Hi peeps!! Welcome to my Ozzy Outdoor Jack Grow 👍 Just a quick overview the grow before going in detail for this week: I finally decided to ordered proper fem seeds so at least you know what's going on from the start and even if harvest sucks, at least the buds won't. I have a few more strains like WW, Super Lemon Haze, Amnesia and some freebies but I chose Jack Herer and Arjan's Strawberry Haze for this year. Well that is if the Strawberry comes finally up, so far nothing yet after 9 days in soil.. I'll dropped another freebie just in case (Dinafem Blueberry Cookies 😋).. Soil is the biggest (and most expensive) investment although it should pay back once harvest comes. After some research I liked the Super Soil concept but instead of just buying the finished product, I made my own organic living soil and will be only topdressing 1/month, aloe foliar 1/week and organic supplements in every watering. Soil is amended and curing as we speak lol.. One thing I would like to change but can't (at least not for now) is the amount of direct sunlight my plants gonna get, would say 10-12h.. Might look into providing extra lighting but that is not planned for for now.. As for the Jack this week, he was soaked 24h and planted in a new recipe I tried (7part seedling mix, 2part organic compost, 1part worm castings). Popped up pretty much the day after and stretched a bit for 2-3days due to a weak 6W led I used as light source.. I made a 50W CFL grow light and I probably upgrade that to 100W because I have roughly 1 sqft anyway, perfect for the first weeks 😎 After that Jack clearly stopped stretching and was in full veg mode.. Because I made the rookie mistake of filling my pots up till 1inch from the top, I had to mock around a bit but made it so I could bury the stem till an inch from the first rounded leaves.. I would say he was 10cm from te original soil level before. All good and today he got a bit of a bday treat, Seasol at 25% . Cheers, see yous next week!!! ✌️

Regarding manifolding/mainlining: Is there any difference or what would be preferred between: Topping as early as possible in week1 and LST new growtips in week2 vs letting stuff grow out for 2 weeks and Top and LST new growtips at the same time? Cheers 👍

Hey! For me it all comes down to how healthy are your plants. If they're growing vigorously I go ahead and Top n' LST at the same time. Then as she grows I continue the process fast. It's worked great for me, they bounce back fast and it's less time lost training and waiting. BUT I REPEAT it all comes down to how healthy they are. If your really interested in mainling take a look at this tutorial. It's a step by step on everything you need to know and do on main-lining. https://www.growweedeasy.com/mainlining-nugbuckets Hope this helped. Good luck and happy growing!

Hey, Today I noticed all my outdoor plants have pistils after being 3-5weeks outside. Is this normal and will they continue veg due to increasing days/temps? Also, could this be reversed with additional light? Currently in the 7th week of Spring with 14h light and 13h sunrise.

Hi mate yes they will continue to veg if the day lengths are at 13 hours per day the pistils showing are just letting you know her sex and that she is physically ready to flower IF you wanted her to but with the 13 hrs of daily sunshine she should remain in veg until the days get shorter again usually early to mid Feb down under. A trick you can use to keep a plant vegging is to use solar lights close to the plants that will provide just enough light to trick your plant into thinking the days are longer than they really are Good luck mate

@Shooey @Mrs_Larimar @Grey_Wolf @Med_in_Tropic wouldn't mind having your thoughts on my flower in veg question above ☝️ They are all feminised seeds and currently first light - last light = 14h and sunrise - sunset = 13h. Things would've showed earlier no? For sure in Jack's case, being out for nearly 5 weeks (= shorter day/colder temps). Obviously I don't want them to flower yet so can flowering be reversed, say by giving a bit extra light? So confusing as this would be the time plants are put outside for an Ozzy Outdoor grow 🙄 Anyhow, thanks in advance peeps 😘

@Med_in_Tropic, Good thing is, we agreed that I could show her the investment to profit ratio 😂 So whatever I spent throughout the grow is balanced with what I harvest and what's that worth in coin 😉 If all goes well the numbers will do the talking and expansion is on the horizon 🤣

