just a bit. Most was in the tray. --- Also prepared 100ml of distilled water for a foliar spray. PH'd down to 5.5 --- Added 4 drops of B-52 --- Sprayed the top of the cube. --- Leaving the tray and dome outside the tent for a bit. - [1400]: Removed net pot and sprayed with tap water. Set that aside to dry. --- Checked Hydroton water. --- PH was at 7.2 --- PH'd down to 5.0 - [1615]: Drained system. --- Rinsed with distilled water a couple of times. - [1700]: Placed dome and tray back into tent. --- Filled bucket with 2gal of distilled water. --- Added 16ml of Sensizym --- Added 16ml of Voodoo Juice --- Added 8ml of Hydroguard --- Going to just let this brew to see if any slime returns. --- Probably won't transplant until next week so the roots can develop more in the rockwool cube. - [2100]: Checked the Hydroton water and the PH was at 6.8. For some reason, the PH keeps going up. PH'd down to 3.0 to see what happens. --- Also removed the humidity dome. Read in several forums that only clones need crazy high humidity and that seedlings don't need the dome once their first set of true leaves form. So off with the dome and lowering temps down to 75-78 °F. [END OF WEEK 04]

Week 05 Introduction Whew! This week has been hot! Hope everyone is staying cool and lifted during this summer scorcher (at least in California right now). So this week was basically a week of tray feeding. Throughout the week I slowly introduced grow nutrients and increased the PPMs of the tray solution until she was transplanted into the DWC system. Had a bit of issues with light burn too. Or I guess I've always had an issue with light burn. This could have been another factor that killed my last seedling. Never considered that too much light can be bad. She's been growing under full intensity light and I guess that is too much for a young seedling at 30-40" away. Throughout the week, I made a couple of cardboard shade covers to help protect her delicate leaves from the direct heat of the light. This was eventually upgraded to a better screen shade. After comparing images from my last seedling to images online for both deficiency and toxicity. I think another issue could have been a major nutrient deficiency. I'm learning so just trying to figure this out as I go. So this time I'm just going with the recommended dosages for nutrients. Hopefully this solves any deficiencies I was getting with the last seedling. Also dealing with a bit of electricity/circuit breaker issues. But hopefully I can address this issue soon. [START OF WEEK 05] Day 01 - Monday - 08/31/20 - Total Days: 29 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Oh snap! I see a tap root already! --- Made more tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. PH'd down to 5.2 --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic to the B-52 spray bottle and foliar sprayed a bit. - [2200]: Ho damn! Now there's two!? --- Made more tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 1 drop of Sensi Grow A --- Added 1 drop of Sensi Grow B --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH'd down to 5.7 --- Solution strength was at 383 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Made some fresh B-52 foliar spray. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 4 drops of B-52 --- PH'd down to 5.6 --- Sprayed top of cube a bit. - [2300]: Checked the bucket and no slime! There was a bit of foam, but no slime. Decided to refreshed the solution with more enzymes and beneficial bacteria. --- Added 1mL of Sensizym --- Added 1mL of Voodoo Juice --- Did not check PH or PPMs for the bucket. My main concern is the slime and there was not at all. --- Going to run the enzymes and beneficials high to make sure whatever traces of bad bacteria and slime is eliminated before transplant day. --- Hydroton bucket's PH was back up to 6.8. I have no idea why, but that's what it was. Going to leave alone for now and will boil and PH balance again just before transplant. Day 02 - Tuesday - 09/01/20 - Total Days: 30 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Nice! More root growth! --- Sprayed the cube with more of the B-52 foliar solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 1 drop of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH'd down to 5.3 --- Solution strength was at 341 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. - [2230]: She's looking pretty good! --- Aye a third root!? --- A friend from work said that she may be showing signs of light burn. --- So decided to increase the distance between the tray and the light, by removing the table and placing the tray on the bucket. --- New light to tray distance is 53" --- May even place her on the floor. - [2300]: Checked the tray solution and the PPMs were over 900! --- I guess it makes sense. Most of the water evaporates which would reduce and make the solution more concentrated. --- So I cleaned the tray and mixed some fresh solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH'd down to 5.4 --- Solution strength was at 318 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Foliar sprayed with more B-52 solution. Day 03 - Wednesday - 09/02/20 - Total Days: 31 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Oh damn! Four roots now! --- Cleaned the tray and mixed some fresh tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 1 drop of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH'd down to 5.6 --- Solution strength was at 306 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Made some fresh B-52 foliar spray. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 4 drops of B-52 --- PH'd down to 5.5 --- Sprayed top of cube a bit. - [2330]: Hmm. Looking a bit yellower. Light burn? I decided to lower the tray to the floor now. --- New light to tray distance is 65" --- Going to get a screen cloth/shade cloth to try to filter out some of the intense light. --- Mixed some more tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow B --- Added 2 drops of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH was not adjusted and was at 5.8 --- Solution strength was at 503 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Tray solution strength was at 541 PPMs - [+0030]: Kind of freaking out about the light burn so made a bit of a cardboard roof. Will replace with the screen mesh later. Still is quite bright under the cardboard but not nearly as intense. Please survive! Day 04 - Thursday - 09/03/20 - Total Days: 32 ----------------------------------- - [0900]: I think she's looking better. --- Mixed some more tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow B --- Added 2 drops of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH was not adjusted and was at 5.7 --- Solution strength was at 436 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Tray solution strength was at 566 PPMs --- No foliar spraying. - [2230]: Recovering. I think. --- Decided to flush and drop the nutrients from the equation. --- I removed the plastic from the cube to allow for better drainage/evaporation. --- Made some fresh B-52 foliar spray. