This run we have a Runtz from Zamnesia seeds alongside a Kosherdawg from DNA Genetics.
We are looking for the sweetest and fruitiest tasting strains, with high hopes for this Runtz.
Day 1: 9-October-2020:
Both are more or less above soil and seem to each have a healthy thick white tap root :)
Day 3:
Couldn't attend them no day 2, the lights were to weak, now set to 25% instead of 5%
Day 4:
Transplant to DWC over a 1 layer of clay pebbles. Water not ph corrected (because roots not in water) but added nutrients at 1/5 of veg dosing strength. Water level approx 3cm/1inch below netpot.
Day 5:
They both seem pretty humid, with water droplets on the leaves, also bottom the netpot is wet upto 5cm above the bottom, so lowered the water height to 5cm below the bottom of the netpot. Also put the lights closer to try to warm up the seedlings, hopefully without warming the water reservoir.
Day 6:
All seems good, no roots yet - hopefully by day 8 the roots will have emerged otherwise I might have done something wrong. Top feeding in a circle around the seedlings 2-3 times a day with a syringe. Dimmed the light to 15% and put the light closer, to 35cm / 12inch from the top of the seedlings. Added hydroguard to the reservoir.
Day 19:
Everything is going well, she is growing vigorously! Developing new nodes at a faster rate than the Kosher Dawg
Just did a water res change with low nute dosage.
Keeping low night temps due to flower tent in same room (and last 2 weeks of flower). This can lead to phosphorus deficiency as can be seen on the lower leaves!
Other than that she is growing well.
Didn't update the growdiary in the past week. Basically due to mainlining the growth was very slow but the stems fattened up and the plant requires more nutrients.
Will transplant her into a bigger dwc in the larger tent under better light.
Hopefully she will start branching out hard the next 2 weeks, plan is to start flower 20 days from now (if she is big enough).
Day 47: transplanted to bigger hydro system (more stable water reservoir) and in bigger tent (more ventilation, better light)
Day 50: All going well, slowly giving more nutrients. The roots seem very healthy white and airy and the internode distance seems consistent. If she grows like this during flower then feeding her will be a breeze! Looking forward to see how the side branching goes in the next week or two before flipping to flower!
Everything going well, slowly increasing the nutrient dosage but they seems to also want more every few days so they are always in a slight lack of nutrients but healthy.
Day 59: Major defoliation removing nearly all fan leaves (apart from at the top of a branch) and removed smallest internodes.
Day 60: Plants reacted well, increased nutrient dosage, will start flower in 2 days if no visible stress
Day 61: Another defoliation, if they react well will start flower
After 62 days of veg started the 12/12 light schedule!
The Runtz is drinking quite a bit of water and nutrients and growing steadily on all growth tips!
EC is up to 1.6
--> Added some extra fans because its getting dense! Might need even more fans at the end of bloom to avoid getting bud rot again!
Day 68 (f6) update: EC at 1.75 stretching steadily and now the Runtz is about 4-5cm taller than the Kosher Dawg (they were of similar height at the start of flowering 6 days back)
Day 70 (f8):
Drinking a lot! EC set to 1.8 and she still wants more! Stretching consistently at the moment, looks like she is naturally filling up the space (the idea is to not have to LST every few days thanks to the skeleton/base setup with mainlining, so far its looking good!)
She has a nice smell when I rub the stems!
Yellow tips on the thin bud site leaves, day 12-13 of flower. She is stretching at least 4cm per day at every branch that reaches the top of the canopy. The past week she got a lot of nutrients, EC at 1.85-1.9 (which is the highest I have ever had in DWC), the EC stays stable.
Day 77 (f15):
The Runtz is stretching considerably more than the Kosher Dawg (which will need to be elevated - probably by putting planks under the dwc reservoir).
Ran out of Plagron nutrients and couldn't find anymore! So I bought the only ones available at the hydro store 'hy-pro hydro A & B), these nutrients are much less concentrated and I already used up near to half a litre of nutrients on my reservoir change day (yesterday)!
The yellow tips on the Runtz seem to be light stress, as during the res change the nutrient dosage was lowered and ph maintained between 5.7-6.1 and she shows she is hungry but the yellow tips got slightly worse to the light is 15cm higher now.
Nice strong vegetative smell releases when I rub any part of the plants :D
It is getting difficult to take pictures where you can actually see the size of the plants because the space is so packed! Can't wait to do the heavy defoliation after the stretch (in like 5-7 days from now)!
Day 80 (f18) update:
10cm stretch since day 15, she is doing well! Internode distance is larger than I'm used to, but she also stretched more than I expected so I'll probably remove all the lower bud sites during the heavy defoliation. Light stress (or nute burn) symptoms barely progressed, I think putting the light from 35 to 55cm from the highest growth shoots helped.
Since she is so bushy and definitely the biggest volume plant I have ever had I am very curious to see what she REALLY looks like after the defoliation!!
Day 80 (f20) update (heavy defoliation):
The stretch has slowed down and the buds have a slight fresh sweet citrus aroma, took 90 minutes to defoliate her and remove the 'sucker' branches and bud sites on the bottom 40% of the plant.
Changed water reservoir to a mix with a bit of bloom booster (Plagron green sensation).
Day 86 (f24) update:
Doing great!
Did a week 3 defoliation, she recovered quickly.
Changed to Canna nutrients and using up my bloom booster (Plagron Green Sensation). Looking to move to Botanicare in the future (hoping that the Tea blend will give the buds more terps...).
