Help with root containment - How would you solve or battle this?

The roots grow through the net bucket and a mesh net I use for containment. Micron size too big, roots grew through. The mesh bag was a 2nd attempt at root containment. 3rd attempt will be very fine micron mesh screen. What could be a good way to deal with this?

They're gonna grow through the micron ones, too. root hairs are outgrowths of epidermal cells between 15 and 17 micrometers in diameter when fully grown. I wouldn't bother trying to contain them, rather solve clogging issues via other means

The reason I wanted to contain the roots is because they are and have grown up against the drainage holes. They are impeding draining and I need to prevent that. In the back of my mind I kind of knew the mesh bags wouldn't work because I have seen photos of the roots growing through cloth bags. 15-17 micrometers beats it. I can't go below 37 micron mesh bag otherwise water transfer is going to be greatly impeded. Water starts backing up flowing out of a bag under 37 micron. I tested with rosin bags and my faucet lol and need something between 37 and 75. I just need to figure out a band-aid fix to this to get me through flower and I will rework this all somehow. I just don't know how to contain the roots and stop them from clogging the draining holes. Now they have grown through the bags to the point where the bags cannot be removed.

great looking roots, If you apply a finer mesh on top of that one it might impede oxygenated water flow to the ones in the centre and cause a bit of rot. I would trim them or leave it as is. Good Luck!

I get what your trying to do but you will struggle to keep the roots in the bucket. Either trim any roots that come out the holes of the bucket, or you could try a copper disc. I think and I'm not sure but you would have to look it up but I'm sure iv seen system's where they use copper discs to stop roots going out the base of a pot.

You can use root pruning. But do not just start pruning. Read this article from the Zamnesia website. It describes everything you need to know about root pruning. How to do it, why you should do it and when you should do it. Here is the link; https://www.zamnesia.com/grow-weed/237-increase-cannabis-yields-with-root-pruning

Why is it you want to contain the roots? Let them grow! That being said, a friend here on GD is a staunch advocate of trimming the roots of his hydroponic grows - claims doing so increases his yields and although I haven't tried it, I would say trim away... Good luck!

roots can grow through thick fabric pots. No mesh will stop that, given range of common sense.... is this to keep it off of a airstone or pump? just assuming there is a need one way or another. Can always trim them up too... thin out the root mass, but i'd find another way. Or, at least trim it off any airstone.