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 5 drops of B-52 --- PH'd down to 5.3 --- Sprayed top of cube a bit. --- I let thins soak for a bit. - [2300]: Flushed the entire rockwool cube with straight distilled water. --- Emptied and cleaned the tray. Rinsed with distilled water. --- Mixed some fresh tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 1 drop of CaliMagic --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH'd down to 5.5 --- Solution strength was at 154 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. Day 05 - Friday - 09/04/20 - Total Days: 33 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Checked the tray solution. --- PPMs were at 145 --- PH was at 6.2 --- Mixed some more tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 1 drop of CaliMagic --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH'd down to 4.2 --- Solution strength was at 155 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. - [0945]: Checked the tray solution. --- PPMs were at 180 --- PH was at 4.9 - [2300]: Not much change. --- Emptied and cleaned the tray. Rinsed with distilled water. --- Mixed some fresh tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow B --- Added 2 drops of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH was not adjusted at 5.8 --- Solution strength was at 504 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- No foliar spraying. Day 06 - Saturday - 09/05/20 - Total Days: 34 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Nice! I can see more growth! The tips are a bit yellow though. Do light burns heal? --- Checked the tray solution. --- PPMs were at 323 --- PH was at 6.5 --- Mixed some more tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow B --- Added 2 drops of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH was not adjusted at 5.7 --- Solution strength was at 433 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. - [0945]: Checked the tray solution. --- PPMs were at 431 --- PH was at 5.8 - [1630]: Checked the tray solution. --- PPMs were at 647? --- PH was at 6.3 --- Cleaned tray and mixed some more tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow B --- Added 2 drops of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH was not adjusted at 5.9 --- Solution strength was at 582 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Used some toothpicks as support legs to raise the cube a bit off the bottom. --- Debating if I should transplant tomorrow or wait another week. --- Modified shading setup a bit. Day 07 - Sunday - 09/06/20 - Total Days: 35 ----------------------------------- - [1000]: Aye looks like her leaves are perking upwards! --- Cleaned the tray and mixed some new tray solution. --- 100mL of distilled water. --- Added 2 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow A --- Added 2 drops of Sensi Grow B --- Added 2 drops of B-52 --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- PH was not adjusted at 5.8 --- Solution strength was at 566 PPMs --- Poured entire content into the tray. --- Went out and got a shade screen which I plan to hang under the light after transplant. - [1615]: Transplant Time! --- Tray PH was at 6.2 --- Tray solution strength was at 850 PPMs? --- Took her out of the tray and sat the rockwool cube aside. Still with the toothpicks. --- Cleaned the tray and put away. - [1630]: Cleaned the bucket. Rinsed with distilled water and scrubbed the bucket. Rinsed again. --- Rinsed the net pot with tap water. Set aside to dry. - [1645]: Boiled the hydroton and air stones in tap water. Rinsed with tap water. --- Boiled again but in distilled water. Rinsed with distilled water. --- Soaked hydroton in distilled water PH'd down to 5.0 and reconnected the air stones. - [1800]: Prepped a quarter strength nutrient solution mix. --- Filled the system with 3gal of distilled water. --- Turned the water pump and air pumps on. --- Added 12mL of Sensi Grow A --- Added 12mL of Sensi Grow B --- Added 12mL of B-52 --- Added 24mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 24mL of Sensizym --- Added 6mL of Hydroguard --- Added 6mL of CaliMagic --- PH was not adjusted at 5.5 --- Solution strength was at 670 PPMs --- Placed dry net pot in the bucket. --- Water level was about 1.5" from the bottom of the net pot. --- Added enough hydroton to fill the bottom of the net pot. --- Removed the toothpicks from the rockwool cube and placed her delicately on top of the hydroton keeping her as centered as I could. --- I then carefully filled the net pot with the rest of the remaining hydroton. --- Took a full syringe's worth of solution and top fed the base of the cube (about 10mL). --- It's pretty hot in California right now so having slight electrical issues. --- Because of this, I can't run the chiller without throwing my room's breaker. Thankfully it's not really affecting the rest of the houses electricity. Anyways, going to call the electric company after the holidays to see if I can upgrade my circuit breaker amperage for my room. --- Water temps are at 86 °F so hopefully the Hydroguard and Voodoo Juice will keep the algae slime at bay. Going to keep the pump water running to make sure it doesn't go stagnant in the tubes. [END OF WEEK 05]

Introduction - Week 06 Summary - Wow! This week for the most part went quite smooth! A few unexpected bumps, but I think she's looking great now! Called my local electric company and learned that they don't really send technicians out to service circuit breakers. I researched what it would take to change a breaker online and almost upgraded my circuit breaker to a higher amperage. However I later learned that was a really bad idea and could have caused the wires in the wall to overheat and possibly cause a fire. I guess breakers are rated for certain gauges of wire. So if I upgraded the breaker, I'd have to upgrade the wiring. Not going to upgrade my room's interior wiring. So no chiller. This was her first week in the bucket. The only difference was the increased concentration of nutrients along with higher reservoir temperatures. Had to keep the chiller off to keep the room's circuit breaker from tripping during this hot weather but was able to keep the water pump still on to ensure that there was no stagnant water in the tubing. On a more optimistic side, the great thing about this was that even with the higher temperatures (~78-86 °F), no slime! The enzymes and beneficial bacteria appears to have kept everything under control. She seems to be loving the new increased nutrients along with the reduced light levels! Decided to not use the drip ring at all and just top feed using a syringe. Next run already plan on using a new smaller net pot without a drip ring. Less is more I guess. Added more shade midway through the week, but later removed it to increase light levels towards the end of the week. Learned how delicate plant leaves are.. I accidentally damaged a leaf mid way through the week (Damn it...) but she seemed to recover quite nicely. Didn't really seem to slow down any growth. I think. She's already developing her 3rd set of leaves too! Discovered that I never received a bottle of Nirvana. Soo had to order another bottle. Stoner move... Since everything went so well without the chiller, during the end of week's res change, I opted to remove it completely. I really hope this was a good decision. Just going to keep an eye out for slime and