They grew rapidly in the last week. The problem of the yellow tipped new growth is still there. So I decided to give them a load of water with just a drop of nutrient (+75ppm). It has been happening since before I've really started feeding them. The soil is a light mix with ~1 week of nutrient. Maybe it is a nutrient burn anyway. It's kind of hard to tell. Buds are growing bigger :)

Grow Questions

* Spots (pic 4), on only 3 leaves of the plant at the top. Last week, before lights out, I misted. By lights-on time, some parts of the plant were still wet. Is this some water burn? Tap water is PHd and ~215 ppm (plenty ca/mg) * Any insight on those yellow tips is welcome! :)

Nootz burn, definitely, looking your growth since beginning you shouldnโ€™t have nuke them with nootz in week 4 when the soil was brand new. Hereโ€™s a tip , in soil everything happens 3 weeks after approximately. No need to use Ca, thereโ€™s plenty enough in your soil + your tap water , those brown spots are Cal excess and the tips burns is because the EC in the media is/or/has been to high.

RE: my question, Thanks very much for the helpful replies everyone! :) I guess I did indeed overdo it a bit with nutrients despite my caution. (At first I thought they were actually underfed due to corkscrewy/pale new growth) And at the beginning of week 5 I gave around 550-600 ppm (including the 200ppm water) because those plants were growing so fast. Thankfully, it is mostly yellowing rather than necrosis. (my tap water is 200-230 ppm (~0.4 EC), so that's a bit less than 400ppm (0.8 EC) of added nutrient. I always water the soil thoroughly until I see some runoff, and wait until the soil is very dry for the next watering) Today the pots were "basically" flushed with 0.6EC (super small dose of NPK). I decided that was a stupid idea and just threw a lot of regular PH'd tapwater on top of it. I measured runoff at 220ppm. Unfortunately I did not test the initial runoff, but at least what came out in the end came out as clean as my tap water. :) I'll proceed with the tips, give them some clean water for now and see how they will do ๐Ÿ‘ Overall I am not very worried because they seem to be developing pretty well ๐Ÿ˜Š

@BillMonroe, I was having trouble with nutrient build up in the soil despite light feeding or so I thought....I think my problem was giving the same volume of nutrient solution as I did water. I'm in the process of feeding smaller volumes of solutions with the same ppm I had been using. If you have been doing the same thing I was that could be the problem and I might have a solution lol. I'm a new grower too so dont take anything I say as a fact. Im only good for a hypothesis that will hopefully at least be in the right direction.

Hey there you mentioned that the plants were still wet the next morning, do you have a small fan running in the night? The last thing you want is lay around water during flowering, the rot may come. If your fan is set to tje same timer as your lights...maybe change that so they have a slight wind.
BillMonroe
BillMonroe
Yep, the clip-on fan keeps running :) normally they dried up a bit quicker after a misting. Thankfully the spotting has not appeared on any other leaves! (yet? ๐Ÿ˜) Also, I believe it happened when I still did not have my inline fan connected. When I misted without exhaust fan, RH was around 70-80% when I would open the tent. Now with the fan it is back to regular RH after... well, less than 4 hrs.๐Ÿ˜Š Indeed, I have read and heard about the flowering stage and humidity. So I have not misted the plants in a while, and I'm not sure I will do it that often - or at all - anymore. It rains in nature, but I'm not sure if the plants actually need or benefit from water on the shoots. What is your approach during flowering?

@Order_66, Thanks! It's really cool to see the fattening ๐Ÿ˜€. Hopefully they will get nice and obese

Hey so if this is your 1st grow and an auto you've done amazing so far! I'm sure you know that the autos are great in many ways but picky in others, like overdosing nutes. I see plagron is in your line up, they carry a couple products pure-zyme and green sensation that at low doses would maybe help out your plant with some of those micro level elements that help with abuse stress and disease. If you look at plagrons site I'm sure they have a feeding schedule recommendation. I hope she continues to do well and gets nice and bulky.

@Experimentgreen, thank you - the plants are surprisingly vigorous; I can only thank the genetics, because this is my first time growing any kind of plant, haha! ๐Ÿ˜Š (These seeds are actually 'store brand'. I am surprised the plants grew so tall, they were listed 50-100cm but are easily approaching the 100cm without any early veg stretching) Yes, I think I have learned first hand that the stories of their nutrient sensitivity are very true. I actually have a bottle of Green sensation that I was planning to start using around this week! However, the slight tip burn made me wary to hit them with so much P-K (I believe it is around 0-10-11). At the same time I wonder if the buds can't use the boost, despite the apparent excess of nutrients. I will think about starting a very conservative dosage at the end of the week if the plants are in good shape!

Hi mate what an awesome first grow . I've been looking at your other grows and you grow some really good looking bud, they look lovely and dense! The pineapple chunk looks insane

Hey man I'm about to start my first grow I hope it goes half as good as yours, I got some autos off seedsman should be here in a couple days, after u get it all dry let us know what your yeild was

@Raamastak, I put the harvest update. With a surprising yield! (to me) (I estimate another 30 grams of fluffy buds - the stuff people often lollipop, and now I know why)
BillMonroe
BillMonroe
@Raamastak,Thanks for the nice comment! I am sure you will do well, or even better, especially if you have done some reading and sight-seeing here. I will definitely weigh the yield once the last 2 plants are ready for jarring. The bud that is curing right now is starting to get a nice smell, and is very sticky. if you will use LED lights- I often read that LED causes less transpiration (evaporation of water from the leaves) than HPS. A lot of the information available online is suited for HPS lamps. I expect that the soil dries out a lot quicker in HPS. Some growers state that this causes plants to need slightly less nutrients than under HPS (75%), but uptake of some elements like calcium is hindered by low transpiration. Well, I think I have learned that this is something to take into account when dealing with all this anecdotal information. these 4 plants of mine were quite different. There were 2 big ones, a lanky thin one and a short one with not so much THC production as the others. The LST plant did the best (although LST was minimal), I would never grow without LST again. Hopefully your Seedsman seeds will be a bit better or more stable genetics :) Good luck!

Tried to take some trichome pictures. What do you guys think? ๐Ÿ˜Š I am not even good at judging milkiness of dried weed's trichomes. Next time I will have a look in daylight instead of the CFL

Thanks again to everyone for the thoughtful answers to my question. I really wish I could choose multiple best answers. These tips and experiences will be valuable in the next grow! :) In the last week the plants were just given water. I let the soil dry out thoroughly, as usual. I noticed that the old leaves started to show classic signs of phosphorous deficiency, as well as some N deficiency. (Yellowing leaves and falling off) I intentionally did not defoliate aggressively to be able to diagnose problems and see what the plants do with the leaves in general. I was very happy to see these deficiencies because I can now see the effects of the nutrients when the plants actually need them. These are also the first nutrient related issues that have been simple to diagnose. I am pretty sure I have diagnosed the leaf purpling correctly (relatively large temperature differences). It is of course unfortunate that some purpling has occurred in this early stage of flowering (I assume green leaves photosynthesize better). I raised the lamp a little higher, but it's at its maximum height now. The plants grew unexpectedly tall. ๐Ÿ˜Š Still no worries for me... it is fun seeing them grow and learning. They are budding every day
