First Grow: Jack 47 & Tangie Auto

I'm mostly recording the day-to-day cycle of caring for a cannabis plant to improve the next grow. Hoping to get at least 2 oz. out of this grow, though. The writing may get mechanical. Thanks for dropping by 😷 Germinated via soaking/paper towel method. 1/2" taproots in 18 hours with Tangie and 24 hours with Jack 47. Emerged 8/22 at same time.

Watered on 8/28 and 8/30; 1 liter per plant each day with Voodoo Juice and B-52 (.5ml/l). (Probably should have watered to 20-30% runoff on 8/28. First-timer still trying to develop confidence in watering! 😅) Lowered lights from 24"-22" due to perceived stretching; good response from both plants. Will switch to 18/6 around week 3. 9/1 update: Raised light to 24" due to small amount of upward curling on edges of two leaves of Jack 47 and one leaf of Tangie (Will replace ?'s with strain names when I figure out which is which!) Watered (plain) each to minimal runoff; 2 liters per plant. Will check moisture level of soil on 9/3. 9/3: Raised light to 39"; curling continues on same leaves (unsure if it can be stopped). Switched lighting to 18/6. 9/4: 2/l water per plant with Voodoo Juice and B-52 (tap water).

9/5: Humidity spike to 68.5% Added InkBird humidity controller set to 59% with dehumidifier in grow tent. Humidity at 56% on 9/6. Larger dehumidifier to be added on 9/7. 9/7: Watered 2 l/plant: B-52, Grow, Micro, Bloom, Cal-Mag. Larger dehumidifier added; RH fluctuating between 55-58%. (High RH and dew point, along with high temperatures, outside perhaps entering tent from exhaust port in window?) 9/8: Some curling at tips of leaves on both plants. Reduced light intensity to 2 notches above 50% on brightness dial. Unsure if curling due to overwatering or light intensity. Tucked largest fan leaves underneath smaller stems on both plants. 9/10: Watered 1.5 l per plant (plain water). More leaf tucking. Future: Next watering: nutrient water @ 1.5 l per plant.

9/13: Nutrient water @ 1.5 l per plant. Tucked a few more leaves. Tangie is leggy, while Jack 47 is coming into its own, slowly developing more bud sites. 😛 Note: switched to RO water. 9/16: Plain water @ 1.5 l per plant. Removed dying fan leaf from bottom of Jack 47. Tangie at 17"; Jack 47 at 12". 9/19: Nutrient water @1.5 l per plant. Cut off fan leaves >50% unhealthy. Tangie at 19"; Jack 57 @ 15". (Notes for future: Week 6: add Big Bud; for plain waterings, use molasses; Week 8: stop Big Bud, switch to Overdrive (every watering for 10 days); Week 9.5: stop Overdrive, plain waterings.)

9/20 (Day 29): Tangie at 20"; Jack 47 at 15". Note: Have been raising LED intensity one notch per day for days 27, 28, and 29. Will back off if upward edge curling occurs again. 9/21 (Day 30): Backed off LED intensity from two notches above 75% to one notch. Temperatures were getting high and leaves started exhibiting same behavior from earlier in the grow. Will keep at this level unless flowering is slow. Tangie at 22"; Jack 47 at 16". 9/22 (Day 31): Watering: RO water w/Voodoo Juice and Cal-Mag. Turned LED intensity down to 75%. (Looks like minor edge curling on Jack 47 leaves stopped.) 9/23 (Day 32): Tangie at 25"; Jack 47 still 16". 9/24 (Day 33): Watering: Nutrient water w/Voodoo Juice, Cal-Mag, Rhino Skin, and Big Bud. Final dose of Voodoo Juice. (Will see if a bigger dose of Big Bud is needed to deal with possible phosphorus deficiency.) Tangie at 26.5"; Jack 47 at 16.5". 9/26 (Day 35): Watering: RO water with Cal-Mag and molasses (1.8 tsp/liter). Tangie at 29"; Jack 47 at 17.5". Next watering: Nutrient water w/Cal-Mag, Rhino Skin, B-52, and Big Bud. (Notes for future: Week 8: stop Big Bud, switch to Overdrive (every watering for 10 days); Week 9.5: stop Overdrive, plain waterings.)

Thanks for dropping by 😷 9/27 (Day 36): Leaf tucking maintenance; removed lower leaves @ more than 50% unproductive. Both Tangie and Jack 47 are producing numerous pistils. Tangie is an absolute monster! 9/28 (Day 37): Tangie @ 30.25"; Jack 47 @ 18.5". Watering: Nutrient water w/Cal-Mag, Rhino Skin, B-52, and Big Bud. 9/29 (Day 38): Tangie @ 31.25"; Jack 47 @ 19.5". Minor defoliation on both plants. (Some necrotic spots on a few leaves in middle of Tangie (due to trace mineral deficiency?). Older leaves on Jack 47.) 9/30 (Day 39): First trichomes appear on both plants. Watering: Tap water with Cal-Mag and molasses (1.8 tsp/3 liters). (Switching back to tap water due to perceived trace mineral deficiencies--a little experiment.) 10/1 (Day 40): Tangie @ 32"; Jack 47 still @ 19.5". Vertical growth may be slowing. Lowered light to 50% intensity, but may ramp it back up. Because of Tangie's strech, she's a few inches from the light, which is raised as high as possible. 10/2 (Day 41): Tangie @ 32"; Jack 47 @ 20.5". Watering: Nutrient water w/Cal-Mag, B-52, and Big Bud. Tangie to receive 1/2 dose of nutrients (but full dosage of B-52 and Big Bud) due to minor nutrient burn on new growth. (Rhino Skin discontinued; looking into how it reacts with Cal-Mag and this was to be final watering with it anyway.) Subsequent watering: Tap water with Cal-Mag and molasses (1.8 tsp/3 liters). (Notes for future: Week 8: stop Big Bud, switch to Overdrive (every watering for 10 days); Week 9.5: stop Overdrive, plain waterings.)

