CBD plants produce trichomes/resin just like "normal" cannabis plants, just the chemical composition is different.
"Normal" plant trichomes are high in THC and obviously the trichomes of CBD type plants are low in THC and high in CBD.
If your plants are not producing trichomes, then you either have a problem with your grow techniques/set up or the plants you are using are of poor quality genetics. I have grown a few CBD plants in the past that were just as sticky as any other type of good quality buds and making "finger hash" was no problem at all. Sweet Seeds have some CBD plants with very fine genetics, which I can recommend highly. Other than good genetics, investing in the best possible lights you can afford is probably the biggest single factor for getting your plants to pump out the trichomes. Naturally good nutrition and hydration are also important, as are good sized pots that will provide the room for good root systems to develop.
Combining these few principles should see you harvest CBD flowers just as trichome loaded as any plant. I would also suggest growing photoperiod CBD plants for best potential results and forget about growing any sort of auto flowering CBD plants, as I believe their (auto flowering) short and rapid flowering cycle doesn't really give the plants the proper time and growth structure to produce prime CBD laden trichomes/resin. There may be good auto flowering types on the market now, but for yield and overall quality, you really can't beat photoperiod plants.
Hope this helps,...........
