I'm just wondering the the curling on the cotyledons are an anomaly caused by my mistake or is it normal behaviour for some seedling to grow certain ways?

Your issues are definitely from overwatering. It is usually not a good idea to put your starter cubes or pellets into dwc until you have a good size taproot coming out of the bottom. It is really easy to suffocate them until the roots come out. I would take it out for a day or so and let it dry out. Good luck with her!

Hey there so from my experience I've had both looking seedlings. Both styles have turned out nicely regardless so i dont think you've done anything wrong or anything to worry about. Also typically the cotyledons will discolor and fall off or shrivel up eventually anyways and aren't very important past that beginning stage. I think if your pods were too wet seedlings would more likely be very discolored and possibly die completely in a fairly short time, so maybe let those dry a bit just to be safe. every seed is unique, even from a consistent seed batch, and who knows what special quirks those 2 curly plants may show in the future. Happy growing

You answered yourself: “over saturated jiffy pellet”. You can have embryonic leaves that are different that on another but you are having issues with the fact your pellets are soaked all the time depriving your plants roots system to expand and which can lead to other issues down the road. As for the Cal-Mag use very little at this point your seedlings require very minimal minerals. Best of luck you have the GD community support.

Hey there, i have to disagree with the folks on this one. the curling is indicative or root problems probably cause from not follow a strict wet dry cycle. As previously said, you should wait until you have a decent tap root poking out before placing in the DWC, but what i'm most concerned about is the discoloration on the outside edge of the cotelydon and first leaf, this is a symptom of magnesium deficiency, which i guess is a lockout in your case. My best advice is start over as these plants might be stunted , next time, as long as it's in the root cube, just water with plain water, and if you really want to give food to the babies, try spraying twice a week with kelp extract rather than watering with feed at this early stage (you can add your cal mag in the foliar spray too). The uptake through the leaves is much more efficient first of all, and at the seedling stage there's more leaf that root so it really helps on the spray. Sorry about the bad news, but it's my level best lol Hope this helps ! 🚀
