Got my beans in from Herbies! I added them to the collection in cold storage with the exception of 1 sour ripper seed. Floated it in the shotglass with a bit of peroxide for 24 hrs, once the bean sank I put it into a warm water soaked peat moss puck. Already sprouted within 48hrs!

Tharrr she blows! Starting to get her grow on- looking good so far. Adding some minor compost tea to keep her happy as she gets her roots down. I thew some Mykos into the soil when I planted her to get the fungi going.

She is picking up speed quick, I have high hopes for this one. Really love that it is already staying pretty low and spreading out, that will help me keep her dense in the tent without a bunch of stretching. Giving her some worm tea when the top looks dry and minor nutes. Nothing major yet.

Transplanted the sour ripper into her final resting place, 5g fabric pot. This plant is so short compared to others I have grown, the node spacing is super dense. It is still growing but the little cola is already too thick to attempt any LST. Not sure if she will end up stretching or not, interesting growth either way!

Topped early this week, started the LST on the lower branches, sort of a modified Mainline technique. She is already short and bushy so I am wondering what this will do to the overall plant height and yield. I have not topped this early before but have seen lots of other successful growers utilizing this method.

Not sure what kind of genetics Ripper seeds put together but of all the other Sour D strains I have seen, this is definitely one of the densest growing strains I have run. It has recovered well from being topped and the massive fan leaves are shading all of the lower branches. Hardly anything can be LST trained as all of the branches are tough and rigid (cant even pinch them to bend them). I am really interested in breeding/keeping this genetic line.

Grow Questions

Beangineerstarted grow question 4 years ago
Should I just remove the lower branches or keep them? They are getting pretty heavily shaded but I rotate the grow bag daily to expose the under canopy growth. This is the only plant I have ever not been able to LST the main Cola, I opted to top it and LST'ed the lower branches.

hey there Beangineer , see that cannabis plants are "apex dominant" meaning one main cola and lots of side colas. Most of the yield improvements you can make is by promoting lateral growth, meaning the side colas. If you pluck "branches" off , then you're removing the side colas one by one... you'll get a stick shaped plant in the end... basically you're hurting your yield by quite a lot for every branch you prune. I wouldnt remove them just because they're in the shade. Anyway when you close the grow box there's hardly any shade, which is the point of the grow box in the first place. What you can do is use a plant tie to gently arrange the branches in a way where they're more in the light, that's LST and that promotes latteral growth meaning you'll increase your yield. Hope this helps ! 🚀

This is a monster plant, I am going to have a hard time training it through the SCROG. It does look like it is going to have a heavy yield though! I am excited to get this into a bloom tent in a couple of weeks. I topped the top 2x branches at their 3rd node.

This plant is a monster. I have no idea how I am going to train it to stay within the boundaries of my bloom tent. Definitely going to try and cross this with feminized dutch treat pollen!!! Such a massive grower.

Beastly. Seriously, this strain is beastly, it is not going to fit in the bloom tent without some serious HST training. The SCROG I utilize keeps the buds from touching the lights and it is lower than the top of the main cola. I will try to tissue culture this strain!

This plant needed a lot of HST training to fit in the bloom tent, I really regret not implementing LST earlier for this grow. The density was so great and the Topping at the 3rd week was new for me as well. Learning along the way, we are just lucky the plants are very forgiving!

Tops are starting to bud, she is looking very dense. I am interested in seeing the quality of the buds this will produce. I added minute pirate bugs to help combat a minor thrip presence that I noticed.

This has been such a beast of a grower, it has been a challenge keeping her caged in the grow tent. I bet this would have been a rockstar outdoors!

@Beangineer, It is, you'll see.. 👌👍 I had them in scrog and 10 weeks in bloom i think. I had the giggles all the time, causing some really inapropriate situations in the office😂.. so at a second run I would give her two weeks more🤘.. Mine had a decent stretch, around 50-60%.. but look out for a grower named Ripper. He gave her 3 weeks in veg and changed to 12/12.. exploded to 170cm 🤯.... Great Taste and I was high as a kite😂👌. @@OimRausch, thanks! It came highly recommended and the ratings/reviews here on Grow Diaries are really positive. Any pointers/tips for success with this particular strain? Thanks!

@CRiSPrGrow, yeah I'm going to try and give them some more training so they get some light, they are not scrawny by any means so I know they are processing a lot of water/nutes every day.

@Inganjawetrust, I have heard a ton of good stuff about this strain so I am looking forward to seeing what kind of bud it can produce in our setup! Thanks

@FoTwenny, I am a little scared that this plant is so dense I may not be able to train it very well, it is getting stiff lower branches already. It is definitely really enjoying my grow configuration so far. I will definitely try to clone or seed this one for the archive!
