I've not done BSF specifically, but i've grown both of those gens and I can tell you they are not the loudest, but sometimes they can put out quite a smell. If you're asking about if you need something like a carbon filter, well that also depends on the number of plants you're doing, but in general i would say : yes, definitely have a filter because you dont want to bother the neighbors with this kind of hobby you get me? hope this helps ! 🚀

A good indicator if they will be smelly is if, from the size you have them and while they continue to veg, they are already giving off a smell. It's a good characteristic to select a regular for a cross, for example.