Nutrient burn on Tangie seems to have stopped, but I also turned down light intensity to 50% to make sure it wasn't related. 10/5 (Day 44): Tangie @32"; Jack 47 @ 20". Tangie's leaves around top cola showing signs of nutrient burn and heat stress. Everything else excellent. 10/6 (Day 45): Watering: Nutrient water w/Cal-Mag, B-52, and Big Bud. Tangie received 1/2 dose of nutrients (but full dosage of B-52 and Big Bud). 10/7 (Day 46): Minor defoliation of yellowed and 50% leaves. 10/8 (Day 47): Watering: Tap water with Cal-Mag and molasses (1.8 tsp/3 liters). Jack 47 looking stellar and stacking. Tangie has leveled out (no further leaf damage) and seems happy. 10/10 (Day 49): Watering: Nutrient water w/Cal-Mag, B-52, and Overdrive. Jack 47 received 1 ml/l of nutrients and Cal-Mag, and Tangie received 1/2 dose of nutrients (but full dosage of B-52 and Overdrive). Including Overdrive for 10 days of watering. Tangie is holding it together despite the earlier bloom nutrient burn and the current light burn. Jack 47 showing a little nutrient stress; will continue to back down on nutrients for both. 10/13 (Day 52): Turned light intensity down to one notch below 50%. Noticed some light stress on Jack 47. 10/14 (Day 53): Watering: Nutrient water w/Cal-Mag, B-52, and Overdrive. Jack 47 received 1 ml/l of nutrients and Cal-Mag, and Tangie received .5 ml/l dose of nutrients (but 2/3 dose of Cal-Mag and full dosage of B-52 and Overdrive). Colas are visibly fattening up on both plants. 10/16 (Day 55): Watering: Tap water with Cal-Mag, Overdrive, and molasses (1.8 tsp/3 liters). Turned light intensity down to two notches below 50%. Jack 47 light stress has slowed considerably. 10/17 (Day 56): Humidity dipping into the mid-30s over the past few days. Added a humidifier to the Inkbird and keeping levels at around 40%. Next watering: Nutrient water w/Cal-Mag, B-52, and Overdrive. Jack 47 to receive 1 ml/l of nutrients and Cal-Mag, and Tangie to receive .5 ml/l dose of nutrients (but 2/3 dose of Cal-Mag and full dosage of B-52 and Overdrive). Jack 47 received .33 ml/l of nutrients and Cal-Mag, and Tangie received .17 ml/l dose of nutrients (but 2/3 dose of Cal-Mag and full dosage of B-52 and Overdrive). Removed lower flowering sites from both plants. Trichomes on both plants are a mix of mostly clear, cloudy, and very few amber. Will try to harvest with 5-10% amber. 10/20 (Day 58): Watering: Tap water with Cal-Mag, Overdrive, and molasses (1.8 tsp/3 liters). Slow but noticeable bud growth and trichome development. 10/21 (Day 59): Defoliated some damaged leaves by hand. The stunted Tangie, which I never mention, has almost none of her larger leaves left; will be interested to see how long she goes for! (She's stunted because I initially thought she didn't germinate (seed in soil). When I was planting germinated Tangie seed, found her and replanted after damaging part of the taproot.) She's not much, but she's definitely special 👍 10/22 (Day 60): Watering: Nutrient water with B-52 and Overdrive. Jack 47 received .33 ml/l of nutrients and Cal-Mag, and Tangie received .17 ml/l dose of nutrients (but full dosage of B-52 and Overdrive). 10/23 (Day 61): Defoliation of damaged and yellowing leaves. 10/24 (Day 62): Watering: plain ph'd water. Beginning of flush. Next watering: Plain water for rest of grow.

Trichomes mostly early milky; will harvest when 5% amber if possible. 10/26 (Day 64): Watering: plain ph'd water. Some calcium or magnesium deficiencies starting to show as nutrients/supplements are being used up. 10/28 (Day 66): Watering: plain ph'd water. More defoliation of Jack 47. Removed some light-burnt leaves from Tangie. End of watering; allowing plants to exhaust water in preparation for harvest. 10/29 (Day 67): Removed around 10 leaves from Jack 47 and 5 from Tangie. Buds on Jack 47 are swelling, especially around the perimeter. Will probably harvest on Day 69. 10/30 (Day 68): Aggressive defoliation of Jack 47 in preparation for harvest. Leaving both in darkness until then. 10/31 (Day 69): Harvest and trimming. Currently drying at 70 degrees F and 40% RH.

Tangie'matic is a very nitrogen-sensitive plant. Back off on the nutrients, since she's a quick (and tall!) grower. Experienced mild light intensity issues, which were cured pretty quickly. With more experience, I'll definitely grow again. 👍

Could have let this girl run for a week or two more. She was extremely healthy, with a bit of light sensitivity. Looking forward to growing this again when I'm a better grower 👌
