my tip.. when it feels dry on outside.. it needs 24 hours more, give or take... your ambient temps and RH will have a drastic effect on that suggestion. if exceedingly warm and dry, maybe 12 hours longer. As long as you avoid drying it super fast, it shouldn't smell or taste like hay. stem snapping just shows it's quite dry all the way through.. the size of stem would drasticalyl impact how soon that occurs.. what size branch do we use? as long as you are consistent with this, you can learn to use it as a landmark for dryness. just something you have to learn if you care to use it as a signal for dryness. Many put buds into jars... if it becomes moist on surface again after sealing for a while you defnitely want to remove them all to dry longer. all this will do is breed microbes or it'll start to smell like pickles... i'm not a fan of too much "sweating" in jars for this reason... unless it is a quick process and careful not to linger in an o2 deprived jar with excess moisture. if sealed, make sure you check for this as well as refresh air in jars until buds have reached their fully dried state, preferably at equilibrium with 55-62% RH and mid to upper 60s F... anaerobic growth is bad. O2 does degrad thc but anaerobic growth is far worse... light is the primary enemy in regard to maintaining potency in first 6-12 months. longer you need to consider colder temps for storage or maybe vacuum sealing. once they reach equilibrium, you still want to air anything out occasionally, but nothing like early on. more important for longer storage. if you smoke everything with 3-6 months it won't matter much at all. get some 55-62% 2-way boveda packs some mason jars and call it a day. i've tried integra boost humidity packs for a while now... i think they are inferior brand. they either release/absorb at a slower rate or something to that effect it seems. My 59% bevedas (whatever upper 50s% they sell) seems to keep the buds a bit moister than the 62% integra packs. i will be going back the the 55-59% bovedas as i run out.

That fully depends on the branch and bud. It's a myth imo that it's ready once the stem snaps. I can go inside my tent now and snap a few stems, they are alive months away from being ready to smoke. How long was it drying for ? We've all been too eager to smoke up at times and give it a try. My dry time is always 10-14 days. I know then it's definitely dry and ready for a test smoke and a cure.

Ciao!
