Indi_growgirl is right, you can certainly get "regular" autos which have a chance of being either male or female. Most of the rest she wrote is correct, except for the part she thought was bs too, about the roots of autos flowering, that when the roots hit "obstacles", that this causes flowering. Autos will flower regardless of how much light there is and flower "automatically" when the reach a certain age - roughly 2-5 weeks after germination. Cannabis Ruderalis, which is responsible for the auto flowering genes, come from northern Russia where the warm summer season is very short, so as a survival instinct they have evolved to flower as soon as possible, 2-5 weeks after germination. This early flowering allows the plants to make viable seeds before winter starts again. Photoperiod (fem) seeds and "regular" photo seeds rely on lengthening night/dark periods and shortening day/light periods to trigger flowering - as in Fall/Autumn is approaching. Photoperiod are usually better yielding plants and generally easier to get good results with, so if you are more comfortable with these, I would suggest that you continue with them. Personally, after experimenting with autos and being an outdoor grower, I think I will stick with photo fems. Autos are better suited to those with cheap electricity and lots of lights, otherwise they can stay too compact before flowering starts. Hope this helps... Organoman.

Regular or photoperiod marijuana strains depend on the changing seasons when the days get shorter to signal that it’s time to flower or if grown indoors on the gardener to flip to a 12/12 light schedule. Autoflowering strains are bred with the ruderalis plant which is known for its automatic flowering ability. Therefore autos rather then depending on the seasons or light schedule flower with age and will start to flower around week 3-4 regardless of light schedule. They are thought to be simple to grow for beginners, tend to stay much smaller then photoperiod plants and yield less as well. I also read somewhere that they are signaled to flower once the roots hit a blockage or obstacle and it kind of made sense as I grew an auto one time and started in a small starter pot and my plant started flowering at two weeks old it was so tiny so idk how true that last part is but anyhow , and no not all autos are feminized seed true that most are but not all as I have myself purchased autos and got a few males out of them . Anyway hope this helps have a good one 👍

Autos means you don't need to change the light schedule for them to flower, Autos are fems. photoperiod fems is not auto and will need to change the light schedule and take a lil bit more time but the yield is way better.
