What is your security/safety backup for fire hazard in case of exhaust system failure. (those Chinese fans you know they will break it is only a matter of time right?)
Both plants are doing great! I feel growth will soon start to explode as side branches are coming out nicely this week! So far they do not show much sativa traits but next set of leaves should be. Using wind stress to keep them short, and keeping the 6500k CFl for extra blue spectrum also. QB is the main light source. Seeds were started on July 27th, making it 22 days from seeds. Always been a coco guy, I can already see the difference between organic living soil. Watering every 3-4 days with rain water or lake water.
Plan is to vedge 2-3 more weeks so I can top them and have about 6 main each. In case they try to outgrow my setup I have a second complete same kit ready to rock.
What a slow week it was! Both plant are at least a week behind what I usually see. Good thing is mad stretching is not happening right now and I have 4 nodes at 3.5 inches. So I am getting rid of the small fan blowing straight at the girls and now have an oscillating fan blowing gently one foot above the canopy. Got 1st plant stunted a bit because of over watering. This is NOT like coco coir! I will have to keep my expectations lower in terms of rapid growth. Saw signs of early N deff so I am transplanting in those huge 15 gal fabric pots. 2nd plant catches up as new set of leaves was more developed, just before I topped them both. I will see how those plants are light sensible now vedging with about 350w of lm301b. So new setup this week.
Update: This is 1 month from seeds. I just wrote to the breeder because they specifically says to start 12-12 from seeds or flip at 14 days to avoid ending up with monsters. Looking at those small baby plants I just don't know what to do..
ACE team member contacted me and ask for information about my setup. Basically got told that the slow start was caused by topping, wind stress and low wattage CFL. Got told to give them strong light. They were really fast to answer and provided 1st class customer service. Thank you ACE!
Well It is not going as expected. Plants are alive and seems happy, but not growing like sativas. They are short and bushy and leaves do not show typical sativa strain traits. Still have hope for these girls. Following ACE seeds recommendations I keep them under strong light. They sits under 480w of lm301b, 24hrs a day 7 days a week and take it like it's some CFL! Like I said last week, I am giving them a last week of vegetation and I will flip.
Beside that I am giving them a corona beer metal bucket each (looks like some 1.5gal...) of rain water every 4-5 days to keep medium moist all around and plants do not show signs of over or under watering.
Grow Girls Grow!!
Well, this is time to flip! They are far from what I'd like them to be, and never taught I had to vedge them for so long. However, I did saw a journal here of ACE's Malawi with Dr Grinspoon and the guy had a fantastic grow. His Malawis were still pretty small when he flipped. So I hope mine will explode in next 3 weeks. I am putting them in the dark tonight and will turn lights on Wednesday at noon. Light cycle will be 11-13 so from noon to 11pm.
I am adding a 600w HID because plant did not show signs of any light stress from 24-7 of 480w leds. Starting with a MH bulb I will swap it for a HPS in a few weeks. This should push the plants a little more. Also add an other intake fan to make sure temps stays cool. Best I can do for now is 80F but as temps gets lower outside I will be using it to cool the room where the tent is.
Let's hope for the best and be ready for some LST in next days, weeks.
Cheers!
You can re-veg her. Takes her long to flower. Revenging is no issue.
Pre-flowered buds will turn to leave and later small useless branches. These will need to be trim off.
Good luck
This is my worst grow ever. Everyday, when I open the tent end look at the girls I feel pissed off and discourage. What am I gonna yield? An 8th??? Wish ACE was here to explain what the fuck is going on. Tallest plant is 6 inches and they are 7 weeks of vegetative plus 7 days after flip. I have been growing for 5 years. All I can think is bad genetics. I am turning down one of the 240w QB and will be using the second one for next crop. Just a waste of light with such small plants.
I started an other journal with a Malawi and a Killer A5 Haze of same breeder. I am changing of medium using ProMix for this one. Will also start with minimal lightening and try to have them stretching a bit.
Looks like they are starting to grow a bit. Everyday I look closely and hope for more time before flowers appears.
I try to stay positive about the growth.
This is day 67 from seeds, and day 19 since flip. Did some LST on pheno 1 to open the plant. It is larger than high but still growing a bit. Pheno 2 is more columnar type. Fan leaves coming out of main stems are not branching out and this should produce long, huge colas. (on larger plant, mine is 12 inches tall!) This is a very desirable traits and I might consider a revedge I'll see with the outcome. Both started showing pre flowers couple days ago and are now blooming.
This is now a HPS growth. Both plants have now fully stopped to grow. I did remove a few leaves to open up some bud spots. I am super excited about pheno 2 witch is very columnar and fast flowering. I will do my best to revedge and clone her. Still a long road to go for both.
