Not a stupid question at all. This is tatic growers use when growing regular seeds or phenos they are not familiar with. Its called sexing. What you do is switch a plant into flower for a few days to a week until it shows sex get rid of the males and keep the females then switch the lights back to 18/6 and your good to veg again that is also called a reveg. It will take a plant around 2-3 weeks to fully go back to a veg state and it will stress the plant alot. So its best off only really done as last resort. The flowering will slowley stop and you should expected mutated pistil formation and other strange things if you do this. You can crop a single plant 10 times using this method if your willing to wait that is :) best of luck :)
