LST and Topping

I am starting to feed them nutrients and they are growing faster lately. I am considering starting LST and topping next week. LST when it reaches 4/5 nodes, and topping above the 5th node. Do you have any tips on how to perform this the best way ? Thank you in advance !

First of all, do not even consider topping your autos... that takes VERY precise timing to be successful and if you haven't grown that particular strain before, you don't know how long she has until she goes into pre-flower.... they COULD go into pre-flower within a week and that's not enough time for her to recover and therefore she won't be able to set her flowers... you'll basically have screwed your entire grow. With autos, stick with LST or SCROG.. no topping, no mainlining, no major stress, period. You can start LST at any time... just gently pull the plant over so the nodes are exposed to the full light or as exposed as you can get them.... keep them in place and let those new branches on the exposed nodes stay exposed to the full light... that's really all there is to it... you can keep LSTing them as needed.... Good luck!

every plant can react a little differently. use any combo of both to get the job done. apical dominance is a simple thing to manipulate. Don't worry about labels or what anyone else does.. just do somethign that effectively breaks apical dominance and you will spread growth out. it can be temporary. it can be permanent for entire grow. cutting the plant will spread growth hormone to lower nodes. bending the dominant (highest node) growth tip down will spread growth hormone elsewhere. cutting is probably less efficient as you are cutting off growth that used up resources and time, but it's a small difference that is unlikely noticeable. LST can cause wasted growth too.. anyting pointing down is better to be cut off. you can also get a bit too much axillary growth in one spot and have to thin it out. trial and error.. work out a path that has the least amount of wasted growth and resources... e g - i'm new to using a scrog and will have a slightly different apporach net time to more evenly spread growth out -- i want to prune off less wasted growth next time. less wasted growth means the plant is spending resources where it matters. this will reduce vege time. It's easy to apply various techniques and actually slow your grow down. so keep track of how long it takes as well as how well it fills in the space. use that to do better next time.
