Everything from environment to lighting to nutrients ect govern the growth of your plants! Even clones cut at the same time from the same mother grown under different conditions will grow out differently. That being said if he didnt top his then he would get alot more vertical growth due to apex dominance.
When u top the plant u break that dominance and get alot more side branching going on. Was yours bushier than his?
Was his grown outdoors or under stronger grow lights.
U could have stunted her topping it but I believe theres more to it than that. Height at which u switch to flower also plays a huge role in the final height. Were yours alot smaller when thrown into flower?

Topping will usually produce a shorter wider plant that overall produces more buds. This is a benefit to indoor growers as it can be hard to find space for 8ft plants plus head room for lighting. I would compare the overall yield from the plants not the height.

@Daoomph They look very good mate Your dad may just have a few tricks up his sleeve and even tho you had the same seeds he may have even had a different phenotype that grew bigger naturally Was his grow outdoors?
That would also explain the height diiference All in all yours looks to have been very well grown

Preventative Neem Oil Application for Newbiesin the past, I've had pest problems. this time, I'm acting preventatively.
I applied neem oil solution in a spray bottle to my seedlings and soil. leaves seemed burned afterwards.

Origin and Mitigation of Springtails? in a well cleaned and active in and out air with filters on each side prevention help.I experimented with flowering in one gallon pots of coco and perlite. I see a lot of spring tails show up when i water. I have never seen this in my grows, I clean my grow area before a new grow. I used fresh coco and perlite. Pests bites from leaves?I think I’ve got pests my two top cola branches have got what look like bites taken out of their fan leaves. I’m hoping someone might know what the cause is I’m thinking it’s a caterpillar, but I’m unsure on how to identify it or get rid of it.
