Soil has nutrients and is a "living" substrate. Coco coir and perlite are not soil, but inert substances that have no nutritional value at all. Coir is ground up coconut husks, perlite is expanded volcanic "glass" that does contain some trace elements, however, both these substances are incapable of supporting plant life without adding nutrients. Perlite is also a non renewable resource with finite global availability. Mixing your soil with one third of coir/perlite mix per volume should provide you with an ideal substrate for auto flower cultivation. That is - two thirds soil and one third coir/perlite, all mixed together thoroughly and not in layers. Hope this helps,.... Organoman.
