👉 My wife told me all my Diaries are probably dissmissed as TLDNR by most of the growers on here. Thats' OK. I do this diary for me and those who are weed nerds like me.
👉This is the last seed of the 4 I received from Herbie's Head Shop of the Blow Mind Auto (Now called Sweet Amnesia Haze Auto) by Sweet Seeds. It has emerged a tap root and was placed in the media on 8-2. This was day 3 from placing in germination water. I'm excited about growing a Sweet Seeds strain.
👉 I will be doing Frequent Fertigation. Frequent Fertigation is giving the plant nutrients at optimum levels at a minimum of 2xs a day. The input nutrient solutions are mixed using the General Hydroponics Flora series full line of nutrients and mixed using the Drain to waste feed charts. Here is a link to that chart: https://gh.growgh.com/docs/Feedcharts/GH_FloraSeries-DTW_03216am.pdf My target pH is 5.8-6.0. My EC target is the upper end of the recommended range on the feed chart. I use RO water produced by an industrial grade machine I have access to but not at my residence. I mule the water in 2 6 gallon water carriers. This water is usually less than 5pH and averages 7microsiemens of EC. I have 2.5 gallon dispensers and mix each batch for 2 gallons mix level. The extra 1/2 gallon has proven to be the right amount to make upper level EC ranged solutions. Without that extra 1/2 gallon the solutions are usually over the limit. To get to the point where I knew 1/2 gallons extra would be enough, I mixed tons of batches with one or two gallons and then added water to weaken the solution EC to the desired range. The EC of the source water determines the final amount of water needed to weaken the mix solution to be in range.
Frequent fertigation is a labor intensive technique. Feeding at every irrigation event. This will not work in soil. Its a technique perfect for Coco Coir. I grew in collage in the 80s and experimented one plant with just clay pebbles. I liked the idea of a hybrid hydroponics/soil techniques. But that was my only serious grow till now because the risk of doing an illegal grow was too great for me. When legal growing a reality, I did lots of research on what methods I wanted to use. I dont like following the crowd, so when I cam across Dr Coco and the website Coco For Cannabis, I knew this was for me since I had done something similar 40 years ago.
Frequent Fertigation keeps coco coir at optimum levels of of pH and nutrient EC to maximize the plants ability to metabolize the nutrients. 2xs is the minimum number of events per day. If I had time for 3 or 4 I would try it, but without automation I simply dont have the opportunity to do more than 2x's a day. This has worked so far on all my plants. My results have been excellent and are far and away above the average plants that you find on this site. I will detail this method throughout this diary and will be happy to answer questions. I believe this technique is perfect for growing larger than the average plants and making lots of good big buds. I prefer autos for the longer light schedule and the low risk of after dark light exposure issues.
👉The plant is in a 3 gallon pot filled with 2.5 gallons of Coco Coir and 1/2 gallon of expanded clay pebbles. This is 1/2 the amount of clay pebbles I have used in the past (normally 1/3 total volume). Not much data on expanded clay pebbles for coco beside just following the typical 1/3 total volume like the amount of perl-lite most use. I don't like per-lite for personal reasons...it is soft and can crush, its small, and the per-lite on the surface of plants I grow indoors or out, have algae grow on it, pebbles do not.
👉 Mars Hydro TS 1000 lights turned up full, so approximately 150watts. I may ad one more light to this plant later.
👉 To germinate I used a pH balance H2O solution with H2O2 added. I mixed 1 pint of water with 100ml of household (3%) H2O2. at 18hours I placed the seed in a black plastic container with a top, not air tight. Instead of paper towels I used a cellulose/cotton sheet cut to fit the container. I moistened the sheet with the H2O/H2O2 mixture. The area the seed germed in was about 77-78F (my entertainment center). The tap root emerged within 24hrs and I left in the container for 24hrs and placed in the media on day 3 just before doing this entry. I placed a plastic cup over the seed site.