refresh the enzymes/beneficial bacteria if more appears. [START OF WEEK 06] Day 01 - Monday - 09/07/20 - Total Days: 036 ----------------------------------- - [0915]: Checked bucket solution. --- PPMs were at 690 --- PH was at 6.7 --- Decided to PH down and going to ignore PPMs --- New PPMs were at 717 --- New PH was at 6.2 - [1930]: Checked bucket solution again. --- PPMs were at 687 --- PH was at 6.6 --- PH'd down again. --- New PPMs were at 712 --- New PH was at 5.8 --- Top fed with a syringe again. About 10mL Day 02 - Tuesday - 09/08/20 - Total Days: 037 ----------------------------------- - [0915]: Looking healthy! --- Oh no a spider! Had to kill it. Could find anymore. --- PH was at 6.2 --- PPMs were at 695 --- Added more enzymes and beneficial bacteria. --- Added 2mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 2mL of Sensizym --- Added 2mL of Hydroguard --- PH'd down again. --- New PH was at 5.8 --- New PPMs were at 706 --- Top fed with a syringe again. About 10mL - [1600]: Checked bucket solution again. --- PH was at 6.0 --- PPMs were at 648 --- PH'd down again. --- New PH was at 5.2 --- New PPMs were at 695 --- Top fed with a syringe again. About 10mL - [2130]: Looking good! --- Added a bit more shade to the screen in the form of a piece of cardboard. Day 03 - Wednesday - 09/09/20 - Total Days: 038 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Wow looking healthier! --- I think I saw a fly in the tent!? May have to start spraying neem oil soon. - [0945]: Damn it... If it's not one thing, it's another.. While lifting the basket out of the bucket to check the solution, the surrounding hydroton started to fill in around her (everything was sloping inwards already because of how low she's in the basket). As I was trying to dig her out, I accidentally tore one of her leaves... Damn it. Sorry girl. --- I checked the solution. --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 693 --- I was just too shocked by the accidental damage I caused that I just left her alone. No adjustments to the solution. No top feed neither. --- Going to be worrying about this all day now. Damn it. Please recover. --- Removed a bit of the hydroton. --- From now on, going to be extra careful when checking the PH/PPMs. Damn it Ensign. --- Also, going to use way less hydroton next time during transplant.. - [2200]: Well she's actually still growing! --- I checked the solution again. Very carefully.. --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 671 --- PH hasn't changed which is good. I think. --- PPMs went down a bit, but could have been a miss reading. I'll leave everything alone for now and check again in the morning. --- The damaged leaf is still mostly green. The piece that's hanging is starting to dry and yellow, but the rest still looks healthy and green. Poor girl. Day 04 - Thursday - 09/10/20 - Total Days: 039 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Nice! Still looking healthy! --- Damaged leaf still looking green too. --- Carefully checked the bucket solution. --- A bit of foam on the top of the bucket, but no slime! --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 695 --- Just going to leave everything alone again. --- Removed a handful of hydroton from the basket. --- Since the slime seems to be under control at these higher temps, I'm deciding on removing the water pump and chiller tubing all together. This would simplify things a bit in the bucket and will also save me a bit of electricity. - [2230]: Getting a bit taller! I think. --- More new leaf growth. Lower leaves seem healthy too. --- Carefully checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 694 --- Just going to leave everything alone again. But top fed 10mL of the solution. Day 05 - Friday - 09/11/20 - Total Days: 040 ----------------------------------- - [0900]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 711 --- Just going to leave everything alone. - [2145]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 695 --- Just going to leave everything alone again. --- She seems to be growing just fine. Even with the damaged leaf. Day 06 - Saturday - 09/12/20 - Total Days: 041 ----------------------------------- - [0900]: Wow she's growing! the new leaf growth is looking pretty good too! --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 712 --- Just going to leave everything alone. - [2145]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 731 --- PH'd down a bit. --- New PH was at 5.6 --- New PPMs were at 782 --- Did not top feed. --- To allow a bit more light, I removed the extra piece of cardboard from the shade screen. --- On a side note. *--Stoner face palm--* I realized that a bottle of Nirvana that I ordered a few months ago was never delivered. It was in a batch order of nutes so I must have overlooked it (also Nirvana is a more of a bloom nutrient so didn't really think about using it during veg). Going to contact the seller to see if anything can be done, but also ordering another bottle. Damn it Ensign.. Day 07 - Sunday - 09/13/20 - Total Days: 042 ----------------------------------- - [0800]: Reservoir Change Day! --- Checked the bucket's nutrient solution. --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 716 --- So first week in the bucket seemed to go quite well. At least better than the last seedling. --- Only have one root still but aye the little root got bigger! --- Going to up the nutes a bit more as per AN's instructions (BudLabs App). --- Also going to add a bit of Rhino Skin to this brew as well. Heard that silica will help to strengthen stems and promote more nutrient uptake. --- I hope the increased nutrients will help to boost growth without burning her. --- Since there was little to no slime this week, made a big decision to remove the chiller and will continue with the enzymes/beneficial bacteria treatments to control any bad algae/slime. - [0815]: Removed her from the bucket and placed her in an empty one while I cleaned and prepped everything. --- Drained the system. Rinsed a few times with distilled water. --- Disconnected and removed both the water pump and chiller along with all water tubing. --- Soaked everything except the chiller in bleached tap water (pump, tubing, and fittings). --- Since I could not really soak the chiller, I just filled it with some isopropyl alcohol. Plan on also filling with bleach/water solution later. --- Going to let everything soak for a day, then drain, rinse, and dry. --- This will definitely simplify things a bit without the pump and chiller. I like it! - [0830]: Disconnected and boiled the air stones in distilled water. Then rinsed with more distilled water. --- Scrubbed the bucket clean again and patched the holes from the removed water tubing with some aluminum tape. - [0845]: Time to brew up next week's nutrient solution! This will be week 2 in the bucket so going with half strength for the base and full dose of everything else. Going for a total of around 900 PPMs. --- Filled the system with 3gal of distilled water. --- Turned the water pump and air pumps on. --- Added 23mL of Rhino Skin --- Added 23mL of Sensi Grow A --- Added 23mL of Sensi Grow B --- Added 23mL of B-52 --- Added 23mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 23mL