I'm using coco. In coco i read that it should be every single time, im doing it and i think that my plants are fine. With a run off 10-20%. I fertilize them when the coco looks dry. Maybe 3-4 times in a week. I don't have an scheduled to fertilizing, i just see how the coco looks. I grow on decent soil and do not start fertilizing until week 1 or 2 of flowering. I also only use 50% of the recommended amount and feed every second watering. In later flowering every watering.