👉To prep the media I mixed 2.5 gallons of Coco with 1/2 gallons of expanded clay pebbles. I did this two weeks ago and have been rinsing the media daily with 1.5 liters of pH 6.4 pH .4ec water. I check the run-off to make sure the media is ballanced and buffered with no residual salt etc from the coco production.
👉Been 10 days since the first entry. Today is Day 11 and the seed has barely emerged from the media and is almost in suspended animation. I used a magnifier to get a closeup look and thought the seed shell could be hindering it. Using tweezers I was able to remove the seed shell halves easily, so that wasn't it. The cotyledon seemed to be wrapped tightly by the seed coat (thin membrane that surrounds the seed in the shell. I had left the plastic cup over the seedling and the surface stayed moist, I was afraid mildew could start growing there so on day I I started uncovering it for a few hours during the day and over night and kept it moist with a solution of hydrogen peroxide and the seedling solution. I inspected the seed coat around the cotyledon with a magnifier and used tweezers to try and dislodge the seed coat membrane on Day 8. I was able to move the membrane from the underside, but didn't push my luck because I would have had to apply a little more force and that could have uprooted the fragile baby. Today is day 9 and the cotyledon hasnt budged to open up, but it has turned green and the stem looks healthy, I will continue letting the seedling do the majority of the work to free itself from the seed coat, and inspect it closely. I hope it breaks free soon, otherwise this grow is doomed. I have had seed coats hinder cotyledons from opening before, but this one is the most stuck yet.
👉 I Started saturating the media with the week 1 schedule for seedling nutrients on the General Hydroponics drain to waste feed chart. I saturate the media to keep it in the proper pH range and to keep it moist and fresh. I reduced the pH to 6.3 to start dropping the medias pH from totally buffered range of 7pH that I prepped the media with, to eventually 5.8 target when/if the seedling becomes a youngster.
👉I finally coaxed the seed coat off by using tweezers and a magnifier. I had been keeping it moist and finally it separated and the cotyledons were able to start spreading. It already had the first set of leaves formed yet very tiny. During the week is has slowly grown and has two sets of leaves now. The cotyledons quickly yellowed and withered once the leaves started taking over. This is the longest germination for me yet.
👉Have been keeping the media moist and trying to buffer the run-off down to 6.0. With warmer days the house AC has run more and the air is a little dryer so the pH has stayed at 7.0. The run-off volume has also decreased. The coming week I will be starting 2x a day fertigation solution. I will gradually increase the solution strength over a few days.
👉I was still unsure if this seedling would take hold and take off when I updated last week. But it has done just that, taken hold and taken off. But it wasn't without a near death experience for this little seedling. Day 17 I notice some grey fuzzy on the stem where the cotyledons had withered. I made a solution of h202 and droppered it on the grey pestilence. I let it sit for about 20 minutes. The problem was that there was zero stretch when it emereged the media. I dont get much stretch normally but this was less probably due to the struggle it had shedding the seed coat. So I excavated a bit of the surface of the media out of the pot. I may take a little bit more in the next week because the media is still loose and flows around the surface. I want to give the base a little more space. Anyway...after treating the fuzzy evil parasites with H2O2, I used tweezers to sort of scrape the area (very small), then I droppered ph'ed ultra pure water (.017ec) on the the seedling and propped it up with a clay pebble. Then I fertigated it with the week one solution mixed per the schedule on the General Hydroponics drain to waste feed chart. I also swapped out the oscillating fan I had for the plants with a 16" fan that has a nice low speed perfect for the plants and has more overall movement than the Lasco oscillating mini tower I was using. The next day ( day 18 it was looking unscathed and had shown some growth. I began two a day fertigation events and the plant has responded!
👉The plant has made massive change in the last 10 days when compared to day 18 on the last update. Today is day 26. It doesnt have a perfect form, but it has started showing that amazing growth spurt that is like momentum, the bigger the leaves get the faster the leaves get bigger and the faster the new growth forms. Its all part of the magic of cannabis.
