Kekkeanswered grow question 4 years ago Leaf miner
The leaf miners are very small, black and yellow colored flies with a body size of two to three millimeters. The adult female leaf miner flies create a hole in the leaf with the help of their laying spines. From this they suck the emerging sap or cover it with eggs, from which larvae hatch.
The larvae produce the typical damage pattern for leafminers, the mining passage. The larvae of the leaf miners have a special way of eating their way through the infested leaves, because they mine through the leaves. This is where the name of the leaf miner comes from.
The leaf miner mostly occurs when growing outdoors. It just flies through the air 😉 If it occurs indoors, it is advisable to provide all supply air openings with fly screens.
Leaf miners are difficult to control outdoors with the sole use of chemical plant protection measures. It is advisable to use beneficial insects (parasitic wasps) and yellow tablets! A close-knit culture protection network could also help.
