Ghost Train Haze Week 2 Notes
10/28
Biggie is doing really dope and is already growing out their first set of secondary leaves. Not getting too leggy, I’d say stem height is maybe 1.5 or 2 inches tall. I have such a good feeling about this one lol.
The other seed that I just planted (the middle-sized one out of the three I’ve tried so far; the smallest unfortunately didn’t make it), is doing really well too. That taproot is pushing against the dirt rather than burrowing into it, so the root and seed is somewhat exposed. If it continues I’ll do some adjustment and help the seed reposition.
10/29
So dope – repositioning the seed last night seems to have done the trick and is now the second Ghost Train Haze seed to officially germinate.
The first and biggest of my seeds to germinate is Biggie, so this second one I’ll call Smalls. Lol.
Smalls taproot must’ve grown longer than I originally thought, because they’re already mature enough to show signs that they’re about ready to ditch the shell casing and pop up with some cotyledons.
Afternoon Update: Ghost Train Haze is straight up incredible. For the surviving seeds (2/3 to date), the vitality I’m seeing is just blowing me away. Growth is not only quick and steady once germinated; the sprouting process has been a dream too. These little guys are throwing off some serious vitality too, the growth is looking really strong and filling out nicely from the get-go.
Anyway, the main purpose of this update is to report the seed casing is off, and the cotyledons are already green and developed. They still need to open up more, but still. Amazing.
10/30
Both Biggie and Smalls are doing awesome and seem to be thriving so far. Biggie’s already doubled in size leaf-wise, and Smalls is already working on their first set of secondary leaves with the cotyledons stretched out to absorb the light.
There’s reduced curling in the cotyledons which I’m hopeful means I’m starting to dial in the watering process during the sprout phase. Still just misting twice a day and rotating the pot 2-3 times a day.
I noticed that Smalls keeps bending and lengthening a bit in search of light while I’ve moved Biggie around a few times and she really doesn’t seem to notice and just keeps growing straight and steadily.
Since Biggie doesn’t seem to care much about where I position her in the grow tent, I moved Smalls to sit more centrally under the light.
11/01
Been misting 2-3 times a day with water I added a dash of cal/mag and PH’d, and rotating pots twice a day with a continued 20/4 light cycle. I may switch to 18/6 for my next batch of strains and compare the difference.
I’m noticing that the water tends to leave a bit of nutrient burn on the leaves of some of my other strains, so I’ve been careful to avoid getting water on the leaves or wipe off the leaves after misting the dirt.
Both Ghost Train Haze seeds are still going strong and growing in solidly. Biggie is already starting to grow out the next set of leaves (the ones that should be the first set of 3/5 point leaves).
Smalls is working on the first set of secondary, and as of today the leaves have already grown to the same size as the cotyledons.
I bought some gender testing kits for the bag seed I’m growing; Ghost Train Haze included. Once Biggie and Smalls have both developed their first set of 3/5 pointed leaves, I’ll take a sample from the cotyledons and mail the test kits back to the lab to get tested.
If by some crazy chance I have one male and one female I might just leave the other two Ghost Train Haze seeds ungerminated for now, try to clone the female to get another grow going before sending the originals into flower. I’ll start with the male and get the pollen before sending the female into flower and pollinating a few areas for future seed sites.
If Biggie and Smalls end up the same gender, I’ll give one or both other seeds a try and hope for the best.
11/03
Still impressed by the rate of growth, but nothing has really happened since last post except the leaves getting bigger and Biggie’s stem getting noticeably thicker already. Just did the usual rotation/misting cycle today and yesterday before taking pics. Singing off to go post this now lol.
@ThrashedTV_BakedByGlaze, I'll be honest i've definitely thought about it lmao, could be a really fun experiment since conditions and temp mostly work pretty well together
