March 28, 2023 Skywalker OG: Day 66 DLI: 45 at canopy. 72 at top. Final Height 38" Wedding Glue: Day 59 DLI: 40 Final Height: 15.5" This week is a major focus on taking care of the leaf issues with Skywalker OG. The light as before has been brought down to 60%. I also administered Advanced Nutrients Cal Mag Extra. 4 ml/gal. I've also dropped the tiger bloom back down to 5 ml/gal. The next option is to attempt to flush a living soil? That's absurd. Other than that, she is building super fat buds and I couldn't be happier... Well, I could be, but a pound of weed from one plant is asking a bit much. Lol. Anyway, her trichomes production is fantastic. She has so much resin that my hand got sticky just from a small accidental brush to one of the sugar leaves. Not even a bud. Very happy. She smells great too! As for Wedding Glue, she stopped growing at 15.5". A very much shorter plant than I was expecting, but I work with what I have. So the issue with her is the foliage. There is so much and it's covering everything under the very top. I'm guessing over time this won't be an issue? I'll ask the question. Other than that, she's still super thirsty, buds are getting bigger. Lots and lots of pistils. A little small, but not bad. I had a white widow that had tiny pistils and was almost all leaf. Was not a good turn out. So, I feel l should keep an eye on her. She also smells great! Not sticky that I can tell. Honestly, I handle very little of the plant as I can. Especially during flowering. I'm not seeing much in trichome production yet, but it's still really early in flower for her. I still feel like the abundance of bud sites will make up for it. Grow System Environment: Temp: 71.8° RH: 54.8% VPD: 1.18 kPa Update: Humidity is a bit of a struggle for the past few days. Hopefully it will break soon. Or I'm gonna need to get yet another dehumidifier. I'm also going to have to get sealed reservoirs like the AC Infinity ones. Update 2: I did some more research on trimming and I guess this is the best time. Right after she is done stretching. Up to week 3 as mentioned on the second Defoliation question. So much appreciated. I think my timing is right with the flowering week. But my concern is still the age of the plant. Anyway, I trimmed a bunch of the matured leaves with the purple stems. I left the new growth to fill in the holes... Not that there is any. She is still covered in foliage. But a lot of the bud sites are open now so she should be good. Like last time, she drooped a bit for a day and then was back to normal. She will be perfect and in 5 weeks, she will show it all. March 29, 2023 As expected, Wedding Glue took perfectly well to her defoliation. A little sad for the evening and perky as ever today. She's quite happy and I only had to take 3 more leaves off that I missed. Most of the bud sites are showing at least a bit. I'm guessing as the buds get bigger, they will start to overtake the leaves. If not, I can pop a leaf or 2 every once in a while if need be. She's stacking nicely and as she is so compact, she will fill up very quickly. Bud formation is as described so far. Ping pong ball shaped. I'm guessing that will be the overall size of the upper buds. For now, I'll be focusing on her water intake. Everything seems really good so far. Just have to keep an eye. Container is getting a little light as well. Skywalker OG is also doing quite well. She is packing on more and more weight. Today... To me... This plant is definitely filling out. Most of the lower buds are fat as well. There are a couple that are falling behind. No worries though. The rest make up for it. She's taking in a good amount of water still. Cal-Mag seems to be working? No clue how to tell, to be honest. All I know is that she is growing and looks good. Could she be better? Sure? I dunno. Anyway, it looks like the light burn has stopped at least. There hasn't been any more progress since I dropped the intensity. Either way, I think she's good now. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.8° RH: 53.2% VPD: 1.25 kPa March 30, 2023 So today we have a nicely watered Wedding Glue. She has started stacking over her canopy. Lots of tops and buds pushing through the foliage. Looks great! Perfect light intensity. She also got about a half liter top feed today. And filled up the reservoir as well. Skywalker OG is also doing quite well. More weight. And no changes in the leaves from yesterday. I think she is in the clear now. I noticed that the leaves are starting to get darker. I wonder if she's going to turn colors. Deep purple? That would be nice. She is a tiny bit light. I'll most likely give her another top feeding tomorrow. It's been nearly a week, so she may be due for one anyway. