First time I'm using air pots. I always empty the trays with runoff water (if there is any) and I noticed the roots on the bottom side. They seem rather long? I was under the assumption they would be 'air pruned'?

I don’t grow in airpots myself but I understand how they work. If the long roots are only on the underside of the pot, that's fine... they just haven't been exposed to the air and therefore haven't been "pruned" ... none of them, however, should be seen growing wider than the diameter of the pot ... in other words, I'm sure you're not seeing them creep out from under the pot when it's sitting on the tray. They're actually getting pruned when they TRY to grow wider than the pot - you just don't notice it! (And btw DutchDoobie, when your profile says you’ve got 4 diaries and one is mushrooms, one is a building project, one is a one-week harvest “report” and the other one show plants growing in ordinary plastic pots, you really shouldn’t be lying to this grower… just tell them you know how the airpots work and explain it!) Good luck with the grow Jezbong,… looks great so far!

The soil can fall out easily. I'm not the only person that does this. It's not foil. its fabric. But if you have an issue please DM me, this is not the place.

Yes m0use so the airpot manufactory did work a lot of years to create the perfect growing pot for soil... But a grower on growdiaries has the solution to make this pot better with some foil... Just believe what you want but I hope that you understand that they created everything about this pot with a reason. Your roots look great and your plant will become big and strong. Don't overthink growing, a plant only needs oxygen, moist and some nutrients and she will do the rest of the work 😋

Good question, normally the roots would be pruned in the air pot, but the bottom side of the pot stays quite wet or its the last to dry. Air pruneing works by dry air killing the tip of the root. then it shrink back a bit. So if they are always in moist environment they will grow long and outside of the pot like other plants in other pots because the environment allows for it. You could trim them but if they are super long that might shock the plant, if its a photoperiod plant its fine if its an auto I would leave them be. One thing to note with air pots is they are prone to drying to fast giving all the surface area exposed to air, they evaporate real quick. Its a good idea to water them twice a day if needed in smaller amounts vs one large watering. Its also a good idea to place a circle of fabric at the base of the pot to prevent it from draining to quickly. I use polyester fabric from a reusable grocery bag. works excellent. You can always reuse the runoff in a regular garden in the soil by diluting it a lot and then its like a glass of OJ in the morning for the plants. refreshing and tasty with a bit of energy to start the day :D Best Of Luck! ***disclaimer, multiple people are answering all questions as there is a contest called GOTM, when a user is selected as the answer they get a point. Grannie is stuck in her menopause... anyways after that she copied my answer so as long as Jezbong get the answer that this is totally normal we did what we had to do. And Granny to answer you I do only use airpots when I use soil for coco or hydro I use other pots and mediums. Happy Growing everyone 😋

High Jezbong, I always use airpots and the bottom will always have roots sticking out of the bottom tray. The bottom is (direct) light free, wind free and moist. For that reason the roots can grow under the pot. You will not see that on the holes in the sides because there is light, wind and not enough moist. The airpots are a beautiful invention and I will never use other pots again! Happy Growing! 😋