Alright just cruising along watering once a week will be the standard. Pretty easy and idiot proof, gotta love organic living soil for that. Still adding a little bit of Epsom salts and watering till I am just about to see run off. About 1.5 gal. I removed a few more leaves in bottom and staked pheno 1.
All plant received a tea made with the gaia power bloom. Fungus gnats seems to have adopted pheno number 2 and her small root ball is in danger. Beneficial nemathodes are on the way and I can't wait to release them in the soil and watch the population die.
I have some amber hair on pheno 2 and was shocked to see cloudy thrichs. This is a very bad news as buds did not swelled up. Gotta admit that everything on this plant is bonzai size so what can I really expect? ...Definitively under an height.
Both plants are ripening slowly but surely and look tired. All trichomes have been milky for a few weeks. I think this is the beginning the harvest window. I will harvest when some trichs turn amber or if they start to degrade.
Pheno 1 is almost ready to chop. I am giving her an other week because I think she can push it a little more. Smell is like incense (really!! like you rub the stem a bit and it smells like the real incense!), sweet and lemony. It looks killer. She will be going for a re-vedge.
Pheno 2 is a few weeks behind. It smells a bit rotten and might be good but I am looking at about 2 grams (yes 2 g. !!!) I don't really care anymore she's still alive but not a priority for me.

-this is a 10 stars strain, first rating cannot be changed.
Phenotype 1: This one was very Sativa while growing. Very narrow finger leaves with long internodes. At harvest time, the smell was sweet, lemony, with a hint of oil. Once dried, it reminds me old school C99 and Jack H. Very nice smell. As it is curing, tne nutty taste takes over (hazelnut, roasred peanut). Buds are covered in small trichomes, airy, light green with deep orange pistils. Plant was not grown in optimal conditions as it was so small.
Smoke test was perform in morning with about 0,75g. of buds rolled in joint.
At the very first hit I felt deep intense effect. Warm in the eyes, the front of the head. After the 3rd hit and so, feelings were already intense like I usually get from a joint of top shelf dispensaries. It has very fast onset. Smoking the rest of the joint was hard. But I did what I had to do!
Taste is tropical fruits and nuts (hazelnut). Smoke is deep, rich and creamy, leaving a coaty feeling around your lips.
Effects are not on the 'Energetic-creative' spectrum. Effects are warm with a mix of deep head and body. At first you feel the psychedelic effects: your brain is slower than eyes, feeling a bit disoriented, eyes get to focus on things while the rest feel distorted. I over did it and should have ate before, feeling a bit of nausea. Effects are powerful and a bit sedative, feeling focused and lost. Very trippy like if you over do-it on edibles. When ACE says don't drive under this they are right on and spot on. I am gonna have to try with a redbull (or coffee for those who likes it...) to get more intense effects and get moving.
So not a day smoke. Feelings are intense but very enjoyable. Not for beginners.
Phenotype 2: Sample test was done in same conditions as the other one. Effects happened to be very similar but a little less physical-narcotic. Taste and appearance are hard to describe and enjoy as it was a 2 gram harvest and half of it is stem and branches.
I really recommend this strain. Don't be intimidated to grow a sativa landrace indoor in tent. Do not follow the breeder's advice to flower plant from seeds or as soon as clone as rooted. Also this strain does not require extra lightening standard 35-50 watts of HID or high end LED per sq. foot is perfect. Just like with other strains more watts will require CO2 supplement for the plant to use it. I tried it. Too much light (75+ w. per sq ft) is lowering growth rate.
Strain is resilient to heat and dry air.
I am trying to choose from the emoticon bellow to describe the high but non of them really apply.
Both plants had problems in vedge and stayed pretty small. (Not what I planned at all!!) It is hard for me to judge the strain because some mistakes I've made were my fault while some others were instruction told by the breeder. I will make a more accurate report after my next run currently in middle of flowering. But so far overall, the breeder is over rating is own strain as far of stretching and light needs.
Good news is the quality is there and the buds from the phenotype 2 are some of the frostiest I have grown, not what I expected from a landrace. The resin production was good on both pheno as well. They both were very sativa with very narrow leaflets. The smell of first plant is very close from a classic Cinderella 99, lemony, sweet but narcotic. Pheno 2 stayed very columnar and have a rotten smell. Both phenotypes shows great potential and I will attempt a revedge for first one.
