Flush bottom feed

I’m using an autopot (bottom feeding) system. They say not to flush because of the salt buildup. But is the “shock” of those salts bad or is it the salts staying in the bottom what is bad? In that case if you thoroughly flush (say 50+L in 20L pots) would that solve the problem?

Flushing through the tops of the pots will send high concentrations of potentially harmful salts straight back into the root zone. According to autopot if you use the system as intended then a salt layer accumulates towards the top. If your doing it by hand I figure you'd need to dump a few gallons of water in to get out the excess nutrient. Remember good old tap water is still filled with at least 400ppm of mineral salts too. Salt buildup will cause too high ec, pH will drift, causing the appearance of nute deficieny. 50 l sounds good.

in a bottom feeding setup the salts tend to buildup on the top of the pot vs the bottom, its in excess of salts that create a concentrated area that is bad for the roots. High EC. Normally watering with a bit of runoff each time prevents this from happening, but with a bottom feeding pot its not the same. So you will want to not feed them as heavily to avoid the buildup. I feel if you flush once going into flower from veg would be fine.

Yes of you run 2.5 that amount of the pot in water thru it that should wash out any kinda build up your worried about.
