Should I prune or defoliate her more at the end of 2nd week of flowering to get better yelds and allow light to penetrate more?

Hi, I am currently at the end of the 2nd week of flowering. Strain is photoperiodic. Is there any chance of getting better yelds by pruning some irrelevant parts or defoliation? I have a feeling that current setup got too tight.. I think LST will not help much now, stretching now

100% for pruning cut all the branches to lowest intersection and u get a bunch of fat ones instead of many tinies

Rule of thumb: less is more. Any large leaf that receives some light contributes to your plant’s growth. Your main concern shouldn’t be light penetration but rather airflow. It’s usually easy to spot leaves covering others, but instead of cutting, try bending them aside. You can also tuck older leaves underneath younger ones to ensure every cola gets roughly the same amount of light. I’d suggest investing in a scrog net. It might be too late to apply it properly for this grow, but you could still position it near the top to help separate branches. For your next grow, definitely use one from the start. With a scrog net, you can easily fill the entire space in your tent, and you won’t have to worry nearly as much about leaf management. What helped me avoid over-defoliating was thinking of every healthy leaf I removed as a loss for the plant. That loss has to be justified by a clear reason for removal. Most of the time, I realized it’s better to leave the leaf where it is or gently bend it aside, sometimes tucking it under another leaf instead of cutting it. Keep in mind that during late flowering, a removed leaf won’t be replaced by new growth, it’s simply gone. So, think twice before removing any leaf that still looks healthy.

Yes, you can defoliate. But before that, I would try to tie the longest stems down to the sides. This way you can let the plant have more leaves for photosynthesis. If too much leaves bother you after that, you can still defoliate.

Yes, end of week 2 of flower is actually a good moment for a light defoliation and some lollipopping. I’d remove a few large fan leaves that block bud sites and the weak lower growth that won’t reach the canopy. Don’t go too aggressive though just improve light penetration and airflow, and the plant should focus more energy on the top buds.

https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/community/photons_corner/to-defoliate-or-not-to-defoliate/ Leaves are not sinks. Removing upper leaves does not increase photosynthetic potential. Part of how suger traverses the vascular tissue is due to concentration gradients - i.e. where it gets used the most has the greatest pull. Where sugars get used is based on apical dominance and not where the light hits. The sugars are highly mobile, so that is not an issue. You can shade a top cola and it will still be just as dense and substantial as all other top colas of equal stature/vertical height. seend it, done it, always consistently so. primary vs secondary+ branching matters too... Remove a leaf if you thnk it will cause condensation and therefore be a risk of mold or other infection. If you have a specific and real reason, pruning a leaf off is fine. You can rationalize 'better safe than sorry' in some contexts. Defoliation, as in systematically removing large portions of the foliage, will never help the plant under any normal circumstances. The contexts in which it might help are completely avoidable. Simlpy don't overcrowd the canopy and you will never have to remove a bunch of leaves. Leaves are incredibly important. One should not look for random reasons to remove them. It should be a rare need to remove more than 1 or 2 leaves at any point. pruning off suckers at the bottom will reduce larf, but probably also reduces yield, slightly. An easier trime and larger proportions of buds might be a good reason to do it... this is something that nees to be proven properly, though. i try to prune off axilla that i think will develop into larf, but if good resesarch shows it has virtually no impact, i'll adjust and evolve with that new knowledge. I don't think it improves my yield, though. Plus, you can do some cool stuff with the larf. Use that portion for bubble hash and it really won't impact yield of better buds unless it is an extreme amount. I'd argue it's probably better to err on the side of a could sets of lower branches producing less than ideal buds to ensure you don't cut off anything that would have produced proper buds. Just a hypothesis... something that would need to be tested no matter how good it sounds to the ear. Life is messy and it's easy to attribute cause to the wrong effect, especially when motivated to do so (inherent bias). Stick to 2-4 colas per sq ft and you should rarely have to remove a leaf and you wil get a decent amount of light penetration by default.

I WOULD JUST REMOVE A FEW LEAVES TO HELP WITH AIRFLOW FOR NOW DAT WILL HELP KEEP DA STRESS DOWN!!! DA END OF WEEK 3 IN FLOWER DATS WHEN I SUGGEST CLEANING HER OUT MORE!!! DIS CLEANING WOULD BE FOR ENHANCED LIGHT PENETRATION, AIRFLOW AND OPTIMIZED ENERGY USE FOR DA PLANT!!!

To get a better yield it’s more about directing the energy correctly and avoiding any waste into shaded shoots. The structure of your plant looks good from the top view. And you still have another week of stretch. The technic consists by pruning every first set of leaves and mini shoots from each shoots starting from the main stem. By doing so, it will clear the inner part of the plant and will avoid loosing energy into the first sets where you usually get fluffy popcorn.

Veg growth is about done now.Id remove some of those leaves now,you don;t want to do it any later.Get some direct light to those lower nodes. Not sure if its the training or lack of but its seriously crowded in there.Check out my shishkaberry for an example. The best way to fatten those flowers up is to add a booster for mid flower.Something like Big Bud.Make sure its got extra P and K in it and its not just stimulator like canna boost.

Your plant looking great, she happy. I would defoliate her, especially leaves that are blocking light to reach the bud sites on bottom part :) Would also ease airflow and would do your plant some good. Just make sure to not stress her by defoliating too much at once If you want to be sure not to stress her while defoliating, you can defoliate bit by bit everyday instead of doing all at once Hope this helps and good luck for the end of your grow 👍

I'd prune a couple of leaves which are facing inwards but nothing major. The plant has a good structure with good light penetration.
