When do you start counting days of Flower? At the flip to 12/12 or at the first definite signs of calyxes and pistils?

People will argue, because people. I'll guarantee better results if you start counting when you start seeing pistils. Usually around 2 weeks after switch. Anyone else is lying. You can check through any grow on here and prove this.

For photoperiods, the breeders refer to flowering time as time from the day you flip til the day you chop. Most of these popular polyhybrid cultivars now days from seed are around 8-9 week flowerers. That means 56-63 (approximately) days from the day you change your lighting schedule to 12/12. Usually for me this breaks down to 14ish days of transition, 14ish days of stigmas filling in at bud sites, 14-21 days of bracts/“calyxes” stacking and bulking up, then finally 7-14 days of ripening and finishing. It really doesn’t matter how you count it tho, as long as you’re consistent and keep track of things. Having said that, a large majority of growers count from the day of flipping lights.

I start counting at the flip and start giving flowering nutes immediately. In the end, harvest is based off the trichome development so really day count is just a guideline on when you should start putting your eyes on your trichomes.

Well, going by breeder. They say 56 days or whatever, from point of starting of flower. Some fems can take 21 days to flip. Depends on how far you vegged them and what stage they were at, "pushing out shoot wise" but, if you truly want to know when it's best to harvest, "as I'm assuming you're asking cause you wanna go by breeders flowering time", if so, go by stigma, as that's truly flowering. Yes, there in a change.. but that time it takes to flip from 5-14 days norm, can be more in rare cases. But it's not counted as pre flower. Well, no in regards to breeders recommendations. Good luck

Day of flip. it's going into flower almost immediately at cellular level when it gets a long enough dark period. Hormonal balance is a switch. a certain hormone is produced during dark hous and when it has long enough to build up, it triggers bloom. The cells switch gears like good little soldiers.. kinda like a reflex

You can start counting whenever you want. It doesn't really matter. My advice is to be consistent in however you choose to start counting days. I start after the first night of 12 hours of darkness because the extended darkness is typically what triggers the flowering process.

Both answers are correct and it's personal preference. To me, flowering doesn't start until you have pistil and calyx growth. However, many nutrient companies tend to refer to it by the light schedule, as it makes it much easier to understand the time frames and when to swap nutrients etc. Canna for example do this. I have also done this on my grow diary entry as it makes life simpler for me and the reader. This is why seed banks will say "8-10 weeks flowering time": it's not just because different phenos take different amounts of time - it's because people all start to count flowering from different points.

You start counting when stigmata "stigma" happens, (when white pistils) start to appear at the top of your bud. Last 2 pics. growdiaries.com/diaries/166316-grow-journal-by-gottagrowsometime Good Growing