@Med_in_Tropic,😂😂😂😂 I told her I needed a light because otherwise my plants would flower and that if I bought a flood light vs the solar lights I could use that as a working light or even for camping 😎😁

@Shooey @Mrs_Larimar @Grey_Wolf @Med_in_Tropic I added photos of Jack 3 days since last update.. You tell me 😉 Cheers 👍 Edit: Obviously it's a different time of the day(evening) than when I normally take pictures (morning)

@Smartie, yeah mate. No haste to trim the buds. But sooner is a bit better. Again, why the rush? I have a plant that flowered during cloning process. I trimmed after three to four weeks. But I think there are some buds left. If there are, I take a vid this Sunday.

Smartiecommented4 years ago
@Med_in_Tropic, Cheers dude 👍 I was saying the same to a mate the other day about trimming the buds. I'm guessing that doesn't need to happen asap? Just to make sure I know what I'm doing, links will be gladly accepted 😂 Thanks ✌️

Hey mate, watching with interest. I am having my 2nd crack at the jack, also outdoor in AUS. The plan was some new strains but my seed orders are in limbo atm so going back to the jack again. I grew him last year too. As a plant it is not really overwhelming, but the finished product is sensational. Beautiful rich red hairs, and the taste!! I am one week ahead at this stage, and it will be good to keep an eye on yours as I am also all organic, and got some beautiful worm soil and castings to grow in this year thanks to my new compost bin. Don’t forget the perlite too!! I’m also using a light to keep him vegging, but my plan is for a 5-6 week veg then outside for an early finish and another run in before the summer sizzle. Cheers mate 🍻

Smartiecommented4 years ago
@Shooey, Cool, I'll check him out in a sec 👍 As for the perlite in the amended soil, I use an aeration mix that includes Pumice (55%), Rice Hulls (40%) and Zeolite (5%) and its just beautiful.. It's the orange looking pile you see in the pictures, the other 2 Peat Moss and Worm castings, equal parts.. It's just so much better than just Perlite, no floating etc.. That's also the reason I tried this recipe for seed mix, instead of Peat, Perlite and compost in equal parts I now still have roughly 1/3 of compost and I use 2/3 of quality seed raising mix to use instead of Peat and Perlite.. All looking good for so far.. Cheers mate ✌️ Edit: Why are the comments all over the place? 😂 Should I stop using reply or am I missing something here lol

@Smartie, nice one smartie. Lucky you to grow up so close to the coffee shops. I always wanted to visit and hope to one day. I went as a kid but just for a family holiday! Yes perlite was for the main soil mix. I put in seedling pot mix too, it just helps the roots to move more freely and in the end access nutrients better. I learned a lot on here from grey wolf. Check him out, he is outdoor organic in oz too and he is usually happy to pass on his knowledge, great guy. Cheers Smartie!

@Shooey, Cheers for the comment bro!! I'll check out your diary in a minute 😉 As for Jack, we know eachother for a longtime 😂 I'm originally from Belgium so the closest coffee shop in Holland was 45min away, Amsterdam 3,5 hours (car).. Has been my favourite ever since, for the exact reasons you mentioned 👍 You mean perlite in the soil I amended or in the seedling mix? ✌️

@Shooey, Thanks, so far so good 👍 Might launch a grower question after but I'm not sure if I like the Top 1 week and LST the week after thing or if I just let things grow out a bit more and top and LST at the same time and then let things recover again 🤔 Cheers anyway my friend 👍

Very interesting smartie. Looks really healthy too. I’m going all in on worms this year too thanks to the compost bin. Worm soil and tea! It’s an interesting technique mate and I can’t say I’ve seen it before. It’s lovely and strong for sure! My jack had a setback so I started again, this time looking much better. It’s glorious weather already so early in the season, a treat for the outdoor organic grower, all the best mate👍👍

@Smartie, we use half a cap full per 9l watering can and it really works! The veggie garden beams. I mix a small amount with dr greenthumbs high tea and although i dont have an aerator, a shake mix is acceptable. I still get that rich sweet smell and dilute this for soil drench. So far it has worked out nicely as a compliment to the nutrients. Cheers mate

