I think growing in soil gives you the best protection. Mother Nature can pretty much take care. The further you stray from a plant in dirt and into technology the more a loss of power will affect you.
Other than that... I have an automatic standby generator... and a manual backup backup generator... and if things go really bad a PTO powered generator powered by a tractor.

A power outage for a day doesn't usually hurt the plant. If its more than a day, I'll put plants in windows for light.