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.2° RH: 52.3% VPD: 1.30 kPa March 31, 2023 Not much going on with the ladies today. They are bud building. Skywalker OG is amazing. Super fat and heavy buds, great smell and everything! The buds are getting heavy enough to start putting a bit of stress on the branches. Noice! The only issue I see now is clawing at the top. It has to be something like a nitrogen toxicity. She should fix herself in a day or already has. She's still running around 50% soil moisture content, so I don't want to flood her and risk over watering so close to harvest. However, her reservoir was cut in half with plain water, so all the nutrients are minimal. When she dries out this feeding, I'll flush a little bit. Wedding Glue is looking lovely. Her tops are starting to get bigger and stacking very nicely. I don't know what she's going look like in the end, but so far she has the right shaped buds and created her own level canopy. Everything is perfect except her size. She small, but packed, and I mean packed, with bud sites and tops everywhere. As long as she gets those dense plump ping pong ball sized buds, we will see a great harvest. Oh, and her branches are super stiff, like an aged maple. TIGHT internodal spacing. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.0° RH: 50.6% VPD: 1.33 kPa Update: I decided to raise the light and increase the intensity by 10%. The DLI stayed nearly the same. My goal here is to give Wedding Glue a wider light spread which seems to have worked. I also feel like it's helping penetrate further around Skywalker OG on her lower branches. Hopefully this gets more light to places it just couldn't reach. Now the light distance is roughly 21" from Wedding Glue. Wider spread without loss of intensity. In theory, it should work much better. When Skywalker OG comes out of the tent for harvest, I'll be able to increase the intensity a bit more to get a DLI of around 48. I'll also be able to take Wedding Glue off the box and back to the floor. Very much satisfied... Until I'm not because of a screw up. Hahaha! April 1, 2023 More and more weight put on Skywalker OG. Very happy girl. She got about a liter of water in the top and a full reservoir. Looking great! I haven't seen any more rust spots. So that's good as well. I'd say about 2 weeks left. Wedding Glue is also looking great! More bud production and fattening up those stacks. She's getting more thirsty too. She'll be getting a watering this afternoon. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.4° RH: 54% VPD: 1.31 kPa April 2, 2023 Skywalker OG is looking fantastic. She is still suffering from light burn at the very top. I haven't seen anything else get worse anywhere on her. Buds are still growing fat and heavy. She also has an extremely strong scent of gas. Very nice and heady. Wedding Glue is also looking great! She is stacking like mad and has tons and tons of bud sites. I'd say another 4 weeks for her. Maybe 5. No complaints here. She will have better bud that way. The new watering kit I picked up is working wonders. 1 gallon instead of a half gallon. Sturdy as well. Also it's mostly a sealed system. The containers cover all the openings on the lid. Very nice. It's also a great help for the humidity issue I was running into over the past few days. So an excellent purchase. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74° RH: 53.7% VPD: 1.29 kPa Update: Wedding Glue got a lift of about 2.5". Just to get her a little closer to the light. I did end up dropping the intensity back down to 60% to try and not burn Skywalker OG anymore. Seems good so far. I have also increased the advanced nutrients for Wedding Glue from 4 ml to 6 ml. I'll be giving plain water to Skywalker OG starting the next watering. April 3, 2023 The end of this week and we have 2 beautiful ladies. Skywalker OG looks fantastic as always. She is still bulking up and happily, she hasn't started changing pistil color yet. Much more fattening time. Wedding Glue has plump buds and tons of pistils. I am a bit concerned with how bushy she is. I may have to remove more leaves. There's a whole lot overlapping. However, the air flow in the tent is excellent. And I haven't seen any moisture build up between leaves. But as I said, she is super bushy. She's also taking even more water. Grow System Environment: Temp: 71.1° RH: 51.2% VPD: 1.23 kPa

