Started these ladies out in the classic paper towel method, but will be growing in living soil, any suggestions on what stage should the transplant happen? The soil has been cooking for the last 4 weeks

Best time to do it is as soon as the seed splits and the root emerges, this will limit the risk of damaging the root when transplanting. Waiting too long and letting the rot grow more than a few millimetres increases the risk of damage to the root when transplanting and once damaged, your seedling will suffer greatly at this early and formative age. Bury the seed about 5-7 millimetres deep and with the root pointing downwards, and carefully tamp the soil down gently, so that it is in good contact with the seed, then water in. Do not use a sprayer, syringe or shot glass to water your seedling, water needs to penetrate 10 centimetres down to enable the root to grow downwards. It is best to use a watering can fitted with a rose or a hose and "sprinkler". Remember to water deeply and every few/couple of days rather than a little bit often, which does nothing other than preventing death. There is no need to cover your seedling with anything or create a "sweat lodge" with excessive humidity, your seedling will need good air exchange to grow properly. There is also no need to spray the seedling with water, this can lead to fungal problems. Congratulations for planning ahead and having prepared the soil, your plants will love you for this effort! Hope this helps,......... Organoman.
