Well, it's all about your available space and your patience for the veg stage. 16 main stems could give you a better yield, but only if each cola has enough space and gets enough light to reveal its full potential. 8 colas will be easier to manage, especially if you have many plants in the room. 8 strong healthy colas > 16 weak colas suffering from lack of light or overcrowded room.