👉I switched to week 2 solution mix with todays second fertigation event and expect to see more magical gains in green as the week progresses.
👉Been a great week for this plant! Has just taken off, developing a nice thick main stem, and increased in size all the way around. It didnt get much stretch so I am slowly excavating the surface to get it a little more distance above the media. The plant not only has taken off above the surface, the roots have take off and are starting to poke out at the base of the plant.
👉I used week 2 nutrient mix on the GHE Drain to waste feed chart, mixed at the middle of the recommended range. The plant responded by growing with much alacrity. The run-off EC has been lower than inflow. I'll be switching to week 3 during the coming week. The pot has that annoying coating of green algae. I have been remediating it with a pressurized tank filled with an H2O2 solution, and wiping with wash cloths. Once the plant gets a bit bigger and drinking more then the algae will subside. The algae isn't a real issue unless it gets thick.
👉Good week for the plant. First pistols have been sighted and are now all over. It has doubled in height and put on a little bit of a stretch. The plant had a slow start but I think it has recovered and is back on track to make some good big buds. I had put a new oscillating fan that is bigger than its predecessor. I moves more air, but is a little stronger at its lowest speed. When the plant started stretching the breeze seemed a little too strong to me, so I used an old laundry basket as a wind diffuse. The leaves are getting bigger and as they grow the overall plant grows. This is the time when the changes noticed from the last inspection are very noticeable. I have moved the light to 24".
👉Ive kept to the early growth mix recipe on the General Hydroponics Drain to Waste nutrient feed chart. Volume of solution at each event is still the minimum of 1.5L. The run-off hasnt spiked and as the plant got bigger the EC of the run-off has dropped. I have done one low EC event and one H2Only event, both followed buy regular EC solution. The surface of the media is still loose, but the roots are noticeable on the surface and they are sticking out all over the bottom 3" of the pot. For the coming week I will probably stay with the Early growth recipe.
👉The plant has doubled in size since last week. Today is Day 46 and is Day 10 of flower. The growth rate has surprised me, and the branched are spreading out. The buds sites are starting to form up. The way the way the branches look they wont be stout and sturdy like the tent mate Gorilla Glue. There is slight clawing of leaf tips and signals slight excess N or excess wind, or excess moisture. Its a nice light green color with nicely formed fat leaves.
👉Last week the plant was using the early growth mix from the GHE drain to waste feed chart. I started this week by going to the transition mix, and by day 45 I switched to the Early bloom mix. I did 3 low EC fertigations and one H2Only event. I also tried scaling back the total volume of solution. I still have a few slightly 'clawed' leaf tips so I think what ever was causing that may be subsiding. The low EC, and the H20nly fertigation events hopefully helped with possible N excess, and the low volume events were to possibly address any excess moisture issues. Normally Coco coir is almost impossible to over water. But I cut back on the filler from 33% to 10%. So its possible the media holds enough moisture to create slight over-saturation. I address the possibility that wind is causing the claw tips by diffusing the fan breeze. I used a portable window screen suspended from the top and that has reduced the force of the fan. I may remove the speed controls of the fan and replace them with a variable speed controller. While putting one on now would work, it would create a loud hum because the speed control of the fan is done with capacitors, and a variable resitor causes this hum. While it may not be anything more than annoying, noises emanating from electronics that are normally quiet, is never a good thing. Its easy enough to do for me and I am full qualified to service any eclectrical or electronic device.
👉 Im sure the branches will need support when good big buds start forming. The stiff wires that stick up around the pot are the cut off top of a tomato cage. The hoop fits perfectly around the 3 gallon pot and provides stability for the pot before the roots fill it up. The 3 wires sticking up are the attachments I will use for Bamboo steaks. I zip ties them to the wires and interconnect each one for stability. I will probably ad those this week before the plant gets too tall.
👉Its been 11 days since the last update. Busy and stuff. Next update will be a shortened one to get back on the time line.