Smartiecommented4 years ago
@Shooey, Mmmm 🤔 There should be no excessive moisture in worm/compost bins, if there is that means your c/n ratio is off (worms and hot compost prefer 25-30 c/n ratio). This liquid is called leachate and can potentially harm your garden if used undiluted, however I know people who use it and seems to be fine. Regardless, this is no compost tea where you put a (tea)bag with compost/worm casting in a bucket of water and let that aerate for 24-48h using an aquarium air pump. This is called Activated Aerated Compost Tea. I had the same assumption in the beginning, in fact I added taps on the bottom of my bins for that 😂 As for Bokashi, I've heard of it but enough on the plate as it is lol..

Man I can’t help but think jack has fully bolted, looks like even some orange hairs appearing and even trichs building up by the look of some of those pics. Dude it might be worth finishing him out and getting what you can and planting again asap maybe?? I’m no expert man but mine are doing the same, and same last year. I don’t reckon you would need to bring him in either, I don’t even cover mine anymore,, it’s a tough call matey I’m feelin ya. You’ve done so well with all the training and shaping him to perfection. 👍👍🍻

@Smartie, yeah mate there will be heaps to take away from this for future grows. I am interested to see if it does show signs of reveg like those singular leaves appearing in coming weeks. I feel as though once they hit a certain point they won’t likely go back, or at least that has happened to me so far, so much so that I plan for it now. With re vegging, I have heard that the hormonal changes from veg/flower/veg/flower affect the plants and the end result is not premium quality bud (grow from your heart podcast- Irie genetics). I haven’t done it but it makes sense. I reckon jack is busting out, but that blueberry seems to be coming back around well enough bro. @med would know, he would have done stuff like that before just for fun!! 😄

Smartiecommented4 years ago
@Shooey, I share that opinion mate, at least that he was too far gone before me intervening.👍 Since today I'm starting to get the impression that he changed his mind (not saying that there's no damage done, or that all of a sudden the blind can see again tho 🙈) as it looks like few colas almost doubled in size and there are more/bigger leaves 🤓 For the sake of science and because I still believe in Jack, he will stay with the others for another week under the added light (7min added for the moment lol). After that it's nature's call. I know you're not a fan but what's the deal with revegging? Stress/hermie/yield? Sure someone must pulled it off successfully already no?😂 Cheers mate ✌️

Howdy, just a tip you can pierce through the smartpots and ankering your bendings- Just take aknife or scissor and poke little holes into the bags,
Smartie
Smartiecommented4 years ago
@Mrs_Larimar, Hahaha you can't believe what I thought throughout today's whole frikking session 😂 Although I would prefer pegs (ones shown in Barry's diary) for the first few stages of forming the manifold (pretty much where I'm at now). This would make six pegs in total which is not a drama in combination with topdressing. After that (so for me in 2 weeks and at 8 colas) I would start using the planters and the 6 pegs can go. But yeah I see what you're saying, would be a bit easier to use ties to the pot or pegs instead of the long, curly and very annoying piece of wire 🤣 Cheers 👍

Smartiecommented4 years ago
@Shooey, Cheers cob 👍 For the moment the weather is a bit all over the shop, but yeah we've had a few 35ers already in the first month of Spring 😎 But then this week not more than 25 and a shower here and there 🤷 The misting should help to drop temps by 10, as for shade, to keep the scorching heat between 10am-2pm away I will definitely have to make some changes 🤔 ✌️✌️

@Mrs_Larimar, thank you, means a lot.. If root is an issue, have you tried Mycorrhiza?
Smartie
Smartiecommented4 years ago
@Med_in_Tropic, Not really sure if it's a root issue. I think he was preflowering for a while and I just didn't see it early enough between all topping, training and manifolding 🤣 But then today he looked better again 😎 Like I said I'm not giving up on him.. I know Mycorrhizal tho, was on next year's shopping list 😉 Cheers 👍
