depending on size and frequency this may or may not be an option for your context.. i find topping off at at half capacity or more in my rez allows me to delay cleaning a bit longer than letting it go down to 10 gallons or so and refilling (55 gal drum). I refill at 25gal. the rez is in a different room which is cooler than grow area. the heat from powerheads that stir the water have less impact on a larger volume and i add 30-35 gallons of winter tap water that is fairly cold every 3-4 days at peak use.
the key is the temperature. if it's warmer you will have to clean more often.
also, can adjust the volume you use and just refill more frequently with fresh water. have a volume that lasts 4-5 days instead of a week. if you can't avoid it, then work around it.
adding h2o2 to the res will definitely help. not sure how much and how often, but it breaksdown fairly fast and faster in 'hard' water which is what fertilized water would be considered.
