What is the best way to keep humidity and temp constant for my seedlings? My desklamp + heating mat + solocup and dome are too variable. How can I improve?

I should have read your question properly! They need more light, more air circulation and no humidity domes. I would be replanting these seedlings into larger pots and burying them up to half an inch below the cotyledons/round leaves, this will provide a lot more support and in time, the buried portion of stem will sprout roots and contribute to over all plant health. If you are only using a desk light, this is your biggest problem, they need quality growing lights to thrive. Cheers, Organoman.

Cannabis is a remarkably tough and resilient plant and does not really need "Princess Perfect" conditions to thrive and it is not a dainty, fragile or demanding plant to grow. They certainly do not need "humidity domes", they need good air exchange to germinate and good air circulation once sprouted to strengthen the fibres in their stems, 2 things that do not occur inside "humidity domes" The only time cannabis actually NEEDS extra humidity is when they are clones or cuttings which have been separated from the donor plant and whilst waiting for roots to form. They will be just fine without "humidity domes" and heat pads are not really needed either, unless you are growing mid winter and temps are quite low. They also do not NEED constant temps to germinate, they are perrfectly adapted to withstand the differences between day and night temps and have been doing so since time began. While I am at it, those "solo cups" are barely adequate for more than two or three days growth - just because "everyone uses them" does not make them suitable. Black plastic pots about 4 inches across and 5 inches deep are far more sensible, this size pot will hold enough substrate and provide enough room for roughly 3 weeks of unimpeded root growth and it is this early unimpeded root growth which forms the base upon which your plants can flourish. The tiny "solo cups" will be limiting root growth by the second or third day, basically hindering growth and getting your seedlings off to a bad start. A plants roots are usually 2-3 times as deep as the plant is tall, and this is why it should be easy to see why "solo cups" are such a poor choice. It seems a lot of people want to grow the biggest plants as possible then strangely start them in half full thimbles! Honestly, I have been growing for 35+ years and starrting plants in tiny cups is the worst possible start in life for a cannabis plant. I have tried 100s of ideas and the 4 inch by 5 inch pots are the absolute minimum size I would recommend. Heat pads may sound impressive, but the difference they make when growing at any reasonable temperature range is maybe a few minutes earlier. Cannabis seedlings/sprouts can only happen so fast and a heat pad and a constant temp will not make any difference that is noticeable as ever the temps are not near freezing. Like most things in life, the simple things are often the best. Invest in decent pots, which can be washed and re-used for years, buy the best soil you can afford, keep the seeds moist but not wet and at a sensible heat range and they will germinate and grow just as well as if using all the fancy equipment available. Cannabis has thrived for Millenia uncared for and under adverse conditions perfectly fine, indicating it does not really need pampering. All she really needs is plenty of room for root growth, decent soil and adequate moisture and to be left alone to do its own thing until sprouted. As I said, the simple things in life are often the best. "Humidity domes", while absolutely not being needed, can also cause many problems, such as the high humidity possibly leading to fungal diseases such as damping off, which is fatal, the higher temps inside the dome causing stretching/lankiness and/or the higher temps can actually "cook" the seedlings, which again is fatal. All my seedlings are grown in soil, outdoors, from day one and just kept moist until they emerge and I have reached a stage whereby I achieve at least a 98% germination success, so growing indoors with a more stable environment should be even easier. Your seedlings really don't need extravagant equipment or conditions to germinate, just remember, moist and not wet. And whatever you do, do not let them dry out and as long as your seeds are fresh, you should achieve close to 100% germination without having to try too hard. I am a big believer in the K.I.S.S. principle and so is cannabis, of that I am sure! Good luck and happy growing, no need to make complications for you or your seedlings! Hope this helps, Organoman.

Yeah, I'd worry less about the environmental and more about the light. They've stretched well more than they should have. Seeds and seedlings 'in the wild' don't have constant temp/humidity either...they're designed to have some inconsistency.

You need a better light. They’re long and stickly which is a sign of lack of light, they’re stretching to find it and that’s why you have to prop them up. A seedling that has proper lighting stands on own two feet. If you want to grow anything of value. You need to invest in a proper grow light. If it’s not pushing 900 PPFD minimum you’re wasting your time. Do some research and buy the best grow light your budget can afford you.
