What is the best pot size and type for auto flowers? Is there a difference in yield? I'm using 5 gallon air pots in 3'x3' tent.

High Susan, you want to prevent root bounding inside the pot for that reason you want a type of pot that breathes to air prune the roots. This will not only prevent root bounding but also stimulates the plant to shoot more roots inside the pot. I use air pots and smart pots and I personally prefer smart pots above air pots. The roots grow through the fabric and when finished a grow the roots look thicker and more developed than all the other pots that I've tried included the air pots. But there are many reasons how large a plant can grow that includes the size of the pot and your pots are really big and that is perfect for the amount of plants and the size of your grow space. I prefer more plants in smaller pots to keep them small and create a SOG instead of a few larger plants. In my opinion smaller plants in large amounts are easier to manage and when you lose some on the way it doesn't really decrease the yield. So that was just the pot and that the size of the pot can control how large a plant can grow. But for a large harvest you want to give them enough light, the right amount and type of nutrition's during the whole grow and a lot of love 😘

Hi, buddy! I use 2 gallons for autoflowers, but with combo mineral-organic feeding. My plants are always between 50 and 70 cm (about 2 ft) high, and that's just perfect for me. If you want to do organic feeding, 4 to 5 gallons are better. Also, if you don't have the time to handwater every 2 days, bigger is better. ;) Depends really on your plans. Not every grower has the same goal. Some grow for medicine, some grow for quantity, some want to see as many strains as possible.. Have a lot of fun growing!!

The pot size is about right for autos and it being a airpot will stop it getting rootbound, airpots are excellent just a little expensive but easy to clean and re use.

Airpots are supposed to be really good (they SHOULD be, they're expensive!!) .. I've never tried them myself but those who have say they do a magnificent job... Good luck with your grows!

I love Air Pots, those or fabric has been good to me. And all plants prefer to have more oxygen at the roots, I know autos are good for those. Better question for the breeder to relic similar environments that their mother had, due to passing down of genetics through what is called Epigenetics. Given that most breeders use salt nutrients, have limited space, so the mother is passing all of that information down to her children. Like the Temps she received, the type of lighting, how well she was treated, they even know how many plants are near them.. My point is, grow that out and Clone those girls. Then regrow that exact phenotype, this is truly the best way to learn what your specific cultivar prefers. Just my two cents, Epigenetic is science based info, check it out and go down that rabbit hole, it's a good one! Best, The Fatty McCoy