Best to get a light meter. Photone or tentbuddy. Not sure what works on what phone but look into a meter for sure . Tentbuddy gives u outlines for veg and flower along with a VPD Calculator. It's hard to just say "lift it 24in above" the light meter will get u in the best range.

Why is my Wedding Glue Auto so short? She's healthy as can be. The issue here is that she is in day 30 with zero signs of upward growth and only 5.5" tall. Can I fix this somehow? Huge leaves though. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Look at the diary to see.

She is growing slowly.. But, I can see she's only around pushing up her 5 or so set of nodes. She will get bigger. She's just slow going atm.. had the same thing with my lemon pie and took her ages to flip. She'll put on most of her height during pre flower. Idk her traits but she looks mainly indica with her big fat leafs. Indicas grow much lower and have more girt. Sativas grow higher that have less girt. But, sometimes plants especially autos are unpredictable. Wouldnt worry about it to much. Good growing

After much research, I couldn't find anything on how to properly handle a really short plant. Does anyone have a thought about this? Or how to induce extra stretch? This is for documentation and research for this particular grow situation. Please see week 5 entries. Thanks all!

No need for defol right now. You’re at a critical point you don’t want to hinder anything. You have a great even canopy. Let her be.

I'd say leave her be my guy. You need those leaves for photosynthesis. To make those nice beautiful flowers! Besides she doesn't really have an abundance of leaves from what I can see. I hope this helps.

I've always wondered this and never asked. Should all cannabis plants go through senescence? I only ask because I've only ever had 1 plant that went through it. Am I harvesting too early? Or does it even matter? These are autoflower grows.

If you're nailing the nutrition, don't do a pre-harvest flush, and the genetics don't support it, then there's a good chance you won't see senescence and there's nothing wrong with that. As long as you're happy with the trichomes on your grow, then no one can you tell it's the wrong time to harvest. There's a lot of debate about "flushing" and what it can or can't do for your plant (including a lot of recent research on this). Many top professional farms don't flush at all and as a result they see little to no senescence in their crop. That said, I always flush - probably due to habit and/or bro-science - and I do always see a "fade" as a result. I've no way or telling you if this actually improved the smoke or quality though. Latest research suggests that it doesn't really help, but that probably won't stop me doing it every harvest! 😂

I normally don't ask more than one question a week, but I believe I'm at a critical point with my wedding glue. She hasn't grown at all in the last 2 days at 14.5". I haven't defoliated yet because of stretch, but I think she's done. Should I defoliate or wait a few more days?

That is helpful @Prilyfe13. I think we can definitely narrow it down to two things - a lack of Calcium (which matches your description of brown dots progressively getting worse and becoming more blocky), and possible light burn. If the issue is only affecting the very top of the plant nearest the light, then I believe you may have hit the nail on the head with light burn. Looking at your photo dated 19th March, the issue wasn't present in it's current form then, but I can see the sides of the leaves starting to curl up. This is THE classic light burn symptom. It begins on the sides of the leaves (rather than the tips, like nutrient burn) and then progresses inwards. But, you've obviously described a classic calcium deficiency as well, as I said... so perhaps it's six of one and half-dozen of the other! When it comes to living soil, I am certainly no expert, but my understanding is that you don't generally need to add too much in the way of nutrients as this is mostly in the soil already. Hopefully someone with more experience than me in this field will be able to help you... That said, if you don't get any more expert advice, I would probably err on the side of caution and raise/dim the lights (as you have done) and then maybe incorporate some Cal-Mag into the next few feeds, just to be sure it's getting enough. I don't think I've ever seen calcium or magnesium toxicity myself, so if you're using the small recommended doses, I can't see that it would cause any harm even if it doesn't need it. RE: Fish shit - I don't think this is the cause. So long as you're only using the recommended dosages, it should be fine. RE: an equipment list - don't even get us started or it will never end lol. All you technically need is air, water, soil and the sun... that doesn't explain why my spare room looks like the inside of Area 51's weapons testing facility. 😂 PH and TDS/EC meters are great, but I managed to grow successfully for years without them - particularly growing in soil which is much more forgiving. Its the same with basically every growing accessory I own. The main thing, to me, is managing the growing environment: keeping humidity high in veg and low in flower, keeping temps in the ideal range in the day and at night, etc. Those are the hardest things to do as you might be fighting against building itself, weather and geography etc, which are not battles that can be easily won. In future, if you want to keep your plants smaller and spread out the canopy more to avoid light burn and increase the PPFD or what would otherwise be lower branches, I would recommend that you start practicing LST or SCROG'ing, but that's more a technique than an accessory - other than the plant ties you'll need to make LST'ing easy. 😁 Good luck!

Hi, I follow @LegacyMarketFarm here and on you tube. He indicated there should be final defoliation 3rd week after flowers start. This forces energy to all remaining bud sites. I did this with my plants to keep down any mold issues since I couldn't control humidity. .I will say, however, there are many different thoughts on the 3rd defoliation. Happy growing and have fun 👍

If this was my grow, I would be watering from the top since she's not taking it up from the wicking and is drying out.... the last thing you want is for your entire plant to turn crispy. Water until there's some runoff and then wait to see if the runoff is soaked back up into the pot - if it is, give more water until it stops soaking it back up and then throw away the excess... Good luck!

What do I do with this overly leafy plant? I'm pretty sure the foliage caused very airy buds and tops. What should I do here? Major defoliation before 48 hours of dark? Leave it, cut the branches off when harvested and run a dry trim or with this should I run wet trim? Thanks!

This plant is looking beautiful! I would not recommend to defoliate this late in the growing phase. Just make sure that there will be enough moving air around this plant to prevent fungals. The only advice that I can give to you for this plant is to cut down the nutrients a bit. You are giving too much. 75% from what you are giving now is more then enough till harvest.
