Why lower water ph for soilless medium? Isn't it make more sense to raise water ph since soiless medium is around 5.9 ph out of the bag??

Hi,out of curiosity, why do we lower PH to 5.5-6 for soilless? For example, if I am using peat moss (it count as soilless - out of the bag its around 5.5-6 ph) But when we water to it, we have to lower to 5.5-6 just like hydro. Isn't we suppose to raise the water ph instead???

Hi gmslave, tank you for the respond. How long until my lime run out? I am at glowering stage and 5-6 more weeks to go before harvest. I understand that if I introduce new lime into it, it will take too long to break it down for any benefits. My watering style is feed until I see runoff. I am now scare that I might run out off lime buffer and mess up my ph.

Soiless is a form of hydroponics. Peat has had ph buffers introduced which helps the medium maintain the ph you put into it. 5.8 is the ideal range for soiless but when in flower you bring it up to 6.2 6.3 and the medium will increase the ph as you increase. Water or flush to much and you will also flush out the lime buffers and your ph will no longer be stable in the medium. Ph is your most important factor besides the light provided. Cheers friend
