Saturday 27, 2023 Day 22 This week is a focus on training. I added about 250 ml of water with recharge only. I just want to get it in the soil. I'll be dosing by the beginning of every week. I'll be cleaning reservoirs every 2 weeks. Strawberry Gorilla: She has taken to her FIMing swimmingly... I think. Her leaves are growing straight up and have great color. It honestly doesn't seem like it did anything. Side branches are still going strong. I'll be pulling those down in no time as well. Gorilla Cookies: She took perfectly to her first LST tie down. I had to make a slight adjustment to keep the canopy level today though. She of course didn't seem to have any issues. I'll check on her in a couple hours. She's definitely super healthy and strong. Great stem, beautiful lush green leaves that are getting bigger and bigger. From what I understand, this strain loves to eat. I should be able to keep up though. The light distance went down 1" so the intensity increased. DLI: 24mol/m²/d Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.9° RH: 68.2% VPD: 1.04 kPa September 28, 2023 Both ladies got reservoir refills today with the full nutrient workup. There's some left of each gallon, so those will go top feed in a few days. Strawberry Gorilla: So the FIM seems to have worked and the plant doesn't seem to have been slowed down at all. I hope I did it all right. Maybe it was perfect and it's showing? Either way, I see no signs of stress. Her leaves are getting huge. I'm honestly not sure when I should start LST. Gorilla Cookies: She has taken to her training perfectly. No need to make adjustments today. Tomorrow she will definitely need some though. Great color and very well proportioned. Update: I decided to do some very small adjustments to Gorilla Cookies tie down. I saw opportunity. So it's done. More than likely I'll need to do it again tomorrow. Branches are getting longer and will be ready for training in no time. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.5° RH: 64.7% VPD: 1.09 kPa September 29, 2023 Not much going on today. No watering needed, no training needed. Both plants look great. Strawberry Gorilla: I believe the FIM was a success. The top looks like there are multiple shoots. I posted a pic. Maybe I'm wrong. Opinions? Anyway, the leaves are lush and full. Branches are growing nicely. I'm not exactly sure how to go about tie downs with the FIM though. Should I bend the whole plant? Should I train just the branches down and then pull the top shoots out? Or should I not touch her until the FIM does it's work? Maybe I'll ask. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is looking great! She's healthy, strong and those leaves are nice and full. It has great color and is taking quite well to the training. I'll keep an eye out before training. I think I'm going to wait for the branches to get longer before doing any further training. Maybe keep the top down for now, but she top stem is too weak to hold her down. For now at least. Update: After inspecting the Gorilla Cookies, I have noticed white hairs. Pre-flower this early? I guess she has like 5 nodes now. With a 1 gallon grow bag. Let's hope for massive growth in the next couple of weeks. I honestly don't expect much from either plant in such small containers, but maybe if I do it perfectly, I can get a good few ounces. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.3° RH: 65.5% VPD: 1.10 kPa September 30, 2023 Both ladies got about 250 ml of top watering with the nutrients today. I noticed the soil by the stems was dry. So I added some water to get the moisture up and to not let the soil do that anti water thing. Strawberry Gorilla: I finally had the opportunity to start training this one. The FIM isn't quite there yet, but the bend went perfect. So we shall see how it does. Plus, it was starting to get taller than the Gorilla Cookies. Now they are nearly level in height. She is big though. Bigger than the Gorilla Cookies and bigger than the other 2 Strawberry Gorillas in the main tent. No idea what to think about this. It kinda seems like the FIMing is better than the LST for this strain? We shall see. Gorilla Cookies: This one is doing fantastic with her training. She received an adjustment today. The canopy will remain level for the rest of the grow. She's also near identical to the 2 in the main tent. She's super healthy and I expect great things coming from this one. Although both plants are in 1 gallon containers, they are doing just as well and are roughly the same size as the 4 in the main tent with them being in 5 gallon containers. Let's see how things go. I expect some vigorous growth over the next 3 to 4 weeks. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.8° RH: 70.2% VPD: 0.96 kPa October 1, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She stood straight up last night regardless of the tie down. I made the adjustment needed and brought the tops down again. I'll let her stand up again and then start working on side branches. That won't be for another day or 2. This plant is the biggest of the 6 I have running right now. Huge leaves, great color and strong stem. No watering today. Gorilla Cookies: This lady looks great. Training is perfectly fine. Not much growth though. Kind of stagnant at the moment. I can only assume it's the calm before the storm. Plus the 2 in the main tent are doing just about the exact same thing. So no worries there. No watering today. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.3° RH: 68% VPD: 1.01 kPa October 2, 2023 No water needed for either plant today. I've got a bit of a concern. These 2 are the largest and furthest along amongst the total of 6 plants I'm running. All 4 in the main tent are still small with still short branches I can't train yet. It's very odd. Would it be due to the 1 gallon container size compared to 5 gallon? I'm sure that makes a difference, but where is the vigor in the main tent? I wonder if I need more light or less. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is super vigorous. She had a few branches pulled down as well as some of the big fan leaves. She now has a nice open level canopy. I don't plan on defoliation until I see more foliage. She's bushy and compact now, but in a week, she will be tall. Then I can consider defoliation. I'm still confused as to how this is the largest plant of the entire crop. FIMed, trained and in a tiny pot. One would thong the LST trained plants would be bigger. I must have done something very right with her. Gorilla Cookies: This one also had her branches pulled down today as well as the top again. The canopy is almost level. Just have to wait for some more branches to stretch up a bit. UPDATE: I nearly topped Gorilla Cookies. I should have left well enough alone. I caught it about half broken. I hope she heals up quickly. Second time this has happened. Whoops Second Update: after more inspection of both plants, I believe they are both in pre-flower. Makes sense. Smaller pots hit the bottom faster. I guess? They're fabric pots. What a horrible time to accidentally top a plant. Damn. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.6° RH: 70.9% VPD: 0.90 kPa October 3, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is ridiculous. She's bushy and vigorous. Great color. Lush leaves. Training was kind of a chore with all the large fan leaves. I tied the main fan leaves down under the branches, then tied the branches out as well as I could. The top of this plant is loaded with tops. I pulled the newest shoot down to continue letting the side branches grow. I think I'll leave the top alone after this. Hopefully it stays level with the side branches. Very nice indeed. The reservoir emptied last night and I woke up to a light container. I dumped a liter of nutrients top feed. I'll clean and refill the reservoir tomorrow. Gorilla Cookies: Ok, so the broken top stood straight up overnight. It's not healed yet, so I really can't pull the main branch down anymore. I did pull the side branches out to the edge of the container to start getting more outer growth. It looks good for the most part. I'm just going to end up with a main cola instead of several. My mistake has consequences. I could have just pulled the whole top at that point and kept the plant level. I think this is better. She also got a reservoir refill. She wasn't light, but the reservoir had just emptied. So perfect timing. Both plants are definitely in pre-flower. And have been for a day or 2. Now for the flowering stretch. I'm honestly expecting Strawberry Gorilla to take over the tent. I may have to really defoliate her just to give the branches more space and light while not crowding Gorilla Cookies. Grow System Environment: Temp: 78.9° RH: 67.7% VPD: 1.11 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

Prilyfe13commenteda year ago
@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
