What is the importance of having a fan on 24/7?

I have a question about fans, and more specifically how long does the fan need to be on? And is there a difference between having the fan on for 12 hours, 18 hours, or 24/7? I know I might as well leave it on 24/7, but the cheap-ass fan is kinda loud while I watch movies.

Photosynthesis. Plants breathe in co2 through the underside of it's leaves. The plant uses up the co2 around the leaf quickly and thats where the oscillating fan comes in to play. It blows away the stagnant co2 depleted air around the leaf and blows in new co2 rich air. Without this exchange the plants growth will slow considerably. The breeze also helps to strengthen stems to help down the road when they need to support the heavy flower weight by increasing the starches in the plant fibers in the stem. Another benefit to air circulation is that bugs down like windy conditions and it makes their life harder and the environment less favorable to set up shop in. Air circulation doesn't need to happen at night so there's no need to have them running during lights out. AC Infinity oscillating clip fans state in their manuals that if you run their fans 24/7 you void the warranty on the product. They need a cool down period. If you choose to run them 24/7 they will eventually start making a knocking sound and eventually the oscillating mechanism will fail and then you have a malfunctioned fan that you spent a bunch of money for but now can't claim warranty on cuz you didn't read the operation manual. So, air movement is pretty important! Hope this gave you some insight.

Hey Growmie, Fans are an incredibly important part of growing indoors, as they help to distribute all of the fresh air coming in through your air filtration system while stopping any pockets of stagnant air from forming. They also help maintain temperature, humidity, and fresh air inside the tent. In addition to an inline fan, I'd also recommend having a gentle oscillating fan in your tent.

Moves air aorund to help em breath, I do not run my clip fans 24/7 they are on timers and turn on every 15-30 min or so. My extractor is on 24/7 on low. but sometimes change it up to only turn on when a condition is met, be it high temps or RH. Wind/air movement helps strengths the stems and hardens them off so they don't snap from their own weight. When they grow outside they are not under 100% wind all the time and it fluctuates. so a timer of on/off is fine, and if you want to watch a movie, turn em off, its not going to kill the plant in 2hrs. Keep your extractor fan on low if the tent is sealed though or open its door. Good Luck!

You can stop your fans when watching movies and start them again after (don't forget). I personally don't use fans the first weeks, when the plants are still little and fragile. The exhaust is enough and the humidifier have a little fan to move droplets out. @Jays_Not_Here_Man clamp fans are f5g garbage. >< After killing too many of them in less a year, I found column fans are best suited in a grow space. I got the cheap ones, with a limited 70° oscillation, and put two of then at opposite corners and never stop them in flowering. Work like a charm for a bit more of two years now. ^^

Hey Growmie, you should ALWAYS have some type of fan/air circulation happening in your tent. I use small 6 inch clip fans, they are not loud, and don’t abuse the plants or seedlings, just enough to create air movement. The whole point of air circulation is to prevent the large volumes of moisture in the plant and from the environment from growing mold or powdery mildew. You should also have a fan drawing air into the tent from the room, and something to force air out should the temps or humidity get too high (ideally on the opposite side of your fan drawing in. This will force air from one side to the other, while your fan in the tent is circulating air. So in other words, fans are very important for air circulation, but they don’t need to be hurricane force winds. -20 for a small clip fan at a hardware or big box store will work. Good Luck Growmie! 🇨🇦👊