👉The plant has exploded in the flower stretch during this 11 day period. Its filled up its corner of the 4x4 tent and is looking like its gunna be a crazy plant. I hope its tent mate, the GG will finish in the next two weeks because tending to the plant will be much easier when its out of the tent. The pace at which its progressing is a little surprising and in spite of its lengthy germination, its back o track to match its age. I have removed most of the secondary branches from the main branches on the lower parts of the plant. It isnt as leafy as its tent mate. The branches started the flower stretch looking like they me be wimpy and need lots of support. But as they stretched they also gained some muscle. The branches when laden by buds may still need support, but still better that I first thought they would be like.
👉I moved to the week 6 solution mixture from the GHE Flora Series Drain to waste feed chart. I will be keeping that mix till the net update since it will be a shortened week. The plant has been absorbing more solution each day until it where I am now giving it 3l per fertigation ever (2x a day, 6l total). I also started giving a portion of each fertigation events solution as a low EC solution, followed by a full strength solution. Usually about 25% low EC. THe EC of the run off was consistently low before I started this and it hasn't changed. This practice is an experiment to see if a small portion of the fertigation solution is given at low EC will maintain a more uniform and consistent run-off and eliminate the need for routine H2Only events. A more stable run-off could mean a more stable environment inside the media.
👉This is the short week to catch up on the timeline since I went long last week.
👉In the 3 days since the last update the leaves at the top of the plant have developed issues. Perhaps from my low ec portions of solution at every fertigation event. I had purple stems around the plant already, the purple has moved into those top leaves veins and the leaves are yellowing with som brown spots. This may be cal/mag deficiency. I also believ it is exacerbated by the undesized pot for the size of the plant. The stretch is done and the buds are starting to grow and frost is forming. The plant has filled its corner of the tent. I hope that its tent mate will finish quickly, but it may have 2 more weeks.
👉To address the leaf issue , this morning I have given the plant a 2L of Calmag only solution. Followed by a 1L normal strength solution. This evening I gave 1L Calmag only with 2L normal mix. I will do a little more reading on the possibilities and any possible mix corrections. Hopefully its something I can affect and bring back in line.
👉The buds are forming nicely, and its showing that its going to be a frosty harvest! I expect to see long dense colas when its ready. The branches are sturdy and overall the plant looks great! (Just ignore those yellowing leave with brown spots around the tops of the colas which I address in the next segment). Its filled up its corner of the tent and needs to be in the middle. As soon as its tent mate is harvested it will be repositioned and it will have much more room.
👉This week I had hoped to cure the nutrient issues that showed up in the previous week. I am not sure If Ive succeeded, But the progression seems to have slowed. The leaves at the top of the plant that are in the brightest foot print of the lights are the ones that are affected the most. Looking like cal/mag deficiencies. The pH of the run-off from fertigations has been a bit on the lower side, but the EC was always low. So I gave the plant a couple of H2Oonly fertigations withe water pH'd to 6.2. 6.2 is a range that Calcium is best absorbed, and if my pH in parts of the media was a bit low then the calcium may have been locked out. So a large volume H2Only event has been given a couple of times with smaller H20nly volumes mixed in as well. After an H2Only fertigation, I followed with a regular strength nutrient solution. My run-off has risen to 5.8pH. The plant also started showing some brown tips on the leaves so I wll be dilution my nutrient mix to the lower range of the suggested range given on the General Hydroponics Drain to Waste Feed Chart for week 7. Since the most obvious issues are seen in the brightest foot print of the lights I have raise the lights a little bit from 17" above to 20"
👉The plant isn’t looking that great overall. Ive been chasing nutrient issues, and part of dealing with that is trial and error. I have done mostly the later. I was postulating that the issues seen last week were possibly caused by pH imbalance in the lower part of the pot as the pH of run off was 5.3 and lower. So my strategy to mitigate was to do a full volume H2Only irrigation with a 6.2pH to balance the soil. Then I followed with a regular strength Fertigation with a 6.1 pH. I also reduced the strength of the subsequent ferigations in the days that followed. I was also doing partial H2Only irrigation followed by nutrient solution. I did end up getting a more consistent 5.5+ pH for run-off. But I believe that I have starved the plant a bit with the lower overall solution strength. Yesterday I started to see if my assumptions are correct by doing a high volume, 5.9pH, H2Only irrigation, followed by a high volume higher strength nutrient solution (5.8pH @ 1.6EC). For nutrients I use the full line of General Hydroponics Flora series, and use the Drain to waste feed chart, this weeks mixtures were ‘mid-bloom’. The recommended EC range is 1.2-1.6EC. I have gone slightly off recipe by adding extra Cal/mag, Bloom and liquid Kool Bloom. The buds don’t look affected by the nutrient issues at this time. They continue to bulk and grow. I will continue trying the higher EC mix. I will also be doing a high volume pH'd H2Only irrigation followed by normal volume nurtient fertigation.
