Yep, you want to support them. The weight of the buds could crack a joint where the branch is connected to the plant. That's terrible news, considering water sits there every time it rains. That water has a chance of holding botrytis, which is also known as bud rot.
Bud rot infiltrates the plant through wounds on branches and the stalk of the plant. It's not from too much moisture getting into a bud, contrary to popular belief.
So, give your plant a nice long shake after each rain, or even heavy dew in the morning, to help prevent branches cracking or breaking. And make sure to stabilize your floppycock branches!
