PH down ?!

could be bacteria... ph-balance it as best you can. some nutes come "ph-buffered" which help reduce ph-drift... maybe, these nutes are not buffered? my pH stays rock solid and i clean my rez every 60 days and plants look fine. Never a full refill during that time, but I do refill 75% at a time back to "full" every 3 days, so it's fairly fresh water on average over time, but still not wise to do like this. Don't try to go 60 days between rez cleanings lol, if that needs to be said. the point is, if pH is drifting like crazy, it's very likely related to the product you are using not being optimal for hydro/aeroponics context - desptie any promises made by marketing material. make sure ph device is callibrated. Try an independent ph test, if possible. Maybe, it's an illusion? 5.5 is about to be a problem if it drifts any lower.. Ca will be locked out or be less available than the concentration fed should be. If you don't see symptoms start to arise below that threshold (not necessarily over night), then it may not actually be happening -- i.e. equipment error, hopfeully.

I agree with Poly, PH buffered nutrients should not be drifting to much. It might be the nutrients or the micro life. One thing that might play a role in this is when the water is being recycled it is adding in CO2 dissolved which is acidic. I would almost not adjust any PH till the solution stabilizes and then add in the PH up to offset it. Maybe do this in a separate bucket before adding to main chamber then monitor once it gets in side if its lowering again. I did have some weird bacteria in one of my grows and no matter what I did the PH would drop down into 5.0, no amount of PH up fixed it long term all temp. Good Luck!

As Polyphemus said pH perfect will help. I use them and I do check pH but it never needs altering. I'll also second making sure it calibrated correctly and regularly with a second reading from another meter to compare against. They say 5.5-6.5 for hydro so maybe set it at the top end and let it drift to the bottom end. A drift will also allow for a larger range of nutrients picked up. It should take a good day or two to drift a full pH point. If it's dropping within a few hours then I'm baffled. Some nutes raise and lower pH. I think calmag raises it, I know silica does but always add that first and obviously there is pH+ If plants ok don't stress but keep a close eye. If it is your measuring device and plants look fine you may unwittingly be altering pH from ok to not ok