👉The spread of the nutrient issue seem to have halted. The damage is done and can be seen in the yellowed sections of some of the fan leaves. The majority of the issues are also in the brightest areas under the lights. I had raised the lights to 23" and moved one of the ceiling fans to blow on the top of the plant more. I still have some burned tips but I am not worried about that too much. The frost is very thick and the aroma is getting stronger, a nice sweet funky stank. Touching the flowers leaves more of a lemony solvent scent. The frost extends out on some of the larger sugar leaves quite a bit. The colas will be long and dense.
👉The nutrient mixture was made to be in the high end of the recommended range of the Mid Bloom week 8 mixture on the General Hydroponics Drain to waste feed chart. I have increased the frequency of H20nly irrigation events. The EC isn't spiking, but it does climb slowly. The pH of the run-off stays pretty consistent in the target range. The fertigation logs are in the pix for each week. I started blending week 8 to week 9 and will be at week 9 and maybe 10 by next week.
👉The calixs have gotten plump and not many fresh pistols are around, just the occasional on on each cola. Fox-tailing has been more pronounced and what looks like a see has appered at the tips of a couple of colas. I have not seen a hermie bit , but the plant is big and impossible to inspect very closely. I wont be able to get a better look at it until the gorilla is out of the tent and I can move the plant into the center and rotate it. The lowest leaves around the base have started yellowing between the veins. I'm sure I'm not finished with all the little issues this plant will show. The aroma is nice and sweet, hard to smell it over the intensely strong Gorilla glue, which I just finished harvesting. To touch the buds leaves a pine sol aroma that is typical.
👉I moved thru the 8 week mid bloom mix to the 9th week mid bloom mix on the General Hydroponics Drain to waste feed chart for the Flora series. I will move to the 10th week late bloom tomorrow. I have given two (I think...at least two) H2Only irrigations (always followed by full strength fertigations. I may move to the Ripen mix by the end of the week. I think I was expecting it to take a little longer but I may have been wrong. With the plant alone in the tent now I can rotate it again and get a better overal veiw of the plant. Many of the trichomes are already cloudy and this one may finish before the buds get very plump. But that's fine, they are super frosty and dense enough. The structure looks just what a sativa bud might look like, just needs to plump up a bit.
👉The plant finally has its own space. I moved it into the center of the tent and have rotated it to get a closer look at things. I have felt like bad things may be lurking on the far side which I had no access to. Fortunately everything looks good. I did find a couple of seeds forming in the tips of a couple of colas. Since then I have been scouring the plant looking for hermies. I haven't found any, but is a large bush and the hermie could be small. Its also possible that I carried some pollen in from outdoors. While all the farmland around me is cows, the strong prevailing winds could possibly have carried a few grains of pollen and those ended up on my clothes. I didn't see any evidence of the buds filling up with seeds, just the 3-4 with the seeds forming right on the tip. I will know for sure when I do the harvest.
