Good question, normally the roots would be pruned in the air pot, but the bottom side of the pot stays quite wet or its the last to dry. Air pruneing works by dry air killing the tip of the root. then it shrink back a bit.
So if they are always in moist environment they will grow long and outside of the pot like other plants in other pots because the environment allows for it. You could trim them but if they are super long that might shock the plant, if its a photoperiod plant its fine if its an auto I would leave them be. One thing to note with air pots is they are prone to drying to fast giving all the surface area exposed to air, they evaporate real quick. Its a good idea to water them twice a day if needed in smaller amounts vs one large watering. Its also a good idea to place a circle of fabric at the base of the pot to prevent it from draining to quickly. I use polyester fabric from a reusable grocery bag. works excellent.
You can always reuse the runoff in a regular garden in the soil by diluting it a lot and then its like a glass of OJ in the morning for the plants. refreshing and tasty with a bit of energy to start the day :D
Best Of Luck!
