Hey there fellow growers! I noticed some fungus gnats in my tent. I’m growing In Coco and am using organic dry fertilizers. How can I get rid of these pests without destroying the microbial life in the medium? Any tips and advice is appreciated! Happy Growing Cheers 🌱🎄🔥

Couple ideas of what some already said. You can put some vinegar in a small dish, add a drop of dish soap, cover it with plastic wrap and poke small holes in it. Leave it in your tent and the gnats will go for it. Yellow sticky traps work great too. Cut them in small strips, peel one side off and leave them on your soil, sticky side up. Diatomaceous earth works also but isn’t as effective once it gets wet. Above all else, the topsoil needs to dry out before watering again. A constantly wet topsoil is perfect for gnats. These should help for now but I’d recommend a couple soil amendments for your next run. Neem meal and crab meal are excellent amendments for pest prevention. I do all organic dry amendments and build my own soil. Since adding these to my mix, I haven’t seen a fungus gnat in over a year. I still keep sticky traps in the tent but none of them have any pests on them.

Sorry, just remembered you're in coco. Don't let it dry out completely, but don't keep it soaked either. Find that happy color medium in between dark and wet and light and crispy.

If it's just a few, proper watering will resolve the issue. You need to let the topsoil dry at least an inch down before watering, otherwise you're just advertising apartments to the little buggers. They don't have a long life so proper watering could take care of your issue in less than a week. If you want to speed up the process, put a cup with a lid and straw hole in the grow area. Put about a third of a banana in the cup with the peel still intact. Push the straw hole in slightly with your pinky, creating an easy entry point, but tough escape route. A good chunk of them will fly into the cup within a day. I dont recommend keeping spoiling fruit in your tent any longer than that though. And really, this shouldnt be necessary but you will probably sleep better.

Diatomaceous Earth is your organic, non toxic solution. Any soft bodied insect like gnats that land on a surface where you dust DE will die. DE acts like tiny razor blades to their exoskeleton so it basically dehydrates them. Super badass, organic, and effective. Just make sure you do not inhale any Diatamaceous Earth dust particles - wear a mask/respirator - and eye protection. You won’t need much - you can easily find it online or at your local animal feed store. Top dress your grow medium and also apply directly to foliage assuming you aren’t in late flower. Good luck