So far so good! At least another 6 weeks left, can't wait for her to start putting off some serious scent :D
Day 31 flower update:
Everything going smooth!
She is completely filling her part of the tent with bud sites 😀
The buds are putting out a nice fruity citrus smell and the fan leaves 'in' the buds are starting to get thc 😛
In hindsight, I should have removed more of the lower bud sites, they are barely getting any light and will be less developed at harvest time... Anyway with the way she is looking I have nothing to complain about 😅 Can't wait to smell her in a few weeks 😛😛
Should i use these new nutrients? Current situation: 1 month of flower left, just got some Botanicare TEA and SWEET RAW products. I grow in DWC and mainly got these supplements for the flavor, I thought the TEA was supposed to promote biological life in the root zone.
While I’ve never done dwc, I do use “flavor” enhancers in the week 4-6 range of flower—- no comparison to see if they do enhance, but they do not hurt or appears to slow down the plant... good luck ✌️🏻💚🌿
Day 100 (f38) update:
Everything going great! Bud formation coming along nicely, can'y wait for the day 42 defoliation to get some more light penetration to the mid buds.
===> Smells are gaining in complexity!! The fruity skunky smells now have a more dank background which reminds me of blue cheese with hints of gelato!
Slowly lowering the nutrients she clearly needs less nitrogen (leaf tips are slowly starting to curl down since this morning).
Resin production seems to be coming along nicely :D
Day 107 (f45) update:
Runtz is doing amazing!!! 😍😍😍
Her buds are thickening up, even the mid section buds are coming along nicely! 😛
She smells very lovely, gaining complexity in smell with some 'deeper' background smells most likely coming from the gelato parent!
Brought down the nutrient dosage from 1.6-1.8 EC to 1-1.2 EC and she is handling it very well.
Still at least 2 weeks left, probably 3 weeks till harvest!!! Can't wait!!! 😝

Day 114 (f52) update:
Runtz is doing great! 😀
Smells are gaining in complexity 😋😋, with more of a dank heavy gelato smell behind the 'blue cheese' fruity smells.
--> Buds were swelling this week, with the buds closest to the light nicely swollen and more ripe than mid and lower section buds. 😎
==> Guessing another 10-14 days till harvest 😍😁😛
Day 122 (f60) update:
Slight burn on the leaf tips! My guess is not enough nutrients in the water res which caused an imbalance after a week... Anyway I changed the water res and all seems fine!
Progression is slow at this point!
> The buds are maturing slowly
> The buds are packing on weight slowly (and some weaker branches are bending over because of this)
> The smell has gained in complexity and is more 'round'/'full bodied' smell compared to before, a pretty peculiar smell that reminds me of purple-colored sweets (and blue cheese but less spicy)
She needs at least another week, maybe even two...
Day 129 (f67) update:
Got slight nutrient burn on most of the leaf tips!!! This came from under feeding (was at 0.8EC giving nutrient burn after a few days, now at 1.2EC doing great)
Buds are gaining in weight and some branches falling over (I cut them already 😜)
She has some real candy smells a bit like casis (the purple berries) flavor 😛😛😛
Her trichomes are slowly maturing... hopefully in a week she will be ripe! 😍
Im scared that the mid/lower section buds will need at least another 2 weeks to become ripe... I will see what I do when the top section is ripe... 😈
Day 135 (f73) update:
Found 1 nanner!!!! 😭😡 She is starting to hermie... Her neighbour plant is not having these problems yet so the possible reasons I can think of are:
- light leak (will check after harvesting)
- stress from chopping small branches every few days for the past weeks (to test samples early...)
- genetics :/
- stress from slight overfeeding a week ago
- stress from the difference in maturity between top and bottom of the plant? I only found 1 nanner on the most developed bud the closest to the light, and some white pistils and extra swollen calyxes on buds that previously seemed to only have orange/brown pistils and already had swollen calyxes...
--> I pinched several 'suspicious' calyxes but found nothing wrong, only 1 single nanner on the entire plant so hopefully harvesting in 7 days won't be a problem. The flushing along with last 48h of darkness will give her more stress but she doesn't look stressed out at the moment so I'm crossing my fingers 😅
Started flushing today, hoping to get more fade in the mid section of the plant 😛

Note:
At time of writing the Runtz has had 2 weeks cure, will update the review and rate it after 2+ months cure.
Hermied a bit, has very few seeds so not too bad.
Growth review:
- vigorous grower during veg
- solid stretch
- medium internode distance
- small sized buds
- lower buds not too airy
- very easy/not fussy
- medium amount of smell
- 80+ days flower (12/12) in hydro DWC under full spectrum led
- responded well to various lst techniques
Ease of growth rating: 9/10
General note:
--> For me personally this strain NEEDS a good cure and is not worth smoking yet... It has a bit of a citrus grassy (not hay) taste, with some 'special' fruity smells to it that remind a bit of grapes/cassis. When grinding/opening the curing pots there is a pretty dank heavy weed smell so I think the quality will come out after a few months of cure... In its current state not worth smoking for the taste or effect after 14 days cure.
--> Currently the effect is not very strong, easy to handle and I need a lot to feel a bit. The effect lasts for short compared to the average strains I smoke. Should develop more character with a longer cure.
Hash making notes:
- water extraction of the trim yielded 16g of hash (45mc-220mc)
- rosin has a bit too much of a weird spicy grassy taste which make it a bit unpleasant, waiting till the buds improve with cure to try again
- rosin color at 80c is yellow/white/beige creamy waxy, with hard consistency
- rosin color at 95c is golden with hard consistency