of Sensizym --- Added 6mL of Hydroguard --- Checked the PPMs and they were already at 920. --- Made a decision to not add any CaliMagic. There seems to be both calcium and magnesium in the base nutrients so hoping it's enough. --- PH was not adjusted at 5.5 --- Placed her back in the bucket. --- The water level was around 1.5" from the bottom of the net pot. May lower the water level a bit more in a day or so if more root growth appears. - [0945]: Top fed about 10mL of the new nutrient solution to the base of the stem. Looking a bit droopy, but still healthy. --- Going to check progress after lights out to see if any positive changes occur. --- Sweet dreams little one! - [1630]: Wow she's getting bigger! --- Have to say that I had doubts when I damaged her leaf earlier this week. My heart sank for a bit and I thought to myself, 'Damn it Ensign! Now I have to start yet another seed.' But I'm just stunned with her recovery and with the extra growth! --- Sorry for all the harm done girl. It's truly been a gnarly learning experience so far for sure. But very happy now that she is perky again! --- I'm trying to be more careful when handling her, but have to say that these plants can truly take a beating and still thrive! --- Checked the bucket solution. This is just after the night cycle. --- Aiming for a PH of 5.5 to 6.3 --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 880? --- 920 to 880 PPMs in just one night cycle? --- I'm thinking that the solution stabilized at the lower PPM. --- Or maybe she's starving for nutes? --- Hmm. Perhaps it could also be my inexpensive PH/PPM meters giving me false readings? I really hope it's not this. Funds are kind of low right now (too much smoking Ensign. ¯_(ツ)_/¯) so really not a good time to be spending cash on new equipment. Just going to assume for now that the pens are accurate. --- Not really sure. I'm going to leave everything alone for now and check later before adding more to the solution. - [1700]: Removed more hydroton to even out the grow medium to just about a thin layer above the rockwool. --- Can see the top row of holes but checked for light leaks in the basket and found none. Really glad I added that extra layer of aluminum tape to block out the top few layers of the basket. [END OF WEEK 06]

Introduction - Week 07 Summary - So I guess 920 PPMs is a bit too high during early stages of growth? Yep.. This week... I nutrient burned her. Well, pretty much the day after last week's reservoir change (9/14/20), I started seeing stunted growth and burnt tips but thought it was light stress. I also noticed a bit of foam, but that wasn't a big deal. It wasn't light stress, so I diluted the solution a bit by replacing about a third with distilled water. This sort of helped, but she was already pretty burnt by then. Ended up doing another reservoir change midway through the week to reset back to week 1 strength. But again, the damage was already done. I think the issue was that I was going with week 2 nutrient strength, but I should have kept it at the week 1 strength for another week or so. I was going by the time she's been alive rather than her overall growth mass. I guess the instructions are assuming ideal growth environment/development. So I now know that it's better to go by the growth instead of time. Supplemental note: This week I also got a refund for the missing bottle of Nirvana. I also ordered and received the replacement bottle as well. Nice! During the end of week reservoir change, I lowered the PPMs even more and increased the CalMag-to-base nutrient ratio. Please recover! [START OF WEEK 07] Day 01 - Monday - 09/14/20 - Total Days: 043 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Getting a bit taller! --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.2 --- PPMs were at 856 --- The solution has quite a bit of foam, but no slime! Not worrying because it's normal to see some foam when using Advanced Nutrients in a DWC system. The base nutrient along with a few secondary nutrients contain wetting agents. These can cause foam to develop in water that is oxygenated using air stones. --- The new leaves have edges that look a bit yellow but the PPMs have been steadily dropping. So just going to leave everything alone for now. If the yellowing gets worse, then I'll have to dilute the PPMs down. --- The yellowing edges could also be more light burn so I placed the piece of cardboard back on the shade screen to help block out more light again. --- Also raised the fan a bit off the ground so the air is now oscillating just above the top of the leaves. - [2200]: Okay so think she may be a bit stunted by the increased nutrients. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.4 --- PPMs were at 857 --- So prepped a bit of enzyme/beneficial bacteria water to flush the top root zone. --- Filled a cup with 500ml of distilled water. --- Added 8 drops of CaliMagic --- Added 1mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 1mL of Sensizym --- On a side note, received a refund for the missing bottle of Nirvana. Nice! - [2245]: Top fed 60mL of the solution. --- Dumped the rest into the bucket. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.2 --- PPMs were at 916! - [2315]: Removed 1gal of the nutrient solution. --- Added 1gal of straight distilled water. --- Checked the bucket solution again. --- PH was at 6.3 --- PPMs were at 524 --- Great! A bit low, but going to leave it at this level and hopefully she recovers and starts growing again. --- If things don't improve by tomorrow night, thinking of just dumping the entire bucket and going back to last week's nutrient ratio with a bit of Rhino Skin. Day 02 - Tuesday - 09/15/20 - Total Days: 044 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: Looking better I think. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.4 --- PPMs were at 540 --- PH'd down to 5.7 --- New PPMs were at 582 --- New grow looks better so going to let it ride. --- Bottom leaves are starting to dry. Could this be a nutrient deficiency? May add some CaliMagic later. - [2230]: Aye looking a bit better! --- Also received the replacement bottle of Nirvana. Great! --- Although her first set of leaves are really drying up. