Yes I would go in a be very selective in choosing only Leaves that are blocking Light from lower buds. Hope this helps

Yes, yes you should. Always defoliate leaves that cover potential bud nodes. They are counterproductive to why you're growing in the first place. Also, if you haven't already, look into lollipopping. It really helps plants. I hope this helps.

For light penetration and airflow. Leaves are like solar panels and if they are covered, they are not working very well. I normally try to clean the bottom and top and leave a layer of leaves in the middle. My 2c with defoliation is cut the leaf a few mm away from the stem and the leftover bit will dry out and fall off, if you cut on the stem or pluck, you can leave a bigger wound that can lead to trouble.

Most definitely, leave the outer ones that are not blocking light to any buds. I have done defoliation many times and seems the better I defoliate the bigger the end yield. Also a wise man told me defoliate to the point you think you took too much off…..then go back and defoliate some more lol
