So basically, the diesel was planted on 16/2 and the cookies on 2/3. So the diesel is a few weeks older but I slowed it down a bit (kept the base nutes out) until the cookies started to catch up.
Both coming along nicely now. Lots of little shoots and short plants. Have never completed a successful auto run before. Looking forward to seeing these girls stretch.
The GSC is at 4 weeks from seed. The diesel is at about 6.
At end of week 5 I tied down the main head of the diesel a third time.
I removed the coat hanger that was holding down/training the GSC and trying to encourage it to stretch taller.
Unfortunately the ph in the res was unstable for a few days during this week. Stopped using citric after that. Girls are slowly bouncing back.
Ph stability issues in the res continued early into week 6 until I got phosphoric acid.
Hope it helps.
Diesel is showing signs of early bud sites.
I cleaned her up and opened the canopy to try and set her up for a nice airy architecture.
Increased watering volume early in week 6.
Towards end of week 6 I gave them both a haircut around the bottom 3rd of the plants.
Both girls looking healthy. I switched to phosphoric acid for the pH control in the res. More stable than citric!
Light was way too close for the last week of veg and I want to encourage a good stretch so I raised the light.
Gave them both a really good trim to clean up lower bud sites.
The cookies is just stretching like a mofo. I had to super crop the main top. No choice. Either that or I let it go and it would be touching the light.
Smell is getting stronger.
Increased the watering frequency to 4x per day on 1 minute cycles at the start of this week.
They are very very very happy.
Towards end of this week I had no choice but to take the girls out for a HUGE haircut and to train the branches away from each other and put in a scrog net. I tried to avoid it this time around but there was just no way around it.
The plants (really the cookies) just grew much bigger than I anticipated (haha!) and you can see the before and after pics. With the training and the scrog it’s just more tidy.
Cracked one of the main heads of the cookies when I was tucking it under the scrog net.
The girls have recovered nicely from the big defol and scrog net install. The auto cookies is a BEAST and she just loves the light.
Both of these girls have developed rather thick strong trunks and I can only imagine what’s going on inside that little 3 gallon pot.
The cookies will be a challenge to keep low enough for the light. NY Diesel has not stretched nearly as much as the cookies.
Just realised that the cookies is actually even younger than I thought.
Did a nice defol again on 4/20
Truthfully it is hard to keep track of exactly what “week” these girls are in because I have manipulated their growth patterns a bit with training, bending, defoliation etc over the weeks.
So judging on their progress is how I’m assigning the “week number “.
The cookies is much slower in trichome production than the diesel.
Let’s see what the Rhino K adds to the mix!!
Temps reached up to 30-32c this week
So many leaves on the cookies…gotta trim every couple of days.
Still not many trichomes on her but they are starting to increase and the colas are bulking up!!
Diesel is sticky icky goodness yum
If you count from sprouting, this is actually week 10 from seed for the NYD. But who’s counting?
Little NYD has been getting flushed for at least a week.
The cookies has just gone bonkers I can’t wait to see what she’ll be like. Maybe another ten days.
I’ve started to “flush” but it’s at 0.8 EC (I just diluted the res).
Meanwhile the NYD is really going to be ready for a chop any day now. I’m just going to have to let it ride out; I’m not going to rush anything with the cookies!!!!
Flushing.
The NYD got a 2 week flush because it was a) older b) fading earlier c) foxtailing
The cookies had a flush that brought the EC down to about 1.0-1.3.
Then a dry down and after two days it looked like it was ready for chopping but I wanted to bring the flush runoff down even more. So I flushed again with about 30 litres of filtered water and brought the runoff down to just under 0.5.
Now a dry down for another 2-3 days in darkness and then the chop!
Unfortunately the run had some trouble with excessive heat, lights too close to plants and ph stability issues. The plant fox tailed a lot and led to nothing but fluff. Lots of hash to be made.
Overall I think the outcome could have been better. During the flowering the trichomes were abundant and had a fantastic smell. But the bud structure was terrible in the end.
For an autoflower this was a beast. Large colas with dense buds and it stretched lots during early flower. Really big plant for an AF.
Unfortunately due to excessive heat during peak flower a majority of trichome production was inhibited and the end product bud tastes like dirt.
