I mean generally when you top or FIM you slow growth. Less so with FIM though. So worst case your plant tries to recover from FIM, takes a week or 2, your plant barely stretched because it was recovering, flower production is behind or lacking. Best case it barely affects it and causes all growth tips to start growing more before stretch. 2nd option has higher odd when done in veg, or early flower. As time goes on your gonna get closer to option 1 in my opinion. Without pics though, no idea which way your grow is leaning towards.

You'll be fine first few days of preflower. If you wait too long you're going to stop the stretch and end up with some super stubby plants- not necessarily a bad thing if you're short on space, but your yield will be affected if they have the room to grow normally.