👉I may have stuck with the week 8 mix a week too long, so I moved to week 9 for one batch (2.5gallons) then week 10one the next, I switched to week 11 (Ripen) at the end of the week. The plant had lots of crispy shitty looking fingers in the areas at the top of the canopy and in the strongest parts of the lights. I moved the lights up to 26". I have been trimming out the dead crispy leaves and and seeing more of a normal 'fade' pattern now on leaves all around the plant. I have been trimming off those that have faded for the most part. There are still lots of leaves left. The trichomes are seemingly mostly cloudy, I have not seen any amber. The lower areas have mostly clear trichomes. The buds are not 'normal' in structure. They started out normal sized calixs with normal structure buds, but they stopped 'plumping' and most of the calixs became freakishly large. This is very reminiscent of my Gorilla Glue form last year. The buds seemed to be in a state of suspended animation with no new calix's and all pistols red. When I shifted to the week 9 and then 10 mix, some fox-tailing started and some smallish calixs formed. The temps in the tent have been mid 60's at night and some days in the low 70s. This has given some of the colas a little bit of purple color. The plant is frosty as can be with frost extending well out onto even the largest sugar leaves. The smell is generic funky stank, but with a nice pleasant sweet note. The aroma is very strong and when the breezes are moderate to mild the sweet funky stank can be enjoyed outside my house as well (vented directly outside with no filter).
👉I will continue with the ripen mix of solution till harvest day. I will be monitoring the Trichome status looking for mostly cloudy with very few clears. I took a couple of small larf branches two weeks ago and let them dry, did not 'cure' it. Sticky as hell, and when I toked it it gave a nice buzz that was uppy. It wasn't 'intense' like finished cured buds are, but it was stronger than any larf Ive toked before. Larf is usually sort of an 'empty' high for me and hardly worth the effort of lighting it up, this was good enough to give a nice long lasting pleasant buzz. I cant wait to see what the good big buds will be like!
👉Last week the plant was showing a little fade, and still had a fair amount of clear trichomes. There were only a scant few fresh pistols and the plant was slowly ripening. This week, after switching to the ripening nutrient mix, I did see the plant gain more typical autumn colors, and I saw the buds plump a little more. There is foxtailing but its frost as it can get. While the bud structure wont be something a dispensary might sell, I have never bought from a dispensary, and all my plants that have foxtailed still gave killer buzz. I am sure the colors are because the tent temps at night were in the mid 60s and perhaps a bit lower at times. Even some cooler temps during the day. The trichomes have pretty much gone mostly cloudy and the plant looks as ready as it can get. I plan on Harvesting either tonight or tomorrow.
👉I switched to the ripening mix this week and was probably a week slow to switching. I continued with the frequent fertigation all week and performed no ‘flushing’ per se. I did give it a couple of H20nly irrigation followed by full strength nutrient fertigation’s. The EC of run off was not spiking, but the pH was dropping noticeably so I used the irrigation and high volume fertigation’s to keep the media pH in the target range of mid to high 5’s. The plants roots are obviously very dense and it takes up to 10+ minutes to give it 3l of solution.
👉The aroma is very strong. It smells of the generic funky stank, with a pleasant sweet note. I vent directly outside and when the breezes are swirling it envelopes the outdoors with the skunky stank my wife hates. She exclaims daily how much it smells of a skunk outside. This makes me happy because I know Im doing it right! The aroma is strong enough that even strong winds can not blow the wonderful aroma away.
👉My phone doenst take the best pix, it distorts the actual color hues and I have adjusted some of them to be more accurate. The phone doesnt adjust to the grow lights to true colors. I will be harvesting the plant tommorow. so Next update will be when all harvest and cure data is complete in 6 weeks.
Blow Mind Blows My Mind!!!😎
👉Harvest day came! The plant trichomes were mostly cloudy, still a few clears and very little amber on the calyx’s. If this was the only indicator for this plant I would have kept going until I saw a few less clears. However the plant did not have many fresh calix’ and most of the leaves were fully faded and drying out (referring to the major cola branches). Since it’s a Sativa dominant strain, I wanted the uppy high and so there was no need to risk pushing any further.