I'm very happy to see a well detailed and so spot on review about it.So spot on mate! What you describe there is what ACE also says.I haven't tried Malawi before but I think I get that feeling. That narco buzz! As for effect smileys,I told GD about this many times before both in private message way and in public discussions, they said it was a great idea but they still did nothing.I care about it because I want to express exactly the feelings I get from my weeds but them icons are very basic and don't even match the high I get from ACE strains.I understand what you mean there. If my Panama was grown under cooler conditions,I'm sure it would have felt like that.I know because what is left off it is the biggest rocket bud which was the closest to the light and it gives more potent high than the rest of the plant.Great to see another fantastic strain review, enjoy your weed.Quality over quantity.I believe the other grow is going to finish bringing much more yield.
@sativaman, they tend to herm due to landrace origins.I've had them with ACE strains.I don't think 25mins power outage would make them herm.My grow room is around 15C at night time for plants. What I can say is ACE's strains are hardier than any hybrids out there,in my humble experience.
@HighRoller909, Just went to get some CalMag. What a catastrophe scenario to come back with a power outage in middle of day time cycle! My guess is it lasted between 15-25 mins as some grow light in my house were still hot but flower tent had reached night temp. A good test for ACE genetic let's see if they hermie out!
@sativaman, I never went pure organic but I'm hoping to do so in future.I'm currently aiming for yield, that's why sticking with Plagron.Awesome nutrients. But yeah I use GHE's Calcium Magnesium supplement. It works.Right now I see very little rusty spots on some of the fan leaves but very few.Increased the dosage to 1.5ml , I'm giving them tap water. It works in coco, should work in hydro as well.
What a shitload of shit is this amazon bought Super Soil! N and P deff crawling up on those small seedings in 15gal watered with rain and lake water is unacceptable! Feels like I sold my soul to to the devil au revoir Organic bye bye just top dressed with GAIA GREEN POWER BLOOM at manufacture recommendation. Hops THIS can put a STOP at those uninvited deficiencies.
@sativaman, never buy soil from Amazon. Coco brick on sale maybe.
The best media is coco.
You can amend it with dry organic amendments like dr earth and research the rest. You can top dress or use liquid ferts from there.
Coco holds water and oxygen doesnt block roots.
Supersoil is hot and anything with too much organic is mushy crap ure roots have to work to loosen.
Coco trust me.
This is 1 month from seed and this strain is already a test of patience for me! It is barely impossible for me to run close to VPD because of ACs in my home and air exchange in my tent. Malawi is a 2 season country with wet and dry season. Assuming it grows in dry season (need sun right??) it should be OK in low RH... Still I will do my best to raise humidity in next 2 weeks. Now I really hope for some form of stretch or branching out untypical to regular hybrid. However if it stays that small I am flipping in 2 weeks.
2 seeds one strain. 2 seeds out of the 3 pack are very small. Took the biggest. Will be in vedge with a Super Malawi haze than it will be removed and flowered in a second tent.
edit: Super Malawi Haze never sprouted
@HighRoller909, I will try to stay humble and honest. They were poorly vedge and got stunted due to magnesium deficiency. This is my first time in soil usually running with Canna coco. As I was vedging under 480w of QB the plant showed signs of light overwork and stress witch I mislead for N and K deficiency. All the plant really needed at the time was some magnesium (Epsom Salts here.)
When I contacted ACE team they told that Malawi is a vigorous strain that need more lights so I threw in a 600w MH but in my case more light stunted the plant even more.
In a previous growth I had some Northern Lights pheno that really exploded after flip so despite they were stunted I flip because I was scared to run out of space (!!!!)
Only good thing is I now have more bigger ACE plants ( an other Malawi and a Killer A5 ) that just joined those two in the flowering tent. They WILL BE HUGE!!!
I see you are having to cart water from that Big Lake
You could grab a 12v Freshwater submersable pump ran off of a car battery or something and pump into a Larger
tank maybe ?? I dunno what your situation is there but I know that with my Bad back carting buckets of Water all day would get Old Fast
@sativaman, Yes mate I do have a little experience The main reason people get deficiencies is
because the soils Ph is way out of whack from the water they are using
That water from the lake would be ideal because it would be full of natural minerals etc
just would be handy to test the ph
Beautiful work!
Useful information, thank you!
I am thinking of growing a real sativa indoor (hydro dwc + led) this summer and am hesitating between ace seeds malawi, or golden tiger (or one of them crossed with Panama) or the a5 or congo... its so hard to choose! I am basically looking for the most distinct sativa effect, I have nearly only grown modern hybrids so far.
Good luck with your garden 👍👊
Hi again mate May I suggest not vegging them for too long because they may get too big for your tent when
the flowering starts they can triple in size 👍