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.0 --- PPMs were at 563 --- Decided to add a bit of CalMag. --- Added 15 drops of CaliMagic --- Checked the bucket solution again. --- New PH was at 6.1 --- New PPMs were at 660 --- Top fed 10mL of the new solution. --- The bottom leaves are drying up even more now and it's kind of freaking me out. --- Should I just trim them off? --- It's probably too early for any kind of defoliation. --- Going to leave alone for now. Day 03 - Wednesday - 09/16/20 - Total Days: 045 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.2 --- PPMs were at 665 --- Did not adjust anything. --- Please feel better. --- Deciding on just dumping the entire solution and just starting over. - [2215]: Not much change. Although a bit taller I think. --- Those bottom leaves are continuing to dry up. --- Checked the bucket solution again. --- PH was at 6.3 --- PPMs were at 665 --- PH'd down to 5.5 --- New PPMs were at 689 --- No top feed. --- Even with the reduced levels, I'm pretty sure she's still suffering from nutrient burn. Day 04 - Thursday - 09/17/20 - Total Days: 046 ----------------------------------- - [0915]: Not looking really any different. Not worse, not better. --- Okay freaking out about the drying leaves. Resetting the reservoir! --- Emptied the bucket. No rinse, no scrub. --- I guess it has only been a few days, but without the chiller, the water already seems cleaner. --- Going to basically use the same brew as last week with a bit of Rhino Skin for a silica boost. --- Filled with 3gal of straight distilled water. --- Added 12mL of Sensi Grow A --- Added 12mL of Sensi Grow B --- Added 12mL of B-52 --- Added 12mL of Rhino Skin --- Added 23mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 23mL of Sensizym --- Added 6mL of Hydroguard --- Added 5mL of CaliMagic --- Checked the PPMs and they were at 590. --- PH was not adjusted at 5.7 --- Top fed about 10mL of the new solution. Day 05 - Friday - 09/18/20 - Total Days: 047 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.1 --- PPMs were at 603 --- PH'd down to 5.5 --- New PPMs were at 668 --- No top feed. - [2230]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.1 --- PPMs were at 668 --- PH'd down to 5.5 --- New PPMs were at 693 --- Top fed 10mL Day 06 - Saturday - 09/19/20 - Total Days: 048 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: New growth is looking okay. Still a bit wilted though. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 643 --- PH'd down to 5.5 --- New PPMs were at 721 --- No top feed. - [1615]: New growth is looking a lot better now! Bottom is still wilted though. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 670 --- Removed 2 cups of solution --- Added 1mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 1mL of Sensizym --- Added 2mL of Hydroguard --- New PPMs were at 672 --- PH stayed the same at 5.8 --- No top feed. Going to leave alone. Day 07 - Sunday - 09/20/20 - Total Days: 049 ----------------------------------- - [0830]: Okay time for a reservoir change! --- Decided to drop the PPMs more, but increase the CalMag-to-base nutrient ratio. --- After researching online for a bit, I think I've been underfeeding CalMag. So decided to change the way I mix my brews. Going to start with a base of CalMag first, then go from there (around 200 PPMs should be a solid starting point). --- Also, to better understand PPMs and which nutrients affect it the most, I'll be checking the solution as I add to the brew and will be mixing in order of importance. I probably should have been doing this from the beginning, but hey, I'm learning as I go. --- I'm dropping the overall PPMs a bit and going for a final solution strength of 500-530 PPM (CalMag + base nutes) - [0845]: Drained the bucket and gave it a quick scrub and rinse with distilled water. --- Placed her in a new bucket and flushed the net pot a bit with some straight distilled water (about a quarter gallon). - [0900]: Filled the bucket with fresh distilled water. Going to ignore PH for now, but will monitor PPMs closely. --- Filled bucket with 3gal of distilled water (18 PPMs) --- Added 6mL of CaliMagic (221 PPMs) --- Added 8mL of Sensi Grow A --- Added 8mL of Sensi Grow B (415 PPMs) --- Added 15mL of B-52 (501 PPMs) --- Added 24mL of Voodoo Juice (502 PPMs) --- Added 24mL of Sensizym (523 PPMs) --- Added 6mL of Hydroguard (524 PPMs) --- Added 8mL of Rhino Skin (526 PPMs) --- Checked the PH and it was at a perfect 5.5 so did not adjust. - [0930]: Top fed about 10mL of the solution. To reduce nutrient runoff mixing into the new solution, I top fed her in the same empty bucket she was flushed in earlier. --- I then shooked off any excess runoff and placed her back into the nutrient filled bucket. --- Sleep well little one. --- Not sure if I should be worrying about this but wanted to mention that I did notice a fishy algae smell from the bucket which contained the flushed water (and a bit of the top feed solution). --- Could this have stunted her as well? --- May have to do a more thorough flushing from now on. --- Maybe with some peroxide or H2O2? --- I'm not sure if the runoff from a peroxide flush to the roots would kill off the beneficial bacteria in the bucket so going to have to research this a bit more. --- Maybe a Hydroguard/Voodoo Juice/Sensizym flush or something similar? --- Going to leave this alone for now but will probably do another net basket flushing in a day or so. --- Anyways... Smoke a bowl Ensign. One problem at a time. - [1000]: Oh I did learn a lot about PPM concentration. --- CaliMagic, Grow A&B, and B-52 seem to affect PPMs the most (makes sense). --- While the rest seemed to not affect PPMs at all. --- Voodoo Juice and Hydroguard barely affected PPMs at all. Voodoo Juice which was mixed at 24mL and the PPMs only went up by 1. --- So based on PPMs, the solution's concentration is mainly comprised of about 200 PPMs each of CaliMagic and Sensi Grow A&B along with about 80 PPMs of B-52 (483 PPMs total). --- At a total of 526 PPMs, 25 PPMs is for all the enzymes/beneficial bacteria and silica (18 PPMs were already in the water to start). --- Fascinating. --- So CaliMagic, Sensi Grow A&B, and B-52 add up to about 37mL for a 3gal brew. --- The rest (Voodoo Juice, Sensizym, Hydroguard, and Rhino Skin) add up to 62mL --- So the main nutrients are about equal parts CalMag to base nutrients. Okay this makes sense. --- But the main nutrients comprise about a third of the total concentrated solution (37ml of 99mL total). --- The enzymes/beneficial bacteria/silica take up about 2/3 of the concentrated solution, but barely any PPMs (25 of 526 PPMs total). --- Still not entirely too sure what all this means but just going to let it ride. Probably will check again after the night cycle. Sleep well girl. - [1645]: Okay! Looking better! --- Still difficult to tell right now, but I'm liking the lowered PPMs along with the higher CalMag concentration. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PPMs were at 515 --- PH was at 6.0 --- I top fed again outside the bucket (about 10mL) before placing her back. --- Not going to use a top drip ring after this run. --- I think that bad bacteria is building up in the drip ring and could be infecting the solution it sits in. --- I've noticed that on occasion, just after lifting the basket out of the bucket, a brown slugged would trickle out of the tube. Could be nutrient solution, but looks too brown. --- Roots also look a bit brown, but her one root has thicken up a bit and looks healthier than before the reservoir change. Still no real root development yet, but I guess this is expected due to the heavy nutrient burn I gave her at the beginning of this week. [END OF WEEK 07]