👉To do the harvest, I started at the bottom of the plant. I trimmed the secondary branches off and most of those landed on the ‘larf’ net, and the major colas got wet weighed and placed on a clothes pin with a letter on it. I logged each bud with its wet weight. Each clothes pinned cola was hung on a drying rack. Some of the lower coals had some decent secondary buds and those were given numbers so they could be jarred with its main cola later. I was not able to access the plant and trim as much of the secondary branches from the main branches. The lower branches have lots of secondary branches and lots of under developed flower. I will categorize it as larf because it is under developed, even if each secondary branch would be the same size and quality as many of the so-called ‘contest winners’ on this site. But I digress…The bud structure wasn’t ‘perfect’, oversized calyx’s, longer and slender, with a bit of fox tailing. But oh wow is it frosty! This is the stickiest of any that I have grown so far. My first Gorilla glue lived up to its name as a scissor clogger…this plant is twice as sticky! The sticky is all over the plant and extends well out onto the sugar leaves and the stems. The lower areas of the plant also had more leaves on it, so it became a frustrating exercise of leaves being trimmed and sticking to my fingers as I plucked them, then switching to the scissors to snip the leaves, which quickly became sticky and required lots of scraping to keep working. I started using two different pairs of scissors, one for leaves and one for the buds. I did get a nice, almost marble sized scissor hash ball.
👉The buds had lots of sugar leaves; these were all frosty as fuck. So I only trimmed off the leaves that stuck out. I didn’t trim them close. The structure of this bud, a looser trim is seemed to be what it should get. I had 18 main colas, and 8 buds from a couple of the lower main colas. There was one and a half net racks with decent sized secondary buds, and two net racks full of ‘larf’. I didn’t weigh the larf after a few bunches. After all the buds were trimmed, cataloged and hug on the rack, and aimed a 42” tower fan set about 36” away and turned to a medium speed. Two smaller fans pointed at the round net rack. The grow tent exhaust was cranked to high because the sweet funky stank was pissing my wife off…so I knew it was going to be something special! Outside, even with moderate breezes you could smell it outside around the house. After 12 hours I rotated the buds side that faced the fans, after 8 more hours I turned the fan down to its lowest speed. I again rotated the buds and weighed a couple to see the reduction in weight so far. The buds on the net rack were turned every 8 hrs. During this time the outdoor temps were in the 40s and sunny. My HVAC was set to 65f and didn’t run much. After the buds started feeling a little dry on the outside I placed them inside paper lunch sacks and left the tops open. I monitored the buds closely till they felt like they were getting a little drier. At that time I closed the top of the bags. When I did that step I weighed a couple buds and we were at about 38%. Another couple of days like this and I weighed again, we were at about 25-30% weight remaining. Normally I shoot for 20-25%, however the buds felt very dry so I proceeded with the cataloging the weight as I placed into jars. I placed hygrometers in each jar and expected to be leaving the jars open regularly to keep the humidity down. Surprisingly most of the hygrometers were registering below 60% humidity with only a few of the jars needing any airing out. My target humidity is 62%, but since they have all been slightly lower I have held off on putting the humidity packs in. The buds are still a little moist around the middle and Im sure the extreme frosty stickiness is contributing to holding in some moisture. This isn’t a bad thing and I have the humidity low enough that I shouldn’t get any mildew. I put the 62% humidity packs into the jars as I felt that each jar needed it. The final weights do not include the 'larf'. The total of the underdeveloped 'larfy' buds was 142g and would make great hash. I wont be making hash however because I the kief hash is already more that I will consume.
👉I took a small larf branch two weeks early. . I just let it dry out with no care for about 5 days then put into a small jar. It’s really the best larf I’ve toked yet. Very sticky, sweet funk aroma, and a nice strong buzz. I sampled some of the main buds after being in the jars a few days and it was significantly stronger! Taking a tiny bit of the scissor hash at two weeks was exponentially stronger! At 6 weeks the flavor is wonderful. Smooth and sweet. The taste at exhale make me smile.