Introduction - Week 08 Summary - Another week of stunted growth and disappointment.. Great. A bit of root growth but recovery was overall slow (if any at all)... Things just kept getting worse. So midway through the week I planted yet another seed in a rockwool cube.. Even removed some of the dying bottom leaves too, but that didn't help. At the end of the week I received a watt meter. Dimmed the light to the lowest setting to prevent any future seedling light burn. Also decided to skip on the reservoir change this week since it'd just be a waste of nutrients (which are getting noticeably lower now).. Damn it... Well this new seed will be my last attempt at this strain for now (may order more seeds later). If this fails, then going to have to end this grow log and call the mission a failure (but a learning experience none the less). Keep in mind that I went straight to hydro. Before this, I have never grown anything. Not outdoors nor in coco or soil. This is literally my first attempt at growing anything so I guess failure was pretty much inevitable.. As much as I want to succeed, I also understand that DWC is meant for experienced growers and not really recommended for complete and utter newbs like myself. And hey, even if I do fail at this journal, I still have two more feminized OG strains from the same seed bank (purchased the OG 3-pack from ILGM). So would then start a new grow diary using one of those (either Skywalker OG or Fire OG). Plus have feminized seeds from Seedsman too (Amherst Sour Diesel, two different kinds of OG Kush, and White Widow) which I can also consider for the next run. With all this being said, still not giving up on this run of OG Kush! [START OF WEEK 08] Day 01 - Monday - 09/21/20 - Total Days: 050 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Oh no! What the... Really yellowing now. --- Okay so maybe it's not nutrient burn/toxicity? --- Could it be a deficiency? --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was 6.7 --- PPMs were at 541 --- PH'd down to 5.2 --- New PPMs were at 563 --- Top fed about 10mL outside the bucket before placing her back in. - [0945]: Okay so this is freaking me out. What am I doing wrong? --- I could be experiencing a deficiency and have been making it worse by cutting the nutrients? --- Going to add more CalMag along with beneficial bacteria/enzymes to solution to help. I think. --- Added 1mL of CaliMagic --- Added 1mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 1mL of Sensizym --- Added 2mL of Hydroguard --- PH was at 5.3 --- PPMs was at 590 --- Top fed again about 10mL --- Feel better. Please. - [2100]: Okay so looking really bad now. Damn it.. --- After researching a bit more, I now really think I've been wrongfully diagnosing the situation. I am now pretty sure she is suffering from a deficiency. More specifically, a nitrogen deficiency. --- Going to test this theory by adding more CaliMagic. This will increase the PPMs, but that should be okay. If she has been suffering a deficiency and not a burn, then the higher PPMs should be okay. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.0 --- PPMs were at 593 --- Hmm. One of the air stones was not bubbling. I thought it was clogged, but the bucket was sitting on the airline (Damn it Ensign). Fixed the issue, but there are some slight signs of slime again. Adding a bit more Hydroguard to make sure it doesn't get worse. --- Added 2mL of Hydroguard --- Added 2mL of CaliMagic --- Checked the bucket solution again. --- PH stayed the same at 5.8 --- New PPMs were at 731 --- Top fed about 20mL before placing her back into the bucket. --- So PPMs are higher but the amount of available calcium, magnesium, and more importantly, nitrogen, has been increased as well. --- I really hope she shows some sign of recovery. Any sign that I'm doing something right.. This whole grow has been one challenge after another... --- All I can do now is hope for the best. Day 02 - Tuesday - 09/22/20 - Total Days: 051 ----------------------------------- - [0645]: Damn... --- Unfortunately I think this seedling is toast. There is no root growth. I've referenced DWC grows at similar stages of development and by now there should be more roots. --- I think the week 2 nutrient strength toasted the root zone.. Damn.. --- Going to try again... Okay! --- But this time not going to tray feed as long and will try to transplant as soon as possible. --- I will use the same week 1 nutrient strength that was working well plus a bit of silica. Then have her grow for a week or two at this level before even considering any kind of increase. --- Also will try not to damage early leaf growth... (Damn it) --- If I start now, I hopefully can get a transplant by the end of the week. --- Not going to remove the current seedling until the new one pops. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.2 --- PPMs were at 734 --- PH'd down to 5.5 --- New PPMs were at 757 --- Flushed the hydroton with a half gallon of distilled water. Then top fed 10mL of the bucket solution. --- Okay down to 2 more seeds.. --- One is a bit damaged, so I'll go with the healthier looking one (the darker one). - [0730]: Filled a measuring cup with 500mL of distilled water --- Added 1 drop of CaliMagic --- PH'd the solution down to 5.1 --- PPMs were at 48 --- Soaked the rockwool cube --- Cleaned and prepped the tray/dome. - [0800]: Checked the rockwool cube solution. --- PH was at 5.4 --- PPMs were at 60 --- Removed the cube from the solution making sure not to squeeze or shake any water out. --- Flipped the cube upside down and planted the new seed just above the surface. --- Sprayed both the tray and dome with distilled water. --- Temperature was at 78 °F - [2000]: Checked the bucket solution. No slime so that's good. --- PH was at 5.6 --- PPMs were at 734 --- Top fed 10mL of the solution. --- Dome and tray were mostly dried. Sprayed both with more distilled water. Day 03 - Wednesday - 09/23/20 - Total Days: 052 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Leaves are yellowing pretty badly. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 761 --- Top fed about 10mL before placing her back into the bucket --- Both the dome and tray were dry. Sprayed both with straight distilled water. - [2215]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.0 --- PPMs were at 732 --- PH'd down to 5.6 --- New PPMs were at 756 --- Mixed up some flushing water. --- Filled a measuring cup with 400mL of distilled water --- Added 1 drop of B-52 --- Added 1 drop of Hydroguard --- Added 1 drop of Voodoo Juice --- Flushed the top of the hydroton with the entire solution before placing her back into the bucket. - [+0100]: Okay so the bottom leaves were freaking me out. They were more than 75% yellowing and crisp. So decide to trim them off. --- Sterilized a pair of hand trimmers with isopropyl alcohol. --- Then very carefully clipped the leaves at the base. I ended up clipping her bottom 4 leaves. I was a bit surprised to see that the cotyledons were still green and healthy looking. --- Now she looks smaller, but taller. Day 04 - Thursday - 09/24/20 - Total Days: 053 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Nice! Without the dying bottom growth, she's at least looking better. --- I just hope that her remaining leaves don't get worse. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 781 --- Both the dome and tray were dry. Sprayed both with fresh distilled water. - [2215]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.0 --- PPMs were at 739 --- PH'd down to 5.4 --- New PPMs were at 768 --- Mixed up a stronger flushing solution with a bit of CalMag. --- Filled a measuring cup with 500mL of distilled water --- Added 1mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 1mL of Hydroguard --- Added 1mL of Sensizym --- Added 10 drops of CaliMagic --- PPMs were at 652 --- PH was at 5.6 --- Flushed the top of the hydroton with the entire solution before placing her back into the bucket. Day 05 - Friday - 09/25/20 - Total Days: 054 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Looking a bit better. But leaves are still yellowing from the tips. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.5 --- PPMs were at 730 --- Did not adjust anything. No top feed. --- The tray/dome were dry. --- Mixed up some Voodoo spray water. --- Filled a measuring cup with 50mL of distilled water --- 2 drops of Voodoo Juice --- 2 drops of Hydroguard --- Did not check PPMs but were probably pretty low. --- PH'd down to 5.3 --- Sprayed both the dome and tray. --- Also foliar sprayed the seeding in the bucket along with the top of the hydroton. - [2145]: Looking about the same. If not, a bit more yellowing on the leaves. --- Dome and tray was dry. Sprayed both with the Voodoo water. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 742 --- Added 1mL of CaliMagic --- PPMs went up to 837 --- PH dropped to 5.7 --- Top fed about 10mL before placing her back into the bucket. Day 06 - Saturday - 09/26/20 - Total Days: 055 ----------------------------------- - [0800]: Yep looking pretty stunted now. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 832 --- Did not adjust anything. --- Sprayed dome and tray with more Voodoo water (everything was dry already). - [2000]: Still no growth progress.. --- At this point, I probably won't be doing a reservoir change this week and will just wait until the new seedling sprouts. If she sprouts.. --- Mixed up more Voodoo water to flush the roots. --- Filled a measuring cup with 500mL of distilled water --- Added 1mL of Voodoo Juice --- Added 1mL of Hydroguard --- Added 1mL of Sensizym --- Then I used the entire solution to flush the hydroton in the basket. --- Mixed up more Voodoo spray water for the dome and tray. --- Filled a measuring cup with 50mL of distilled water --- Added 2 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 2 drops of Hydroguard --- Added 2 drops of Sensizym --- Then I poured the solution into a spray bottle and sprayed both the tray and dome. - [+0100]: Dome and tray were partially almost dry. Re-sprayed both again. Day 07 - Sunday - 09/27/20 - Total Days: 056 ----------------------------------- - [0900]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 832 --- Added distilled water to drop the PPMs. --- PH went up to 5.8 --- PPMs dropped to 768 --- Tray and dome were dry. Sprayed both with more Voodoo water. --- Going to end the current seedling probably today or tomorrow anyways.. - [1200]: Nice! Okay so ordered and received a wall outlet watt meter! --- Going to be able to dim the light down tonight. --- Thus the new seedling will be growing under a less intense light. This will hopefully eliminate the need for the hanging screen shader. I'll keep the shader on for now because the tray and dome are resting on it, but I'll remove it after germination. --- Couldn't find a lot of information on specific dimmer settings for the Mars Hydro TSW2000 so I'll have to wing it. Probably will take readings at both the maximum and minimum settings. Then I'll dim the light accordingly making further adjustments as needed. --- I did find light schedules and hanging height recommendations on the Mars Hydro's site, but without any specific dimmer settings. Going to have to assume the heights are based on factory settings: --- During seedling: --- schedule: 18/6 or 20/4 --- hanging distance: above 30'' --- During veg: --- schedule: 18/6 or 20/4 --- hanging distance: 18~24'' above canopy --- During flowering: --- schedule: 12/12 --- hanging distance: 12~18'' above canopy --- The confusing thing is that I'm already hanging the light 53" inches away from the top of the bucket (this is the highest I can raise the light in the tent and is already way more than 30") so I should already be at a safe enough distance/intensity. I haven't adjusted the dimmers so everything should be at the default light intensity. --- I think I'm going to leave the light height where it's at and just dim the intensity down. - [1615]: Time to dim things down a bit! --- Plugged in the watt meter and cranked up the each side to the max (there's a controller for each side of the light).I didn't have to crank them much, but had to use a screw driver, and had to go very slow because the screw doesn't stop at 100% and continuously loops from the lowest to the brightest (so as you increase the brightness, once it reaches 100%, a little bit more will drop it back down to the lowest setting). --- The meter was at 364.9W --- I then lowered both sides to the lowest setting --- The meter dropped to 102.4W --- I unplugged one side of the light and the meter read 50.6 (so about 51W for each side). --- I decided to leave it at this low setting for now. --- Tent temperatures already seem to be lower at this new setting. Plus the lower intensity is way easier on the eyes. Now I hope this setting is not too low. - [1645]: The dome and tray were not completely dry, but sprayed both with more Voodoo water. - [2130]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.0 --- PPMs were at 739 --- PH'd down to 5.4 --- PPMs went up to 768 --- Did not top feed. Introduction - Week 09 Summary - Her roots are just not growing. Not a lot of growth in her leaves neither which I assume is because of the lack of roots. But what ended this run was that the last rockwool cube for this strain did not sprout in over 10 days.. Mission failure... Since I no longer have any viable seeds of this strain (well I have one, but the shell is pretty pale in color and is soft when I squeeze it), I decided to end this journal a couple of days early. This way I can have an early start on the new grow dairy as well. Would've been incredible to have made it to harvest but I guess failure was always an option. Oh well! I tend to learn more from my failures than my successes anyways. Going to apply what I learned this time on the next strain: - Less is more. Less is more. and most importantly, LESS IS MORE! - Chiller was unnecessary for a single bucket grow. I have simplified the system by removing it. This will obviously raise water temps. So going to rely on beneficial bacteria and enzymes even more to keep the slime under control. - Also will be downsizing the net basket and removing the drip ring. This should reduce even more areas where bad bacteria and slime can form. - My light was way too bright for seedling growth. So I've dimmed the light all the way down which should eliminate any future light burn. - Nutrient solution's PPMs were also on average way too high. Next run going with the week 1 strength for more than a week (500-600PPMs). I am NOT going to increase the PPMs based on weeks. Instead I plan to adjust PPMs based on size and growth. I'll also try to increase the CalMag ratios overall a bit more while trying to keep the PPMs low. I'm still a bit confused on whether to adjust PH (while using 'PH perfect' nutrients) below a quarter strength. Not sure but I think the PH perfect technology only works at higher concentrations. Either way, I will continue to adjust PH if not between 5.5 - 6.3. Whelp. Time to end this log and begin a new! Sterilize and reset for a new (and hopefully a successful) grow! Next week I'll be attempting to grow some Fire OG from ILGM! - LLAP [START OF WEEK 09] Day 01 - Monday - 09/28/20 - Total Days: 057 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Checked bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 736 --- Did not adjust and did not top feed. --- Sprayed dome/tray with more distilled water. - [2245]: Dome and tray were dry. --- Mixed some Voodoo water. --- Filled a measuring cup with 100ml of straight distilled water (did not check PPMs). --- Added 4 drops of Voodoo Juice --- Added 4 drops of Sensizym --- Added 4 drops of Hydroguard --- Poured about half of this solution into the tray. Basically it was enough to create a pool of solution at the bottom of the tray yet not enough to reach the rockwool cube itself. Hopefully this will keep the humidity higher for longer. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.7 --- PPMs were at 713 --- Poured about half a gallon of straight distilled water (no PH adjustments/no nutrients) to flush out excessive mineral build up on the hydroton and root zone. Did this of course in another bucket. Then I placed her back in the bucket with the nutrient solution. --- Supplemental note: Because of the lower light intensity, tent temps have dropped a bit. Raised the AC and exhaust fan to 78°F --- During the bucket solution check, I noticed a bit of brown build up on the down-stem of the drip ring. But I managed to rinse this off with a bit or distilled water during her flushing. --- Once the new seedling sprouts (well it's almost been a week now so I guess IF she sprouts..) going to change out the net basket completely. Going to reduce the size to a 6" net pot with no drip ring. --- Less is more, so I hope the smaller net pot means less room for bad bacteria growth (less hydroton so less room for build ups to occur). Also no drip ring for pretty much the same reason. Day 02 - Tuesday - 09/29/20 - Total Days: 058 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Progress has halted. Pretty much no growth.. --- Since unfortunately I'm pretty sure this is the last week for this log (doubtful that the seed will sprout), just going to do basic checks with minimal adjustments. --- Sunday will be a sterilization of the bucket and tent for the new grow! --- Going to start a new journal with a new strain (most likely Fire OG from ILGM). --- Checked solution. --- PH was at 5.8 --- PPMs were at 714 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with fresh distilled water. - [2330]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 730 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with more distilled water. - [2345]: Decided to put the table back in. This raised the bucket closer to the now dimmed light. --- Distance between light and top of bucket is 29" which is a bit close, but should be fine with the lower intensity. Day 03 - Wednesday - 09/30/20 - Total Days: 059 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 731 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with distilled water. - [2330]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 710 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with more distilled water. --- There was quite a bit of salt build up on the hydroton. So poured about 1/2 gal of straight distilled water to help flush it out. Day 04 - Thursday - 10/01/20 - Total Days: 060 ----------------------------------- - [0930]: Bottom leaves are crispy. --- Also rockwool cube shows no sign of sprouting (9 days since initial planting). --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 712 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with distilled water. - [2300]: Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 6.0 --- PPMs were at 731 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with straight distilled water. Day 05 - Friday - 10/02/20 - Total Days: 061 ----------------------------------- - [0945]: No new growth.. --- I'm pretty sure the rockwool cube is a dud too.. Going on 10 days now. --- Really depressing to see... Thinking of aborting this run early to reset and start the new grow earlier.. Maybe even tonight. --- Checked the bucket solution. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 710 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with distilled water. - [2215]: Okay! Aborting this mission early and starting fresh a run tomorrow morning! Going to let the air stones run overnight but I turned off the light to save on the electricity. --- PH was at 5.9 --- PPMs were at 712 --- Tray and dome were dry, so sprayed both with distilled water. Day 06 - Saturday - 10/03/20 - Total Days: 063 - END ----------------------------------- - [0915]: Okay time to end this run.. Resetting for the Fire OG grow! --- Did not bother taking bucket readings... - [0930]: Cleaned the tray/dome with soap and tap water. Then rinsed with a bit of distilled water. --- Checked the rockwool cube and dug out the seed. The seed did break open. But didn't really grow from that point on. --- Not sure what happened. Sorry girl. RIP. - [0945]: Boiled both the air stones and hydroton in a pot of tap water. Drained and set aside to dry. - [1000]: Drained the bucket. As I was draining, I did notice a foam/film on the top of the water. Not sure why, but thought I'd mention it. But no slime! --- Cleaned bucket with soap and tap water. --- Removed the tubes and fittings from the bucket. --- Throwing out the old air lines and will cut new ones for the next grow (at least the lines inside the bucket). --- Soaked the bucket fittings and water fill tube (the blue tube that's used to measure the water level) in bleach water. Going to flush with tap then distilled water. I'll let dry them dry completely for a few days to allow for any bleach residue to break down into inert components (water and oxygen). --- Well like the last one, while emptying the net pot, I check on the seedling's roots. They didn't stink and looked okay. Just really short. It's as if all root growth (except for the tap root) just stopped growing past the net pot.. RIP --- Maybe it's the Sensizym dissolving the young roots past the net basket before they can fully develop? Looking through grow diaries that use the same nutrient line and none have used Sensizym this early in the grow. So I think I'm going to cut Sensizym (or reduce it by a lot) and will only add if slime returns. --- --- I will however continue using the Rhino Shield (at a lower dosage) because it doesn't affect PPMs too much while promoting more nutrient uptake. I will also be mixing this in first from now on instead of adding it last. --- --- Also, to all experienced DWC growers who happen to stumble upon this journal and wants to help me out with constructive advice and/or thoughts about this grow, please feel free to comment and I'll try to respond back. Thank you! --- --- Well that's about it for this grow journal. Learning from my mistakes while continuing to trek on! --- --- There will be no further log entries. --- --- LLAP. 🖖 Day 07 - Sunday - 10/04/20 - Total Days: N/A ----------------------------------- - [MISSION ABORTED] - [END OF WEEK 09]
